Steven Meisel Shoots Madonna for Louis Vuitton

Madonnalv1

Via WWD:

"When Marc Jacobs found himself in a meeting on a recent Monday morning to brainstorm about Louis Vuitton’s next fashion advertising campaign, inspiration struck. 'I just blurted out, ‘I think we should do Madonna,’' said the designer, Vuitton’s creative director, mentioning he’d attended a concert by the pop icon the night before in Paris. 'I was totally just blown away by it, and moved by her performance, by what she had to say, and her energy.' As the meeting went on, Jacobs tapped out a message to Madonna on his BlackBerry, and within about five minutes came the reply: 'I’d love to.' Although [Vuitton’s director of communications Antoine] Arnault declined to give figures, he said media budgets for the fashion campaign would be on par with a year ago. And he dismissed as 'absurd' reports pegging Madonna’s fees at $10 million. 'It’s very far away from that,' he assured."

Four more images have been shot for the campaign, which begins in February.

One more shot, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. I see two leather bags. Which one's Madonna?

  2. Good for Madonna...let's hope the "Madonna is old" posts are kept to a minimum this time around...THOSE are getting old.

  3. That second shot is very Danceteria Madonna, with the leg up and the jewelry. Beautifully styled photos. Too bad about the bad hair and the 'what bitch?' face.

  4. I got really hopeful after glancing at the post title.

Then I realized you were referring to photography...

    Phooey.

  5. SPENN: loves it!

  6. What's her problem? Her legs are always spread apart. Does she have the "itch"?

50 year old women who are always "airing out the crotch" are absurd. I don't care how well preserved she is. Face it, all of you guys are older, but you still see her through your teenaged and 20-something eyes.

  7. She's giving me "FUCK YOU bitter queens"

  8. And given the present economic conditions, this ad is relevant because it will singlehandedly resuscitate the lagging retail industry; in no time at all.

    Merry X-mas, y'all!

  9. "...inspiration struck. 'I just blurted out, ‘I think we should do Madonna,’' said the designer"

    At which point everyone threw-up.

  12. Ok, this is proof that Marc Jacobs needs to STFU and go away. Sticky & Sweet SUCKED!!!!

  13. Alright, Arnault, but what was the Photoshop budget?

  14. Just one word comes to mind...TIRED.

  15. Actually, Madonna looks reasonably like this lately even with NO airbrushing (http://boyculture.typepad.com/boy_culture/2008/11/old-bag-with-new-bag.html)—she looks harsher and more her age with her stage makeup/hair. I don't get why any gay man would have such antipathy for Madonna, but it must provide some kind of snarky comfort. And I'll never understand why spreading your legs (which she isn't even doing in this pictures) is somehow verboten at age 40 or 50 or beyond. I did blog about this and the main negative thing I will admit is that Marc Jacobs sounds stupid acting like hiring Madonna for Louis V was some brilliant inspiration—she's been the face of several other clothing companies already. Nothing bold about that choice. But the pictures are great.

  16. Madonna is no longer relevant. They need to hire someone who teenagers AND adults look up to: Mariah Carey. She is the hottest star in the world right now and is a lot prettier than Madonna. She's even been called "The New Queen of Pop" by a major music critic.

  17. the statement of Madonna NOT relevant?? taking your time out to comment on her MAKES her relevant! She looks great with or without air bushing! we all could do with a lil air bushing!

  18. ^^^
    exactly!

She looks fabulous! I love it.

  19. My comment actually has nothing to do with Madonna. I just don't find Louis Vuitton's Monogram Canvas designs aesthetically pleasing. My ex-boyfriend has a Louis Vuitton wallet, and I think the gold on brown pallette just looks "muddy." To each his own, I suppose.

  20. Jake:

It's not about how aesthetically pleasing. It's in the name. I don't care for LV either but I get it.

If LV had two turds for straps, Queens and Women will still kill for it.

  21. Uh excuse me, MARIAH CAREY! HAHAHAHAHAHA! Mimi needs to put some clothes on and stop looking for hubbies outside of Malibu Grand Prix.

Even she would tell you M is the shit! Let's face it, no other star has stayed so on top and relevant as Madonna in our lifetimes. If you're 60 or 15 you know what she's up to, you've heard her latest single, seen her videos and admired and/or hated her. SHE IS RELEVANCE PERSONIFIED!

    AND she's probably fucking A-ROD!

Drop the bitter boots bitchez. Bow down and recognize.

I'm not even a huge fan but I wouldn't dare say she isn't relevant.

Marc Jacobs, on the other hand.........

  23. :) She looks very hot ,and i think the cast can be better, expect the next poster

Posted by: Louis vuitton | Jan 12, 2009 5:36:00 AM

  24. The first time I saw this editorial I thought it was Hot! Most of you like her, and the ones that don't are hating on her so hard. Like one before said, no matter how old you are you know what she's doing.
You know what they say, if they're not talking about you your not doing something right. She's 50 people! Looks 20 years younger than that. Airbrushed or not. She's fly and will be til she dies.

I love the ad, love the Louis V.
    Marc Jacobs forever-
