Bill and Hillary Clinton Campaign with Joe Biden in Scranton, PA

Bill and Hillary Clinton campaigned with Joe and Jill Biden in Scranton, Pennsylvania over the weekend. The former President introduced Hillary, who spoke at length.
Said Hillary: "This election is too important to sit on the sidelines of history. I haven't spent 35 years in the trenches fighting for universal health care, for children, for families, for women, for middle class people, to see another Republican in the White House squander the promise of our nation and the hopes of our people...We are in a financial crisis in America, and it is a crisis born and bred by failed Republican policies championed by George Bush, John McCain and the Washington Republicans...It took a Democratic president to clean up after the last President Bush, it's going to take a Democratic president to clean up after this President Bush. Make no mistake about it. We've done it before and we'll do it again. America will once again rise from the ashes of the Bushes."
Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

Everybody needs to remember that the Clintons are racist and will do anything to win including murder! Weren't those the Obama supporters talking points in the primaries? But now? Oh, I see, as long as you stump for Obama, you can overcome your racism. Too bad nobody listened as Hillary talked about the economy day after day. It sure wqould be easier to vote for someone with a grip on the economic issues and healthcare than the same old shit. I noticed that Biden was quick to answer marriage is between a man and a woman only in his debate. Obama's Gospel Tour? Obama's Faith Tour? Just what does he stand up for? Somebody tell me. You're gonna be shocked when his AA supporters turn out in droves to vote for him and also vote against gay rights issues in mass. The AA community has never historically supported gay and lesbian causes.

Hillary, I so heart you.

Thank you, Glenn, for that racist perspective.
Hillary's been pretty good about supporting Obama since her crushing defeat. Now it looks like Obama's stratospheric poll numbers have finally convinced Bubba to put his ego aside and bravely (ha!) back the winner.

Biden and the Clintons deserve each other.

Ah, nothing like bitterness and a touch of racism to start off a new week! The primaries are long over, Glenn--face it. Obama would be supporting Hillary now, but she lost. I, like huge numbers of other people in this country, know what Obama stands up for. He's made it clear and, like the Clintons, we support his candidacy. It is the most important presidential campaign of my lifetime, with issues too important to dwell inside past negativity crap. As for the "AA community," they have the right to their vote, whether it's for or against my causes. But the hateful voices on TV these past weeks have almost exclusively come from white people, including the white people at the top of the Republican ticket. They're the ones I'm worried about.

I think Glenn is way off on a lot of things, but he is not entirely incorrect that as much as we want Obama to be President from a GLBT perspective, his being on the ballot is most likely going to hurt rather than help the gay marriage cause in places like California. The African American community does not support gay marriage and they will be out in droves blindly voting for Obama. And I guess they don't have to second guess their vote for Proposition 8 in California because Obama himself has stated he does not support gay marriage. SO, while Obama might be on the right side of the issue when it comes to hate crimes legislation and employment non-discrimination legislation, why isn't he asking Californians who are voting for him to vote against Proposition 8? Do people not understand the ramifications if that passes in California? It will take decades to reverse the damage it will cause to the getting us to marriage equality in one of the very bluest states there is. If it passes, it will be probably the worst byproduct of an Obama Presidency. And yet every gay person I know will be too busy rejoicing that Obama won to notice.

In sum, we should be calling on the Obama campaign to condemn Proposition 8 and asking that anyone who votes for him in California vote NO on Proposition 8. We cannot keep accepting this half ass attempt by Democrats to walk the line anymore. He is going to win, there are like three weeks left, he should be using this opportunity to show his true colors and stand up for us in California. If he doesn't, then he's no better than the Clintons have been to us.

"The African American community does not support gay marriage and they will be out in droves blindly voting for Obama."—Jean Luc
Thanks, Jean Luc, for that booster shot of unbridled racism!
Posted by: 24play | Oct 13, 2008 12:25:12 PM
JeanLuc is not only a racist, though I am impressed by the idea that the African American community will be "out in droves blindly voting for Obama," while he presumably will be..., what? voting knowledgeably in his wisdom for another candidate?
The idea that Obama supports Prop. 8 is just a lie. He came out in July against it:
In a letter to the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club read Sunday at the group's annual Pride Breakfast in San Francisco, the Illinois senator said he supports extending "fully equal rights and benefits to same-sex couples under both state and federal law."
"And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states," Obama wrote.
Of course it would be nice to have a targeted ad from him against 8... but that would also be fodder for the right in other states. It seems to me all this panic about the black vote working against Prop 8 is about as reliable as the fear about same-sex marriage losing us the election of 2004. Mirror image, and meant to divide us when we're really united. Fact: Our candidate, who is black, is also against Prop. 8. Take that, Republican trolls!

Huge props to Hillary for coming through with her support. She promised, and now she delivers.
Posted by: AG | Oct 13, 2008 12:59:21 PM
Actually, there was another post on Towleroad a few weeks back that dealt with the issue of AAs and Prop 8. A poster basically disproved the idea that blacks vote for anti-gay laws more than any other group. I wish I knew what the title of the post was...
anyone remember?

96% of African Americans are voting for Obama. Sounds like blindly voting for the black guy to me. And when Proposition 8 passes in CA and gays lose their shot at marriage equality there for decades, try taking a break from celebrating Obama's victory long enough to feel bad about it.
African Americans, in relations to other democratic-leaning demographics, support gay marriage far less than white, hispanics or obviously gays. And they are voting for Obama at 96%. If you think that is not going to HURT the vote in CA on Proposition 8, you're blind.
It isn't racist to point out that African Americans strongly support Barack Obama and at historically higher percentages than they have ever supported another Democratic candidate. It isn't racist, it's just the truth. I mean the gays are doing the same thing...blindly voting overwhelmingly for the Democrat who is okay with letting his CA supporters vote down gay marriage equality while they cheer him on.
At this point I'm not even sure I'll bother voting. I would never vote for McCain but I'm getting pretty tired of having to choose someone who finds it's politically expedient to pander to me while his fellow supporters happily legislate to keep me a second class citizen.
I mean at some point calling someone racist is going to lose all meaning when Obama supporters do it at the drop of a hate every time someone doesn't bow down to the Messiah.

But Jeanluc, when you keep saying something that's factually wrong because of some kind of prejudice, you might be a bigot.
I don't understand why bigots don't own their bigotry.
Posted by: Nick | Oct 13, 2008 1:56:38 PM
Oh noooooooooooooes! What if all Jean Luc's fellow racists decide not to vote?!
That would be terrible!
Posted by: 24play | Oct 13, 2008 2:03:01 PM
Jeanluc:
Remind me again, in the other states where anti-gay marriage amendments were passed was there a huge turnout by AA that voted for those ballots measures? The answer would be no. All this hyperventilation against AA voting in huge percentages for Obama and possibly for Prop. 8 is bullshit. Unless you can provide statistical evidence that AA vote in greater percentages than whites for these anti-gay measures then I suggest you put down the crack pipe. It's amazing how some posters on this site continue to overwhelmingly blame the AA community for anti-gay measures that certainly aren't started or funded by the AA community.

SUGARRHILL,
do you remember that post from a few weeks ago where the comment section turned to AAs and Prop 8?

I have grown to like Biden as VP but a part of me hopes that during the next 8 yrs he retires due to age and Obama replaces him with Hillary as VP. She then goes on to 8 yrs of her own successful administration carrying on 16 straight years of democratic control of america

Jason (A):
I don't remember the post, but I do remember the comment. Yet again the racist tendancies of some commentors comes out. It always baffles me why they tend to blame the AA community more than any other community for the homophobic climate in this country. The AA community didn't initiate Prop 8. nor have they been funding it. Look elsewhere for your scapegoats.

"96% of African Americans are voting for Obama. Sounds like blindly voting for the black guy to me."
However much you deny it, JeanLuc (or should I call you the white guy?), that is a racist statement. What makes you think that black people are BLINDLY voting for Obama? Why can't you assume they're voting for Obama for perfectly sound reasons? Given the race-baiting tactics of the McCain campaign, not to mention their backward policies that would adversely affect most AA's, voting for McCain would be the blind choice. Obama does not support Prop 8. While it can be argued that he could do more to help defeat it, neither he nor AA voters are the ones who are pushing for and pouring $ into its passage: those would be white McCain supporters.
P.S. The way anti-Obama commentators use the term "gays" on here, you'd almost suspect they weren't themselves gay. Hmmm . . . strange, that.

And don't forget all those negro Mormons ponying up tens of millions of dollars to pay for all those Yes on 8 ads.
Yes, if Prop 8 passes it'll definitely be because African Americans in CA sold out us poor, disenfranchised white fags. That's why!
