Illinois Hate Group's Anti-Gay 'Misinfomercial' Attacks 'Day of Silence'

The Illinois Family Institute, a certified hate group, has just released a fear-mongering, disgusting, lie-filled video about the upcoming Day of Silence on Friday, April 17. The Day of Silence, sponsored by GLSEN and now in its 13th year, is a day on which school kids across the nation take a vow of silence to draw attention to bullying, name-calling and harassment in the nation's schools.

Coincidentally, this year's Day of Silence falls on what would have been Carl Hoover-Walker's 12th birthday.

So how many children were harmed during the filming of the Illinois Family Institute's "misinfomercial"? If they get what they want, certainly many more than the twenty or so duct-taped youngsters who were forced to take part in it.

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. They call it a CULTURE WAR; is it really?

Why is it that THEIR SIDE has NO CASUALTIES WHATSOEVER from this "war" - NONE - while OUR SIDE has 1,000's and 1,000's of horror stories? And why is it that our "leaders" are still terrified of sharing these stories? (like in the PROP 8 FIASCO?).

    To sum up:

    THEM - no harm
US - we have LOST our own children, homes, pensions, careers, mental "health", and even our dignity. Some war. They have the upper legal hand and we "protest" instead of REVOLT.

  2. As I always ask ... what are they so afraid of? As well it's a sad commentary on the parents of those children involved that they were allowed to participate in such a hateful video. Sad indeed.

  3. Yay, it worked. the video was removed

  4. removed "by the user", not YouTube. The Illinois Family Institute probably pulled the vid due to the dismal ratings. It'll be back... with the rating function disabled.

  6. JohnInManhattan, you were right - it's back up with ratings disabled.

  7. That means: Keep flagging it and bring it to youtubes attention.I would flag a video even if it promoted racism.Flag it as many times as it takes for youtube to remove it themselves. These right-wingers are so damn predictable.

  8. Can't watch it any more--the video has been pulled "by the user." Can you summarize it, Andy?

  9. The video's been put back up both on IFI's site ( http://www.illinoisfamily.org/news/contentview.asp?c=34355 ) and YouTube ( ttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9d38EoQ9pg ). Rating seems to be disabled, and I didn't check commentary.

  10. What diatribe - is this how white slave owners justified having black slaves!

Religion itself (and I mean all of them) may not be the problem but the people who run it sure can be - this is just pure hatred because your not like me, how long before the swastikas start appearing in some of these churches.

I watched it on youtube and have also flagged it.

  11. Okay YouTubers...

  12. Wow..
Maybe if we were excepted as equals in all aspects of society, there wouldn't be as much drug & alcohol abuse, suicide and sexual transmitted disease in our community. Did they ever think of that when they were making this beautiful film?
Well, whatever, judging from the long list of sinners at the end, we will have a lot of company in hell. But they left out a very large and important group: self-righteous twats.

  13. It's shameful that so called "God Fearing" Christains spent so much time and energy on a good old fashion fire and brim stone serman and never bothered to consider the people they were hurting.

They forget "Judge not, lest you be judged.." and plain ole christain charity. Neighbors throughout their state being shut out of their homes, children sleeping in shelters, the streets or their parents cars and going to sleep each night hungry.

For people so concerned about their children they had no problem ignoring the children who are suffering. Wonder how many children could have been fed, or families helped to not loose their home if they had put their energies time and money there instead. Wonder how they are going to explain to their God that instead of loving one another as he instructed they chose to pick up the first stone. Amazingly they hold on a few pages of the bible and throw away the rest of the book in their actions.

  14. Troglodytes on the wrong side of history trying desperately to drag us all back to the mid 20th Century. Sad that their own children will be the ones to suffer most. They will be remembered in the same way we remember lynchings in Mississippi, the confederacy and slave traders and owners.

  15. I've also flagged for religious discrimination. I firmly believe that anything this misinformed and hateful only makes moderate Christian allies look as offensive as their radical Christianofascist opposites in the eyes of viewers. Only ignorance would allow anyone to think this message represents the reality of all Christians.

  16. Phew! Christian propaganda is alive and well! Well, my gay brothers (and sisters), get ready for more--much, much more like this. Expect violence and hatred like we've never seen. The christianists are in their death throes. They know it but they will not go quietly. They will use every vile lie they can to discredit our fight for human dignity and full civil equality in America. I am thankful for a place like Towleroad. So many articulate, perceptive and courageous people. It gives me hope.

  19. I can't beleive they can take themselves seriously enough to even finish filming that horrible film. When they started showing the flag, I thught they were going to burst out an apple pie and have June Clever serve it up to the "good" christians.

  20. "The Illinois Family Institute, a certified hate group..."

Certified by whom? The US government? The Vatican? Disney World?

Andy Towle, do you even have a brain in your head? There's no such thing as a process for certifying some organization a hate group.

The IFI is considered a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Their listing of IFI as such is an expression of the SPLC's judgment; it is not proof of anything as your statement implied.

Yes, I know you included a link to SPLC's list, but that's not nearly good enough. You should have simply said the IFI is on the SPLC's list of hate groups in the US and included the link.

  23. I'm embaressed that there are so many ignorant, brainwashed, scared people out there who are like impressionable little children and will totally eat this up. This is the kind of propaganda that scared young parents into voting for Prop Hate in CA. I remember one ad portrayed a little kindergardener coming home from school to tell his Mommy how he learned about gay sex today. So bizarre.
Education about this kind of propaganda is the equal rights movement's only chance.

  25. "I cried. I cried and I yearned to take up arms against these people. I'M NOT A FUCKING DEVIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Well, you are if you're into kink like BDSM. *snickers*

But seriously, there are people out there who use a slippery slope argument to equate homosexuality and relations between consenting adults to things like necrophilia, pedophilia and bestiality. These people have no moral compass whatsoever.
