It will help us attract good people. Benefits are an important package if you're going to work for government, and this will help us compete with other government agencies,' Orlando City Commissioner Patty Sheehan said."

Mackenrothroad.jpg Signing smack: Project Runway's Jack Mackenroth's thoughts on New York fashion week: "I know some of the designers from other seasons were talking smack about the Project Runway finalists and all their families were right in front of them. John Sidney McCain III and George Walker Bush both represent the third generation of American dynasties. Both were born into positions of privilege against which they rebelled into mediocrity. Both developed an uncanny social intelligence that allowed them to skate by with a minimum of mental exertion. Both struggled with booze and loutish behavior. At each step, with the aid of their fathers' powerful friends, both failed upward."

road.jpg Edmund White on his new biography of Rimbaud, and Rimbaud's relationship with Paul Verlaine: "I think it’s quite clear that Rimbaud was the top in the relationship, and I think that’s something that straight people don’t usually grasp very well. They often see the younger boy as being a sort of stand-in for a girl—maybe that comes out of the classical Greek model. But this idea of a tyrannical younger boy frightening and controlling an older married man is something that people who are gay and who’ve lived in gay life recognize as a possible variation of that situation."

  7. I call bullshit on the Ciara Durkin story. Her family has stated that she told them she was in danger, and that if she was found dead that they needed to be deeply suspicious of any findings that the military published about the cause of her death.

Why was Orlando all over the news today for being first? Was it because Joe was born there?

  16. 23andme is under $500 for gene sequencing. Plus, there's a handy website to find out what it all means as more and more traits are identified from gene studies.

$5000 seems a little expensive in that light. Then again, most companies don't have Google money behind them like 23andme

  17. "A rap of your finger on the drum fires all the sounds and starts a new harmony.

A step of yours, the levy of new men and their marching on.

Your head turns away: O the new love!

Your head turns back: O the new love!
