Rearview Mirror: Looking Back on Towleroad at the DNC

Trm132

Last week Towleroad was at the Democratic National Convention in Denver as one of two LGBT credentialed blogs (something we received some flak for). While the week was hectic and two people can only cover so much, I hope that Corey Johnson and I were able to provide some interesting LGBT-related content and interviews with folks at the convention you might not have seen in the mainstream press. Here are some of the highlights:

EXCLUSIVE TOWLEROAD VIDEO COVERAGE:

On a related note, Corey is now Towleroad's Political Director and we'll likely be producing more online video content in the weeks to come with folks inside the political spectrum. I'd like to personally thank Corey for the fantastic job he did in helping Towleroad cover this Convention.

I also want to give a big thanks to Kenneth Walsh from Kenneth in the 212 for providing alternate coverage and news while I was away. I encourage you to give his site a visit.

As an additional note, Towleroad may be taking an extended Labor Day break. We'll see you next week at some point.

  1. Great work, guys. My boss and one of my professors both commented on how much I was in the know on the convention action, and it was mainly due to the both of you.

    Have a good break.

And does anyone else notice that Sarah Palin looks a bit like Susan Lucci as "naughty librarian"?

  2. Palin's unmarried 17 year old daughter is pregnant. McCain has picked Lynne Spears as a running mate! ROTFLMAO!

  3. Corey please. Nuff said.

  4. Like Jimmyboyo, I'm guessing there might be a ticket shake-up with the words "family time" used in the not too distant future. Oops. Vetter better next time. Politically, the storm may actually be helping the Republicans, which is a sad and scary thought.

  5. By "storm" I mean the literal one in NO, not the storm of scandal surrounding Palin. The latter ain't helping them.

  6. Andy, you're hot. And I love your blog.

  7. This was the first DNC that i actually felt like i was somehow even remotely represented.

That is due to this site and the ones it links to. The Democratic party is slowly becoming the party of inclusion. The process may not be as quick as many would like. Change when it comes should only be judged by slow real progress to insure that the minoritys views cam be incorperated in to the majority's platform. Thoes who demand change overnight are not realistically looking at the issues. They also can do harm to the greater cause that will in time address their issues.
Were looking at positions, laws and opinions that are as old as humanity its self. Change can only come when we change hearts and minds of the majority politely and peacefully without name calling. I listen to even the biggest backwards conservative to the point they resort to name calling and bigotry. So often the Gay and Lesbian community turns on its self and does the same thing we are asking the majority to change.

Deliver you message and continue to mold you site Andy. Many new will arrive others will leave and in the end you will go into the next phase of the site with an audience that believes in your mission. Then when you go out on a mission you know you have the support of of a loyal audience behind you. With that we can change Beliefs and opinions. You just did it with the Democrats, with the opposition of the largest church that has controlled political positions for thousands of years. While being respectful of there church it is nice to see them squirm on the road to forgiveness and equality Jesus taught but they ignore.
    Its all in the Timing.

  9. I'd like to say Kenneth's guest blogging was just fine. I don't know where all those complaints are coming from. GJ on convention coverage.
