Cops in Battle Gear Guard the Mormon Temple
When I lived in L.A. I used to live right next door to the Mormon Temple. My former roommate Michael took these photos last night after things had quieted down. Check out those cops on the lawn. Mind you there's already an eight foot high cast-iron fence keeping the property from the street.
For those of you waking up on the west coast, here are my updates on the Prop 8 battle:
SCHEDULE of PROTEST EVENTS for this weekend here. [tr]
Strip the Mormon Church of its Tax Exempt Status [tr]
Thousands Join Marriage Equality Protest at L.A. Mormon Church [tr]
Invalidate Prop 8 [online initiative]
Online petition to Arnold Schwarzenegger [petition]

Mormons make up 2% of the California's population but 8 passed with 52.7% of the popular vote. 75% of black women voted against prop 8 and many other religions also fought so it would pass. So why single them out there are plenty of other people in this state that think being gay is a fucking disgusting abomination.
PS this country was founded on freedom of religion so the dumbass who said they should ban religion should go sit on a fucking broken glass bottle and spin.
We probably should just legalize gay marriage all the faggots in the state would probably get so happy they would go on an ass fucking frenzy all get AIDS and die within couple of years.
Then there would be no gays and we could show IRAN how to more efficiently get the world from the pro queer faggot agenda that is plaguing our society like the black death!

Wren,
We don’t need to pass laws because we are better off speaking truth to open people’s minds than to force them into obeying a law. People need to know the truth about the Mormon’s founder Joseph Smith being a liar. They need to know that the Mormon religion/cult is based on a lie.
We should be telling people the truth about the scriptures in any religion so they can see that the scriptures they are using to judge us are a lie. Science is on our side.
I believe many of you may find one of these sites ( http://www.deism.com/ or http://www.atheists.org/ ) helpful in combating these religious bigots who hide behind their idiot scriptures to cast us as second class citizens.
Also we should all remember that the Mormons, Catholics, Baptist, Evangelicals, etc. don’t get along except to hate us. We need to learn to divide and conquer.
♥

Bad news. Black gay blogs are reporting that black gays taking part in the West Hollywood protest demonstrations were being called "niggers" and threatened with violence. That's bad...really bad.

Patrick, I think you stated it backwards --
70/30 of blacks voted FOR the ban (i.e. for Prop 8,not against it). Post article states same

My instinct tells me that it's not a good idea for our community to respond to Prop. 8 with anti-Mormon hatred. While it's easy to feel rage and place blame, those things will not help us forward in our struggle.
Instead, we need to be proactive, critically analyze why we lost this campaign, and mobilize ourselves to fight for our rights. That may include taking a step back to reconsider our strategy.

Correction:
The protest demonstration turned Gay KKK rally was in an LA neighborhood called Westwood.
Really bad news.

I am a gay white male who lives in NW Tennessee, but before anyone blames the passage of Prop 8 on the black voters in California, please read and tell other gays the following:

There is a lot of disinformation out there spread by the RW to tear gays and minorities apart. Don't believe everything you hear!!!

Time to start the petition to put the repeal of prop 8 on the ballot. The Mormon Church stands behind their action to strip us of the right to marry and to legislate their religious beliefs on the rest of us. "The Church expresses deep appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the many Latter-day Saints and others who supported the coalitions in efforts regarding these amendments. "

As they congratulate themselves on legislating discrimination, we need to learn from our mistakes and regroup. Don't spend a dime in Utah or at a Marriott or any other Mormon-owned business. Boycott Sundance until they move. Ski Colorado. Don't even connect in SLC. And there's another Mormon temple in Oakland....

Everyone needs to STOP the racism. It was the Mormons and other religious right groups that paid for this as well as spreading the lies. Just look at what the asshole who posted under the name get a life stated. He obviously knows it’s his religion of lies that has caused this. Again, we need to join together to fight together to stop these bigots and the root cause is NOT people’s color it’s their religion of lies and deceit

How many churches (temples) have an eight foot fence around them? And who gets to have a key to the gate?... jesus fucking christ.
Paranoid much?

How many more freakin' times does a ballot have to be voted on to mean something? How many times does the CA Constitution have to be amended before it sticks? If you think the religious and conservative bigots won't keep fighting just as hard as we do, think again.
I'm tired of courts, ballots and being pussies, as someone said. Let's get angry!

Derrick, are you serious? That is disgusting, and, its a shame that these same vocal protesters were not out doing out reach and that the No on 8 did not have people of color working with them on how to go into certain neighborhoods with a message of why the initiative was wrong. The vote was huge in Korea Town and east LA and with the Chinese in SF, Orange County and a whole lot of other areas in this state, I wonder why they are exempt from this rage and use of racial slurs?
