FOX's Greg Gutfeld Calls Barney Frank a 'Wrinkly Creature with a Knack for Anal Probing'

In a diatribe about progressive ideas and alien conspiracies, the host of FOX's news show Red Eye (a show known for its trans bashing and gay jokes took a jab at Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank and his sexual orientation:

Gutfeld"Look, I don’t dispute that aliens exist, but there are more urgent matters to deal with, other than wrinkly creatures with a knack for anal probing. But enough about Barney Frank...I couldn’t resist."

Think Progress notes that FOX altered the transcript when it posted it on the Red Eye website, changing Gutfeld's quote to "Look, I don’t dispute that aliens exist, but there are more urgent matters to deal with, other than wrinkly creatures with a knack for cavity searches."

Last week, Bill O'Reilly and Dennis Miller joked about Frank in relation to kinky sexual fetishes. It's certainly something Frank has become accustomed to since 1995 (and probably before that), when then-Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey has a "slip of the tongue" and referred to Frank as Barney Fag.

  3. I realize this is not news, but it still amazes me how much more filth and degradation I hear spewing from the mouths of people who claim to be the cultural warriors on filth and degradation.

  4. "filth and degradation?" oh please mary, you must be referring to congress...

...don't take yourselves so seriously, my fellow queers...

LOL! "wrinkly creatures with a knack for anal probing." yes, that's me dahlings, and it pretty much describes with astonishing accuracy your average crowd at the Gold Coast on Santa Monica in West Hollywood!

  5. "Red Eye" proves what most of us have known for quite some time: Conservatives simply aren't funny. Comedy works by skewering pomposity and poking fun at those at the top. Conservatives glorify pomposity and social hierarchies and are therefore incapable of recognizing the fallacy of either.

  6. Anytime I have seen this guy on ranting on TV, I get an "anal-probe-loving vibe" from him. Then the mere thought of him engaging in such activities totally makes me shudder.

Plus, If you close your eyes, he totally sounds like Carol Channing.

  8. At one point we need to hold Fox' "news" division accountable for "REPORTING NEWS". By simply allowing these extremest to express their sided opinions under the umbrella of 'Fox News' does not make it NEWS. They might consider changing their name to "Fox Entertainment" or "FOXY" for short.

It is the dawn of a new America.

  12. I just don't understand how anyone can watch Fox News. It boggles my mind. News requires facts and I've never heard on that station.

What is even worse is that they do their base viewership of conservatives a real disservice. There are actual "true conservative" viewpoints that are worth considering but they get lost in the blather.

I was in diner where they had Fox on TV and O'Reilly last night was blabbering about how things aren't so bad because gas prices are down. Instead of offering true points of view from a conservative about the best way to resolve this mess, he tries putting rose color glasses of $1.83/gallon gas on his viewers.

    It makes my blood boil!

  13. Trust me, these INCREASING incidents of shameless gay bashing on TV are another direct result of Prop 8 winning. While gay black icon Bayard Rustin was talking about politicians 20 years ago when he spoke of how they would, even then, never say the kinds of things about blacks that they did with impunity about gays, he could have just as easily been talking about people on television and radio shows today.

And one of the reasons for that difference then AND now is that antigay bigots are not AFRAID of gays as most racists are of blacks. Much of the progress of people of color was BECAUSE of bigots’ fear that their lives would at least be disrupted should they publicly promote hatred.

We were publicly humiliated in the most gay-friendly state in the country, so why should they fear us? Too many of us are just running around admiring each other’s protest signs, essentially partying in our own safe neighborhoods like the Castro or in front of City Halls and not where such shows of mass anger WOULD ACTUALLY ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING. Not where THEY live, like the homohating Archbishop of San Francisco; or the homes of the heads of the Mormon Church; or FOX STUDIOS!

So, all you “New Stonewallers,” what are you going to do about Bill O’Reilly, and Dennis What’sHisName, and this pig? Just bitch and moan on blogs?

Over THIRTY YEARS ago, at NINETEEN, Mark Segal, “upset that he couldn’t dance with his male partner on a dance show, raided on-air an ABC affiliate in Philadelphia during its 11 pm news hour shouting, “We have grievances,” and was “thrown to floor and his hands tied with mike cable.”

In 1973, millions of TV viewers saw Segal disrupt the “CBS Evening News” with Walter Cronkite, with a sign that read, "Gays protest CBS bigotry." Arrested, he forced Cronkite to testify at his trial, thus giving him an opportunity to educate Cronkite, and the network’s coverage of gays improved.

Segal also zapped on-air Johnny Carson on “The Tonight Show,” Barbara Walters on the “Today” show, and Mike Douglas on his hugely popular show. “The trade newspaper “Variety” claimed that Segal had cost the industry $750,000 in production, tape delays and lost advertising revenue.

So, Schwule Jugend...what are YOU going to do?

    FIGHT BACK! ACT UP!!!

  14. MICHAEL BEDWELL,

you are speaking nothing but the truth. the restive gay community needs to focus. this has nothing to do with whites or blacks or latinos. i have hope that we are beyond that. this is nothing more and nothing less than human beings being human beings to each other. if you cannot take it to the streets in a shanty town, then write your congressperson, write a letter to the editor. do something other than bitch or curse the darkness. act! act like proud homosexuals.

  15. Michael bedwell

    YEPP YEPP

Act Up! used to disrupt mass. Marching into the middle of them and disrupting the services completely. We need to focus on the action, anger, and not so sweet puppies and rainbows actions of our forebears who delivered what few rights we have now. Actual civil disobedience! ACT UP focused and still (the watered down version of the 80's Act Up) focuses on HIV. We need to ACT UP! like they did in the 80's and broader than just about HIV.

A Drag Queen tossed her pumps at police at Stonewall completely counter to what yuppie gays wanted then and even still today prefer.

  16. I actually don't mind Red Eye. They make jokes like that, but they make fun of themselves and everyone. I actually do not get the sense they are anti-gay in the least.

  17. oh I think all gays have a knack for anal probing... must be something in the gay dna or whatever... eventually it will be discovered by some intrepid scientist no doubt... perhaps fox news will do a story on it...

Posted by: the queen | Nov 19, 2008 3:23:36 PM

  18. Mr Bedwell,

it's something to hear you mention Mark Segal. He is part of the Philadelphia "political/social establishment" now--you know, well received by all the mayors, business folks, city council folks. But yes, back in the 70s--he was a Philly hell raiser...very brave and on a mission.

Posted by: Derrick from Philly | Nov 19, 2008 3:32:02 PM

  19. I don't think the joke is offensive...unless you're Barney Frank. And if I were him, it would be the "wrinkly" part that would get to me.

You would have to think that anal sex is shameful to consider this offensive. That's the Puritanical American coming out in you.

  20. Agree with Aaron - Red Eye is an equal opportunity offender - anyone who finds this offensive check the transcripts for what they say about everyone else, especially the guests who actually do appear on the show.

Wrinkly and into anal probing? Who isn't... ?

    Meh.

  22. Red Eye has ONE WHOLE FAG on their show!

It's actually somewhat original and follows a Politically Incorrect style, but not as smart, per se.

Either way, check it out -- the gay guy and Greg have SO many good gay jokes and innuendo, that I get a good laugh here and there... on Fox News Channel... who would have thought THAT possible (though O'Reilly is funny too, but in a scary way).

    Posted by: Drew | Nov 20, 2008 1:08:09 AM

  23. Let me guess...this douche used to beat up "fags" in junior high school. Little has changed with his mentality since then. What a tired act...oh, it's on Fox...gee, what a surprise.

  24. Im going to have to agree with Aaron and Patrick on this one, Red Eye is pretty funny and are definitely equal opportunity offenders. I really dont get an anti-gay vibe at all, they make fun of everyone.
