Towleroad Guide to the Tube #408

BART SHOOTING: A report on the senseless New Years Day shooting of a 22-year-old man by a BART police officer. The shooting has inspired violent rioting in Oakland. I agree, this officer should be held without bail. He has apparently resigned.

JOE THE PLUMBER: Joe the plumber (who was not a real plumber) is working for a news organization now, traveling to Gaza to be a war correspondent.

PUPPY DEBATE: I posted a link to it yesterday, but here it is again on AC360 if you missed it.

DICKS: Kathy Griffin talks to Jimmy Kimmel about her New Years Eve. Part two is here.

  1. Is it just me, or does Joe-the-Plumber-WannaBe-War-Correspondent bear a striking resemblence to Jeff-the-Escort-WasForAMinute-White-House-Correspondent (Jimmy-Jeff Guckert-Gannon)?

Maybe they should revive Jimmy-Jeff's old website.

  2. Best line from JOE the douche bag, "I don't expect God to stop a mortar for me". Really?

With any luck he will soon be known as JOE THE CORPSE.

  3. what a world, what a world .... a young man is murdered by a policeman, and joe the fraud is reporting on gaza. sad, but true.

  4. the saddest thing about the BART shooting incident is that the victim left behind a 4 year old daughter and the cop who killed him had a girlfriend who just gave birth.

the upshot is that there are now 2 kids who are going to be without fathers. unbearably sad.

  5. In the middle of this BART fiasco Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums is kissing up to Obama for a federal job. Dellums is the worst mayor Oakland has had in a years.

  6. I've accepted that a day without asking us to forget Harvey Milk's lessons and shove our heads up Anderson Cooper's bony ass is like a day without sunshine...but RERUNS now?

How about a contest? "Pick your favorite rim job er story on Anderson." The winner gets a higher price when selling his political soul.

  7. Joe "the plumber" may not have had a license, but I tend to believe that one who installs and repairs plumbing for a living is still a plumber. Do the "journalists" who reported his lack of a license have journalism licenses?

The fact that someone would wish DEATH on this guy for raising a question to a political candidate is really fucking scary and pathetic. How is that attitude different than the extreme Bushies?

What's sickening (though not as sickening as the death wishers) is that the whole point of his smarmy "fame" was that he supposedly represented the average American, so it would be nice if he continued that schtick and fade back into the same anonymity the rest of us enjoy.

Get your fucking license and get your real job back and get out of our faces for christs sake.

  8. the guy who was, very likely accidentally, shot by a transit 'cop' had just been involved in a gang fight onboard a train.. no angel he who had just recently been released from prison.. not that he should have been shot, but a little context would be helpful.
the 'protests' were instigated by a communist bookstore in berkeley and the professional agitators of a.n.s.w.e.r.
black teens then joined the 'party' for a night of vandalism and random violence. store fronts were smashed, car windows of innocent residents were broken and the vehicles set ablaze, and of course, the ever-popular trashing of a city police vehicle by a band of teenage morons who had no idea what they were 'protesting' and could care less.
the idiot, old-hippie mayor dellums made a rare appearance at city hall.. to side with the vandals !! how ironic is it that a recemt controversy has been whether to allow HBO to film in the city because it might tarnish its image. last night did more to harm oakland's image, not to mention credit and insurance ratings, than any tv show could have. thanks a lot, assholes !

  9. well, for the sake of justice and fairness, i sure hope that "el polacko" isn't on any jury in this country, since how does one "accidently" shoot someone who is on the ground on his stomach in the back?? and, ones past or present does not make it justifed to be murdered, in oakland, nyc, or chicago, if he broke the law, he should have been ARRESTED, not shot in the back, no matter his race.

  10. Not just on the ground and on his back, but being held there by other officers. That would be an execution.

Last I heard, the legal process surrounding a gangfight on a train--unpleasant and unlawful as it is--does not involve execution without trial.

  12. Elpolacko, typical power worshiping right-wing faggot. a comment from Huffpo:

"as always, the comments here reveal so much about the lefties that greg lampoons. if they are not regurgitating some party line, then they resort to death wishes (!) and nasty, anti-gay slurs ("spit and shove park" ?!) and all this from the purportedly most open-minded and peace-loving crowd... sheesh."

  13. El Polacko,

You won't get much support at this website, but I agree with most of your points. Oakland doesn't have the shitty reputation it has for nothing and the thugs that rioted last night only served to strengthen that reputation.

  14. That was a pretty mild "riot" over what amounts to an execution. Whatever the fuck happened on the train is irrelevant, and people who say otherwise need help.

  15. Towleroad, keep bringing the Anderson Cooper goodies, he is so cute and unlike some people here, how he's chosen to live his life doesn't bother me a bit, he's a cool guy.

  16. Just for the record, one theory of the BART shooting is that, in the heat of the moment, the officer mistakenly reached for, aimed and pulled the trigger on a taser gun, which has a similar design to the weapons BART cops are issued, and is also worn in a holster on the waist. There is no way to know at this point if that theory holds any truth, but if it is what happened, the death of the rider is no less tragic, but it's not an execution.
