Jerry Lewis Still Loves 'Fag' Jokes
Remember last year, when Jerry Lewis pointed out the "illiterate fag" in his telethon audience and then issued a public apology for it?
I guess he wasn't sorry enough to not do it again.
Same Same reports on a press conference he held earlier today in Sydney:
"While speaking with a journalist from Channel Ten News, Lewis was asked 'What do you think of cricket?' His response was, 'Oh cricket is a fag’s game!' Lewis then proceeded to flounce about, using camp, effeminate gestures, pretending to hold a bat with a limp wrist, squealing in a high pitched voice 'Ah! The ball is coming towards me!' He may have intended for it to be amusing, but not everyone is laughing."
Jerry Lewis Still Thinks You're A Fag [same same]
Lewis has done lots of charity work and helped many people with disabilities live better lives. But frankly... with the faegele jokes... are we in the Catskills? What the hell? He rightly deserves criticism for this, though I'm reserving the nuclear flame option for more virulent strains of homophobia. But what I really feel here is pity. I've never thought he was funny at all, and now, in the twilight of his life, his 1950s era homophobia is even less funny.

Who really gives a shit what Jerry Lewis thinks of me? I mean, seriously. He’s a relic. Look at the picture of him. He’s a corpse. Does anyone seriously believe this man has any sort of relevance in the world anymore? For that matter, did he ever?

I wonder if he has ever actually played cricket? I can assure all your US readers that there is nothing "limp wristed" about a solid leather ball heading towards you when it has been properly bowled. I would also suggest that Mr Lewis does not visit a quite large part of the world where the merits of cricket are understood more fully...

The big difference I think is that I don't believe Jerry has malice when he does these things. He's old and grew up this way. It's hard to snap oneself out of old habits. Does that make it right, no... but it is an explanation and as someone above mentioned, let's reserve the nuclear option for those more deserving.

As sad and pathetic as Lewis' comments are, I find it hard to get worked up about this. Coming from a man who's only claim to fame in the past 40 years is an annual telethon that's raised over a billion dollars for disabled kids...
It's a bit like hearing my grandma who grew up in the 20's refer to 'colored people'. There was no real malice in it and, at her age, was making a fuss going to serve any real purpose?

Hm, I don't really care what era he grew up in, what he said is simply unacceptable... my dad was born in fucking 1931, doesn't listen to any music made after Elvis, and I have NEVER heard him say anything homophobic, or racist for that matter. Just because someone's old doesn't mean we have to defend their inappropriate behavior.
