Georgetown Med Student Assaulted in Anti-Gay Hate Crime

Two suspects are in custody after assaulting two men near the Georgetown University campus over the weekend, The Hoya reports:

Georgetown"While walking along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal path by the 1100 block of 34th Street, the victim, who wished to remain anonymous, and his friend were approached by two unknown males of Middle Eastern descent in their 20s, as described by the MPD report. It stated that the suspects then asked both of them about their sexual orientation, and the victim replied that he was gay. According to the report, the victims were called 'fucking faggots' and 'fucked up' and were told by the suspects 'that [the victims] would be stoned in their country of origin.' These statements were followed by a series of other homophobic comments, the report states. Following the verbal abuse, one suspect began urging the other suspect to hit the victims with a glass vodka bottle, the report states, leading the suspect to hit the complainant on the left cheek with the bottle. The victim was knocked unconscious from the blow."

The university has sent out an email regarding the assault, which police are treating as a bias-reelated assault with a deadly weapon and a hate crime.

  1. Damn it! That these unprovoked assaults keep occurring. Fight back my brethren! If you stand up to these bullies they inevitably back away. When approached tell them to fuck off and return to their hellhole countries, and, more importantly, back it up with an aggressive posture of clenched fists. Two of you and two of them, DO NOT BACK DOWN.

  2. "and were told by the suspects 'that [the victims] would be stoned in their country of origin"

Uh oh. The threat level has shifted from "Girl, hold my gold" to "It's on".

That's gotta do a lot for islamic relations. Nice going, dickheads. Welcome to America.

  3. It seems that every week there is something like this happening in DC. I was assaulted in the middle of August around 14th and P. Some weeks later, more assaults happening in Adams Morgan. A week later, more assaults. Another week, someone dying down the street from my house while on his way to BeBar. It's scary business. I know this is happening all over the place, but for me living in DC, it seems to be a weekly thing. So very sad.

  4. I actually went to Georgetown Medical school, and all I can say is that I hope the place has grown up a bit in the last few years. I'm sure there will be lots of Jesuit hand-wringing and proclamations about how much "we deplore violence," but I am doubtful there will be any support for this kid beyond that. I remember being given one day off when my daughter was miscarried, and being informed I would have to repeat the entire three month surgery rotation if I took off any more than that. I remember not one professor asking how I was doing for 5 months after pleading with the academic board for a chance to do more electives in the same city with my partner of nine years as they had in years past for other couples (they turned me down).

Don't get me wrong. They didn't owe me any of those things. They owed me an education, nothing more, and I knew I was going to a Catholic school when I signed up. I got through it all without their help, and I don't think they abused me. They just didn't help me, and they weren't particularly sympathetic people. For this kid's sake, I hope things have changed a little.

  5. Puhleez. This is just like those Nike and Snickers commercials -- a big brouhaha over nothing. Let's take off our PC lenses and look at the evidence objectively:

    1. The suspect asked the victim what his sexual orientation was.
    2. The victim said he was gay.
    3. The suspect hit the victim in the face with a Vodka bottle.

How on Earth do you draw the conclusion that this is a hate crime? Correlation is not causation. Would it have made any difference if the victim had said he was straight, or bi-curious, or asexual? We'll never know for sure. But one thing I'm sure of: You guys are a bunch of PC lemmings and have just thrown yourselves off another cliff.

  6. Well, PC, be sure to tell me your orientation through sputtered sobs and shattered teeth as I cave your face in with a rock. If you pick the right answer I might stop.

  8. "...and were told by the suspects 'that [the victims] would be stoned in their country of origin.'"

I think that statement shows a special hate for a particular victim, PC POLICE.

  9. I wish one of them would have had a gun. If one of them did, he should have used it and blown both of them away. I definitely think glbt community needs to start fighting back. Also time to stop focusing so much on marriage and start focusing on fighting the growing influence of the religious extremist in our country and the immigration of extremist to America from other countries. Why the fuck are we allowing these Slavic/etc. hatemongers to enter our country? The more minds we change just get replaced with these hatemongers who left a violent intolerant country for a safer place but still have the mentality of their old country. Ugh.
