  2. Man, "9 to 5" must really stink if it couldn't find a spot in that Best Musical lineup. I mean, "Rock of Ages" was fun, but let's be real.

  3. Um...Shrek the Musical is nominated for a Best Musical Tony?!?! It is the most festering turd to ever sully Broadway. Nobody with a whit of credibility would deign to give it even the briefest pretense of legitimacy. What a fuckin' joke. This list is bunk.

  4. Some nominations not on the list below, including the divine Angela Lansbury for "Blithe Spirit."

Promises to be an even gayer Tonys than usual with the salute to Jerry Herman of "Hello Dolly," "Mame," and "La Cage Aux Folles" fame. Look for Angela in that. Is a salute to marriage equality built around "I Am What I Am" too much to hope for? And, please, please, St. Judy, no more Jennifer Hudson until she's fixed that excrutiating and frightening premature-for-her-youth, uncontrolled vibrato. You could leap frog between her wobbling notes.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY A FEATURED ACTOR IN A PLAY

  5. Really? Nothing for [title of show]?

    Boooo!

  6. Good Lord! I forgot these gayer than laughter peeps, too.

    BEST SCORE

Billy Elliot, The Musical Music: Elton John
    Lyrics: Lee Hall
Next to Normal Music: Tom Kitt
    Lyrics: Brian Yorkey
9 to 5: The Musical Music & Lyrics: Dolly Parton
Shrek The Musical Music: Jeanine Tesori
    Lyrics: David Lindsay-Abaire

I'm embarrassed to say I've heard none of them, but something in me would rather see Dolly Parton at the mike than that rageaholic, four-eyed fat tick John who'll have his turn to fill up the stage with his ego when "Billy" wins Best Musical.

  7. I wish there were a nod for [Title of Show]!

  8. I retract my earlier "boooo!"

Hunter Bell was nominated for best book of a musical for [title of show]. Good on him.

  9. I saw "Billy Elliot in London. It's great. It deserves to win best musical. The amazing power of a little boy having the guts to become a ballet dancer in a blue-collar, gritty, homophobic town in the grips of a strike is a legend in the making. I hope it wins. For the sake of so many "Billys" out there, including me.
