Sarah Palin Can't Name One News Source That Shaped Her Views

This is beyond astonishing.

Palinnewssource_2Katie Couric asks Alaska Governor Sarah Palin what news sources she read in order to shape her 'world view' before being tapped to be McCain's running mate.

PALIN: "I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media."

COURIC: "What ones, specifically, I'm curious?"

PALIN: "Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years."

COURIC: "Can you name a few?"

PALIN: "I have a vast variety of source where we get our news. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where it's kind of suggested, 'wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America."

  1. I nearly flew at the TV when she said "choice." Oh, please, please, please let Obama win. PS. Thanks for the great election coverage Andy.

  2. Damn this has been a great night for her interview wise. First the Biden remarks and now this. Thursday just keeps looking more exciting.

  3. Some have wondered that with all the gaffes and fuckups that Palin and McCain have made over the past 2 weeks why the Obama/Biden ticket hasn't pulled ahead farther in the polls.

This is due to two main reasons:

    - racism
    - the common American really do not care right now and are not paying attention.

When I go to the gym (where each machine has it's own TV monitor and a multitude of plasma screens abound) only a couple are tuned in to news shows; the majority are tuned in to ESPN or other sports channels, or either "America's Next Top Model", "Family Guy", or the Cartoon Channel.

    Unless current events DIRECTLY affects:

    - sports, especially the Cubs or Sox here in Chicago
    - their drinking habits
    - their sex life

they really, really, REALLY don't care!

The general public will not pay attention until the week before elections, and even then - maybe they'll care.

Only then we can more trust the polls numbers.

    Don't panic girls...until then - GO OBAMA/BIDEN!!!

  4. Wow. It's nice to know that I'm significantly better informed than the woman that could potentially be the president of the USA. Lovely. Brilliant. If McCain wins, we're fucked.

  5. "All of them, Katie, are you deaf? I read EVERY SINGLE ENGLISH-LANGUAGE MAGAZINE PRINTED (except for Hunting Heaven because they are just too liberal they way they editorialize on the Polar Bear issue; you know, trashy "gotcha journalism", like what you and Charlie Gibson are so good at.) and also some ones in Mexican and Russian. In fact, Putin delivers me a copy of TIM3 Magazine every week on his way to invade Canada and we read it together, laughing at the stupid liberals trying to uphold free speech, such as."

  6. And...get this...she was a f**king JOURNALISM major in college. Biden had better take off the kid gloves and smack her good Thursday night.

    Holy crap.

  7. if palin is representative of america, and if alaska is a microcosm of america, it means that people don't read, people don't know much of the supreme court, and america is practically devoid of minorities.

good gawd, we are in mortal danger.

  8. Does anyone else think that McCain/Palin have tapped Miss South Carolina Teen to be her speaking advisor?

    Posted by: uflyguy | Sep 30, 2008 10:47:08 PM

  9. The McCain staff just released the actual magazines she reads:

    Moose & Caribou
Drill - published by the Alaska Oil companies
    Pentecostal Pennysaver
    Snowmobiler
Igloo & Tundra - House & Garden of the North
    Pravda - Regional Edition
    Creationism Today
    Bride's (for Bristol)

  10. How hard is it to say "Us Weekly?" Jeez.

  11. See you sometime way, way after the election Towle. Between this site, Radar, Gawker, HuffPo, Jezebel, Wonkette, etc., I can read this crap anywhere, no matter how true it is. But it is certainly not gay news.

    Posted by: BoHan | Sep 30, 2008 11:31:55 PM

  12. Oh come on, Sarah. Everyone knows you read the "Weekly World News."

And you go Caribou hunting with interplanetary aliens.

  13. This is the dumbing down of our governance, and most Americans are so numb at this point that they are not outraged. This woman is an fucking embarrassment.

    GR8GUYCA --- very funny --- hysterical.

BOHAN --- you're dead wrong. This mental midget, this Barbie gone bad would be very dangerous for gay America. She would validate every prejudice, every condescending notion about homosexuality that pervades the underbelly of our society. And, with a wingnut like this anywhere near (and possibly occupying) the Oval Office, with her secessionist husband, it could be disastrous. We should be exposing every bit of news about her --- she is very, very dangerous.

Thankfully, along with the economic meltdown, I think she is bringing down the Republican ticket.

  14. Gotcha!

  15. This is what the whole world is watching...and I can guarantee you that the world is wondering if Americans are really intelligent. November 4th will give the world the correct answer...after all of this nonsense ...are Americans going to make the same mistakes?

  16. Just a reminder, the Diebolds will have to cooperate as well.

Come to think of it, it is pathetic that they resort to these kinds of shenanigans to ensure their winning an election. In their hearts, there is no fairness. Of course, we and the rest of the world suffer the consequences.

    Posted by: Jason87 | Oct 1, 2008 2:36:22 AM

  17. @ FAB,

you're so right. We are watching, and hoping, and crossing every finger and every toe. Restore our faith. And before anyone says, "why should you care" or "keep out of our politics" - all I'll say is while America wishes to remain the 'leader of the free world' and the 'moral compass' of the world - WE ALL deserve an opinion - if not a vote - in an election that, like any US election, will effect the entire course of history - more now than ever.

  18. Just watch Couric's face. She can't believe the drivel coming out of Palin's mouth. I ♥ Katie Couric.

  21. The problem is that people don't care if she knows anything about foreign policy or geography.

Most americans can't put france or italy on a map , why would they care if SHE can.
They don't have a clue about what 's going on in the world , she doesn't too. She's perfect for them.

They want somebody who think like them , somebody at their level..And they got it .
It won't come as a surprise to me when Mc Cain and the Queen of hearts from Alice in wonderland will win this election.

She said she thinks being gay is a choice. We know it's not true ..But all the voters going to church 5 times a week think it is . She's backing up their ideas of what they think is right or wrong ..And they love it, they can't get enough of her.
Ask people in the streets of some dumb place in US if they would close their library or ban books if they could and they 'll tell you : Yes .
Those are the real voters ...

  22. Katie Couric is becoming a new hero of mine...

I do have to agree with Taz38, though. I think this woman appeals to a lot of people. And that scares me.

    Posted by: lis | Oct 1, 2008 9:41:58 AM

  23. Give her a break people. She reads the ones that are "in front of her." We can narrow that down as soon as we investigate every place she's ever been in her life.

    Posted by: David T | Oct 1, 2008 9:44:13 AM

  24. When did being uneducated and ill-informed become "real"? Why do people want to elect someone they can have a beer with rather than someone who can carry on an intelligent conversation? Why do people become uncomfortable and suspicious around someone who is smart? How did this happen?

It's not simply that Palin isn't an intellectual, it's that she's not even intellectually curious. I get no sense that she thinks in terms of history or broad policy outlines. I think that she couldn't name magazines and newspapers anymore than she could name books that have influenced her. This isn't how her brain works. (I would say that her mind is like mush, but that would sound like a dogsledding joke.)

She would probably respond, as she did to the question about not having a passport, that she has had to work all her life and that she has had to raise 5 kids. But Nancy Pelosi also has 5 kids, so that excuse doesn't seem to hold up.

It's gotten to a point that Obama can't say that he was head of the Harvard Law Review. It wasn't even mentioned in his bio video at the Democratic Convention. Just think of the reaction from the masses: Harvard (strike one), Law School (strike two), and head of Law Review (strike three.) And let's not even bring up that he was the first African-American to hold that position.

The Founding Fathers - Jefferson, Franklin especially - were highly educated. Lincoln, both Roosevelts, Truman, and Clinton were all highly intelligent. Shouldn't we be expecting that from our leaders? Instead of having them kiss babies and shake hands, perhaps we should require that our leaders take SAT tests. And, next to their age, let's put their IQ.

    We deserve better.
