'No on Prop 8' and Florida 'No on 2' Sites Under Coordinated Attack
The "No on Prop 8" website (and possibly Florida's "No on 2" site) was the victim of a coordinated denial-of-service attack at the height of fundraising efforts to defeat the anti-gay marriage ballot measure.
The campaign reports: "Today the NO on Prop 8 campaign’s Web site (http://www.noonprop8.com/) was the victim of what appears to be a coordinated attack designed to bring the system down. According to http://www.calitics.com/, the denial-of-service attack (DoS) on the NO on Prop 8 website occurred before 11:30pm, Wednesday, October 29th and coincides with a similar attack on Florida’s NO on 2 campaign, the Constitutional Amendment Against Marriage Equality. According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, in a denial-of-service (DoS) attack, an attacker attempts to prevent legitimate users from accessing information or services. By targeting a computer and its network connection, or the computers and network of the sites, an attacker may be able to prevent someone from accessing email, web sites, online accounts (banking, etc.), or other services that rely on the affected computer. The most common and obvious type of DoS attack occurs when an attacker 'floods' a network with information."
As I mentioned yesterday, the "No on Prop 8" campaign is in DESPERATE NEED of $3 million in funds due to a last-minute surge of funding from the opposition.
DONATE HERE and help win this battle.
Also, tonight at midnight is the last night that Florida Red & Blue, the organization behind the battle against Amendment 2, which would ban same-sex marriage in Florida, can accept funding. They report that they need funds as well.

I find it interesting that it's nearly always progressive Web sites and campaign HQ phone systems that are subject to this kind of attack.

Thanks for keeping us updated, Andy! I logged on and donated $500 which brings to $7,000.00 my total contributions to No on Prop 8 . I hope every towleroad reader will log on today and donate, even if it's only $10 or $20.
For those of you who aren't here in Los Angeles or San Francisco, for the past few days, No on 8 volunteers have been gathering at intersections in areas with a high percentage of gay people. The idea is to remind people that the correct vote is 'No' because there is still lots of confusion about what 'No' means and what 'Yes' means. I've been standing with a bunch of other No on 8 volunteers holding giant 'No on Prop 8' signs at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and San Vicente Boulevard from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. I mention the location because it's a fairly major artery through the city and gets a wide variety to people driving by. You can't believe the number of people blowing their horns in support of us and giving us thumbs up! It is the rare person who gives a thumbs down. The reaction makes me believe we just might win this ridiculous battle!
For any naysayers who say "Well, you're in West Hollywood. Of course people are going to be supportive.", let me tell you about the opposite side of the coin. Last weekend, I was in Huntington Beach, a very conservative area of Southern California, at a Yes on Proposition 8 rally. I went there with friends as counter demonstrators. We held up signs saying 'No on 8'. Even in Huntington Beach, in the midst of conservative-land, in the center of a Yes on 8 rally, we had people driving by in cars shouting "No on 8!", giving thumbs down to the Yes on 8 crowd, or walking up to us on the sidewalk to voice their support.
This thing is winnable for us if we all pitch in! Even if you don't live in California, if the No on 8 campaign wins, it will be a win for every GLBT person in the U.S.! Please, please, please follow Andy's link to the No on 8 site and donate as much as you can to fight these lunatics who are trying to take away our rights!

I know that progression has been made, but evolution is coming slower than I thought. Yet in 10 or 20 years, this issue will be resolved once and for all. Evolution will eventually take over and ensure that everybody has the freedom to marry whoever they want.
