Ultimate Fighting President Dana White Apologizes for Anti-Gay Slur

Dana White, President of ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was called on to apologize by GLAAD after posting a vlog directed at mixed martial arts reporter Loretta Hunt which contained misogynistic and anti-gay slurs.

White White was angry at Hunt for a story she wrote reporting on new restrictions on backstage credentials at the UFC fights.

GLAAD wrote: "In the video, White rants, “And here’s a quote from a guy who wanted to remain anonymous because of fear of repercussions. Shut the f**k up. Any f**king guy who won’t put his name on it. First of all, whoever gave you that quote is a pu**y and a f**king f**got and a f**king liar and everything else.”  Although White doesn’t state the name of the article, based on the author’s name and the content he most likely was referring to this article on the sherdog website. White’s remarks cross a line - it’s unacceptable for an industry professional at his level to trade in these kinds of defamatory, anti-gay slurs.  White knows the impact of words.  Early in the video, he instructs his fighters not to curse on television.  And yet, later in the video he goes on to do exactly that.  He is also aware of the impact that he has.  The UFC’s - and White’s - primary audience is 18 - 34 year old men, and based on his own remarks about how editors can tell a story so the audience cares, he understands just how influential the words that he chooses can be for his audience."

Said White in an apology posted today: "As far as the gay and lesbian community, my comments were not directed toward them. I have no problem with the gay or lesbian community. I'm actually a supporter of many of their issues. The last thing that I would ever want anybody to think about me or think is cool is to go out and attack somebody because of their sexual orientation. That was not my intention. That's not the way I said it and I apologize for anybody that I've offended or hurt."

  1. and when did I tell you to do any of those things? I don't care what you do, but if you write everyone your deep thoughts on GLAD and "political correctness," you should be called out for your obvious stupidity. GLAAD and groups like it have been working to protect the rights and respect of everyone in our community, and because you have some macho bad-ass vision where you're not a victim and that you're not offended, you can dismiss GLAAD?

even worse, you're a hypocrite. If you don't think words have meaning and effects, then why would you even bother with all of your stupid posts and responses. You must see some value in it, and so would a 6 year old gay boy who watched Dana White's blog, who just might feel better about himself after Dana White's apology.

  3. It never ceases to amaze me how many idiots come flying out of the wood work to screech "violation of free speech rights, violation of free speech rights!" every time one of these stories is reported.

Pick up a goddamned book on the CONSTITUTION and actually find out what constitutional "free speech" IS and ISN'T. Most every person on this thread screaming "free speech" is making a complete fool of him/herself.

I'm not going to waste my time trying to educate you morons, I'm just going to beg you to educate yourselves before you post rants about things you clearly know nothing about.

Here's a hint to get you started. THIS story has absolutely NOTHING to do with an expression of, or a violation of, constitutional free speech rights. In fact, there is NO right, constitutional or otherwise, to UNCHALLENGED free speech.

I'm really curious to know why some of you feel that Mr. White's rant was an expression of free speech but the outrage expressed by some in response to his comment somehow is NOT free speech.

Please, by all means, explain this amazingly self-contradictory reasoning.

  5. Funny how when someone is angry and in a rage they know not to use the "N" word ... thats not cool... plus they may get the shit beaten out of them, but when they are in a rage there is no issue with using a gay slur!

I find that funny! No longer cool to use the "N" word but ok to use any gay slur!
