Bishop T.D. Jakes Speaks Out About Son's Gay Sex Arrest

JakesBishop T.D. Jakes, the homophobic Dallas megachurch pastor whose son was arrested last week after exposing himself and masturbating in front of law enforcement officers during a sex sting in a public park, released a statement over the weekend (which he also read to his congregation) distancing himself from his son's actions by pointing out that Jermaine Jakes is an adult. Bishop Jakes also says that his son is being shown a "restorative grace" indicative of his ministry.

According to the Dallas Voice, Jakes has said that he would never hire a sexually active gay person, has spoken out against same-sex marriage, and has called homosexuality a "brokenness."

Jermaine Jakes turned himself in to police last Thursday on an indecent exposure charge.

As parents, we occasionally feel that our children do not live up to our highest and best ideals. When they do not, we don't diminish our love for them as recompense for our disapproval. Like our children, we also are not infallible nor do we profess to be. Our now adult son Jermaine is 29, but when he was at home he was a recipient of correction, compassion and wise counsel. We hope that the light of what we believe will guide him through times of contradiction and moments of concern as he continues to mature.

In spite of the family pain we feel from this unfortunate situation, it has given us a chance to show him the same help, support, and restorative grace for which our family and church is noted. Through our ministry at The Potter’s House, as well as our own home, we have for years offered help in the time of need to all adults, our five children and other people’s children.

It is in moments like these that I am so grateful that we do not preach that we are the solution, but we look to Christ for resolution. So then, as a very human family with real issues, like many other people, we will draw from the same well of grace to which we have led others to drink and be refreshed.

Bishop T.D. Jakes

  7. I am just really shocked at the negative comments listed and the lack of respect for the man of God. Bishop Jakes has never said he was perfect, none of us are, we are only striving to be. If you don't believe the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, then all we can do is pray for you. Christian have been persecuted evert since the death, and glorious ressurection of Christ for their beliefs. We don't expect any thing different now. But a word of warning, It is a dangerous thing to fall into the hands of an angry God.

  8. Bishop TD Jakes is a man of God. The Lord loves him and his family. Especially Jermaine, he may hate the sin, but he loves the sinner. Their are many examples in the Bible which tell us the the son does not always follow after the footsteps of his father. Like Eli and his sons, or David and his sons who rebelled against him and commited rape with his sister. Cain and Able, etc., so children acting contrary to what they have been taught is not a new thing. I know this, Jesus came to set the captive and dmonized free. This is what He does. The Lord will send someone speak with Jermain and bring him back into right relationship with God. He is an adult and must choose who he will serve but prayer changes things and we the body of christ, will pray. Be careful what you speak against the man of God, better to be silent and hold your peace if you do not undertand the thing of God and how He works.

  11. I cannot understand why people feel that Bishop Jakes' son's behavior is representative of his father or some sort of failure of his father.

Even Adam, a man who walked hand in hand with God had a son who was a murderer. In fact, Jesus befriended the most unsavory of characters, even Judas. Christians are not above enduring pain and suffering or having people in our lives that make bad choices.

I didn't hear Jakes say he was perfect or that his family was perfect. What I do hear him saying is that God said this is wrong, so I believe it. I hold myself accountable for making choices that are inline with God's word. I teach my children the same. However, at adulthood they have the choice to make their own decisions.

It doesn't mean that while Christians, like Jakes, like myself, are praying and depending on God to help them live according to God's rules, that they are perfect, and will not make mistakes, or fail. It does mean that we are going to hold ourselves accountable for our mistakes and keep praying and believing God will change us and make us more like Jesus, our example.

If Christians trying to make themselves live a Godly life, and choosing to believe things are wrong that God says are wrong, offends you then so be it.

  12. The bible clearly says that homosexuality is wrong. If God says it is wrong, I am going to believe him.

Why does that make people so angry. Why does me believing God over other people's opinion about what is wrong, make unbelievers angry. I don't get it.

Why would a believe a mere human's opinion.
    You are not GOD.

  14. Bishop Jakes is just saying the truth. God's against "homosexuality" so much so that He destroyed the Sodom and Gomorrah in the time of Lot because of it. Bishop doesnt have to suck up to the world's views because someone somewhere thinks it's right...according to the Lord whom he is answerable to, it's wrong and it's just right he stood up for the truth!!!
    Peace Out!!!

  15. Laviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind,as he lieth with a woman, both of then have committed an abomination:they shall surely be put to death their blood shall be upon them. And Christianity is the main problem along with all world religions, the bible is not an religious book nor did god ever ordain or set any institute for religion he gave Moses laws, statures and commandments. For some of these people saying Mr. Jakes need to let is son live his life the way he want and so more idiots saying thats just how god made him, thats madness, anybody that say they born gay calls god a lier and he's not a god of confusion

  16. most times poeple tend to want to do a job not assinged to them when they they try to be what BishopEddie Long will call "Holy Ghost police" how on earth should someone who doesnt evenknow what parameters God is going to use to judge the world open his mouth to call another person names simply because his son decided to go off his father's way. its not called for..i mean the person in question is not a baby and even at that what makes you think you are good enough to stand Gods judgment...even God himself left judgement for His son which is slated for the end. dont comdemn what God has not condemned.

  17. Because that when they knew God they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful, but became vain in their imaginations and their foolish heart was darkened Professing themselves to be wise they became fools:Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of thir own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves Who changed the truth of God into a lie. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature and like wise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemlly and receiving in themselves that recompence(reward), of error which was meet(Due)Romans1:21-27 Ye shall know the true and the truth shall set you free.

  18. I'm impressed by both the negative and positive comments made concerning the man of God Bishop Jakes.
I'm so determined within me to be part of those that are going to snatch back Jermaine from the claws of the evil one.
This year will not end before he experiences some moral shift.Lets continue to earnestly intercede for him daily so that he will be among those that will see the light this year.

  19. I never could figure out why homosexual people get so angry when christians speak. He isn't degrading his son or homsexuality so why the nasty comments? He clearly said he loves his child but doesnt agree with his choices...whats the big deal? THIS IS STILL AMERICA, HE HAS THE RIGHT TO DISAGREE. How can you get angry at people because they don't want to live your lifestyle? We aren't angry because you choose to not live ours... I think gay people are angry over their own personal circumstance and the ugly nasty comments are a cover for the fact that no matter how many laws get changed and how acceptable society makes homsexuality, deep down they realize and believe that heaven's laws are off limit and you cant change GOD. ITS WRONG. GOD SAID ITS WRONG.. in the end you have the same choice we all have change your lifestyle or burn. Dont hate the messenger. We all have the same dilema, stop lying, stop fornicating, stop cheating, it doesnt mean God doesn't love you just means you cant have EVERYTHING you want in life.. YOU DONT GET TO HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO..sorry. Oh and for the idot that thinks the Bible is man made...who exactly came up with the scientific method??? MEN and WOMEN so if you can believe in your man made rhetoric I can believe in mine. It's all a theory anyway right? Except...WHAT IF YOU'RE WRONG?????

  20. Bishop Jakes, you and your wife have an amazing ministry and it has blessed my life in ways that words could never fully convey. The word of God has changed how I see and know myself and I thank you for rising to the difficult challenge of committing your life to contributing to "filling broken vessels" The thing about true committment is that it still exists when no one agrees with you and its there even when your heart is breaking. You get the real with the fake and the good with the bad, that's a new concept for me but you've been a shining example. Thank you. My prayers remain with you and your family.

  21. Whenever we have issues in our lives Pastors like T.D Jakes are always praying and battling with us. Now we should be praying and battling for him. Paul in the bible said that as christians we should pray for each other and he always told the church to pray for him. The devil is out there to destoy any1 whether pastor or not. He tried to destroy Jesus but Jesus overcame the devil thru prayer and so will T.D Jakes and his family

  22. Okay, first of all God is a God that wants everyone to take responsibility for his/her own actions, God isnt gona ask T.D what he has done with his sons soul. Jermaine will one day aswer that questions. Christ is Love, read Korinthiers 13. So i cant see where T.D made the mistake of not beign a Chiristian in your eyes. According to God Homosexuallity/ Gay is a sin and According to Gods Word not mine nor yours or T.D he says for the man who sin should die. Christ only came to give us time to get loose from our bounded soul through His help. Not saying that we as humans can do what we want but simply giving us time to admit where we are wrong and that we need Jesus in our Live. T.D can do nothing for his son Only God can help him. For the world talks of Peace but there is no peace within them. The problem of todays people is that they only want Jesus to fit into their lives when it suites them. They only want to read in the Bible the things that they think is applicable in their lives. Since you are pointing the fingers to T.D saying that he isnt a Father for his son, how many of you that think you know how to be a Christian can stand up for Jesus and do a better job than T.D. Please let me know. Become a Born Again Christian and come and show me, T.D and the whole world how to behave, do and think like a Christian, Then i will be glad to respect your opionions on this webpage. They often say the people on the stand usually plays the game better than the players on the field. Come join the field and see if you can even play the game. Dont just talk come and do. I CHALLENGE you!!!!!!

  23. the man is 29 years old, an adult, Bishop jakes is not responsible for his son's action, you people just need to try hard to guide your own children and quit the blaming game lack of attention, He is 29 for crying out loud.... A MAN. Bishop jakes you are doing a great job keep going forward

  24. I think everyone should take a deep breath and look hard in the mirrow at themselves. Noons is perfect, no not one. He who can cast the first stone let him step forward. Aland all this profanity show a sign of illiteracy, and also lack of respect. Everything done in the dark will come to the light. That goes for you, me and everyone else. So pastor James is treating this matter with much grace and compassion as any other father would. Touch not my anointed is correct. Be very, very ca

  25. The fact that he indecently exposed himself would seem to be the area of greatest concern and that he was arrested because of it would be the area of concern and prayer rather than trying to bash innuendos at Bishop Jakes for clearly expressing that his son is an adult and must grow and experience life like any other adult regardless how difficult. I would pray that he would look to Christ to bring him through this difficulty since He is the ONLY one that his son can trust and depend on. He is not alone. I know for myself.
