  1. This guy, while very hot, hardly looks Thai.

When I think about all that we hear and say here in the US about the models not conveying an accurate representation of the population, it really makes you wonder about things like this.

  2. He isn't Thai, he's English. He won The X Factor in 2005, which is basically the main "Idol"-style show in Britain nowadays (the winner the following year was Leona Lewis).

  3. It's good to know that closeted men in Thailand have the same resources to masturbate to as closeted men in the US.

  4. Thank you, CHRIS. I didn't really mean that I was questioning if he was or was not Thai. Clearly he is not.

I was more making a commentary on how as a melting-pot nation, we have people of all races (though not necessarily in proportion) on our magazine covers. I have always been fascinated by countries like Thailand (and Japan, etc) that are for the vast majority homogeneous with people covering their magazines from an ethnicity not reflected in their population.

I remember setting unreal body expectations for myself when seeing the Marky Mark CK ads when I was a young teenager, and I can only imagine if I lived in a country where the ideal was presented as being of an entirely different race. What message does that send to the Thai people?

  5. Holy mother of Buddha, chest and stomach hair on the cover of Men's Health? Oh wait, it the Thai version showing a gringo. WTF?

  6. It's interesting to read that the Marky Mark CK campaign could case "body issues" but it isn't surprising. Imagine how it is for young woman who are bombarded with "thin is in". It is much easier to muscle-up than it is to "thin-it-down". The bad side to the "muscle-up" is if someone gets caught up in the 'roids thing. All I remember about the Marky Mark ads is that they were hot, he was hot, and that he (then) was a street-kid with a homophobic attitude. I have an old Interview mag with him holding his crotch in a pair of CKs. I think that edition sold out. Anyway, I hope, Dan B, that you didn't have any lasting negative feelings from all that.

  9. These pics don't do him justice. Check out some of his videos on youtube. Specifically "Breathless." I picked up his CD when i was in London last spring, and it's really good. It's a shame he hasn't been marketed here in the US.

  10. Yea, born in Manchester but both his parents are Irish, so English he ain't - but you could say British. Bit like Dusty (Mary O'Brien) Springfield, now there was class. Don't you in the US use the term Black Irish to describe the type?
