Obama Gets Tougher, Appears to Address Dem Anxiety

The New York Times reports that Barack Obama, is beginning to hit back harder following what most consider to be a poor showing at the Saddleback Church forum, targeting McCain's definition of rich (as having over $5 million) and putting in contrast his own economic plan:

Obama"Mr. Obama, whose candidacy has been built in part on a promise to transcend traditional politics, is running the negative commercials on local stations even as he runs generally positive spots nationally, during prime-time coverage of the Olympics. The negative spots reflect the sharper tone Mr. Obama has struck in recent days on the stump as he heads into his party’s nominating convention in Denver next week, and seem to address the anxiety among some Democrats that Mr. Obama has not answered a volley of attacks by Mr. McCain with enough force. 'If you can go quietly negative, that’s what he’s done; I think the perception is that he’s still running the positive campaign,' said Evan Tracey, president of the Campaign Media Analysis Group of TNS Media Intelligence, which monitors political advertising. 'It’s a pretty smart, high-low, good cop/bad cop strategy.'"

One of Obama's recent appearances at an Albuquerque, New Mexico town hall and an ad that's running in local markets in battleground states, according to the Jed Report, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. I'm starting to think that Jason is just like the Jordan who used to post until it became clear that everything he said was a bunch of BS. That, or he's just insane.

And AnotherDemocraticIdiot needs to find a hobby and, preferably, another website on which to post comments.

That's the Democratic way, Paul R.! God bless your fear of difference and dissent. We all should clones in your world, eh?

  3. McCain doesn't need to move to the right. He's already there, and always has been. He just hasn't bought the crazy-talk of the Robertson's and the like, but he's never been anywhere near the center on any social issues.

  4. Let me get this straight, Las Vegas. We're not supposed to be concerned about McCain bragging that he has a 100% pro-life record or the Supreme Court he'd appoint as a 100% pro-life President, yet we are supposed to be concerned about Obama's abortion position even though he said, in front of a pro-life leaning audience, that he's pro-choice. Hmmm . . .

While I am concerned about Obama's tilts toward the right--as are many Democrats, McCain is already ON the right and snuggling up to the fundie zealots (who, by the way, still hate us) more each day. So being more concerned about Obama than about McCain simply makes no sense unless you share McCain's right-wing views or believe a continuation of the Bush presidency is a good idea.

  5. Like I've said before...I know where McCain stands...Obama is far far less clear on several issues. I personally would rather do battle with the monster in front of me than one that's over hill and we're not too sure about.

You should be concerned about Obama's tilt to ther ight it should concern all the Democrats because he Obama is NOT the nominee yet. The Democrats still have a chance to get the White House but Obama will not be the person to do it. Even now the polls are showing Obama ahead but by a far less lead than he was two months ago.

The emtionalism of Barak Obama is wearing off and the reality of what and who he is starting to show and alot of people are saying wait a minute about this guy. I certainly hope the Democrats wake up and smell what this guy has been shoveling.

Certainly I would welcome another Democratic candidate over this guy.

Oh please. You pulled that line out of your ass so easily you must still be lubed up.

Not buying it, not for one bit. I'm not an Obama supporter because I think he's the messiah, or because I think he'll magically solve all of our problems, or because I have a crush on him, or because I hate Hillary.

I'm an Obama supporter because I've read what he has to say about every issue I care about, and I agree with him a lot more than I do with McCain, and one of the two of them is going to be the next President. Simple as that.

  7. Sad thing is O has the sharp nails to handle the republicans but someone has advised him to cool it. And he's listening. Don't believe me? His first big election was won because he had all the competitors taken off the ballot through legal shit. This included his mentor who had backed his career up until that point. He can roll in the mud like any Chitown pol has to. Btw, the election where he actually had an opponent was Alan Keyes who was brought in at the last minute. Alan Keyes! He ate him alive. He managed to turn Bill Clinton into a racist! He's got the claws, where are they? I can't stand him but since he's the Dem nominee I want to see some balls! I don't want to sit back for yet another John Kerry wimpout. We lost in 2000 because we didn't fight as nasty as the Bushies. They took our lunch, chewed it and made us swallow it. Please, O, don't let that shit happen again! Man up bitch!

  8. Oh, now I get it! "Another Democratic candidate" is going to ride in on her white horse and save us from the dark monster "over hill" that is Obama. Thanks for the clarification. Vegas is where fantasy almost seems like reality, after all. I'd have welcomed Hillary if she were the nominee, but she isn't. She lost. McCain's clarity on the issues (McCain's clarity, period) is also a myth, and the issues he's most clear on are the issues he's most wrong on. But, hey, we know for absolute certain that he sucks on gay rights, so that's reassuring.

  9. I'm confused. Why is anyone paying attention to "anotherdemocraticidiot"? After reading two of his posts, it was easy to tell he's a racist troll out to help the GOP. To argue with him is like trying to argue a 5 year-old out of temper tantrum -- it doesn't work and only brings about more tantrums and ludicrous behavior.

Just for the record, I'm not crazy about Obama. His attitudes about capital punishment and gay rights turn me off on him. BUT ANYONE is better than McCain, right now, so I'll vote for Obama in November. I prefer America be given a chance to rebuild her reputation and economy, and end this trek down a path to complete ruin.
