Real NJ Housewife Danielle Defends Gays; Andy Cohen Backs Her Up

Danielle

Good for both of them.

On The Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion, the housewives discuss an episode in which one of the husbands made gay slurs. Danielle (above), who has been attacked by the other housewives through the course of the season for her alleged criminal past, defends gays because she has a close best friend who is gay.

The other housewives don't seem to understand how using the word "gay" to express that something is lame can ultimately hurt people. Andy Cohen steps in to defend Danielle. Excellent.

Thank you, Andy Cohen.

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

  2. Thank you andy! Im from philly and know that it was offensive and was meant to be degrading to gay people. Its unbelieveable how much in denial that housewife is!!!

    BULLSHIT macho behavior.

  3. no way in hell i was ever gonna watch any of these shows, but i sure wanted to hear what discussion followed his self disclosure

  4. wow. would love to know what was said, if anything directly after the clip stopped

  5. It is good that they brought this up, especially Andy making it so real by stating he is gay, it looked like it stunned the women.
However, didn't Danielle refer to her friend as "a gay" one episode? I find that offensive.

But regardless, kudos for having that dialogue.

  6. Gay is not a synonym for stupid. I'm glad this women stepped up and said it was offensive. GOOD FOR HER!

  7. Andy Cohen...so cute :)

  8. @ david...redundant much?

  9. This made me think of my own thoughtlessness .... never gave the term INDIAN GIVER a second thought until I said it infront of a Native American coworker who was very offended and pointed out the insanity of Indians being put down this way when it was the white race that broke some major promises!

I never even included any image or thought of Indians when I said it.

So I UNDERSTAND why people "defend" saying "that is so gay" as not homophobic.

I was not anti-Native American when I said Indian Giver ... but if I continued to say it after being educated that is offensive and why .... well I would just be a common jerk.

  10. Ford,

You have to watch the show. Specifically the finale.

Do it. Do it now. Please.

  11. Not only will they not acknowledge that it could be hurtful - they accuse her of faking her reaction. Horrible. Danielle's not perfect, but she deserves better than that bunch (minus Jacqueline).

  12. Danielle just keeps it real. The finale was the best, staged or not. I think the NJ wife with the Planet of the Apes forehead has a little brain hence her defense of "so gay" as harmless.

  13. I recall feeling the same way when the episode aired.
Thanks for jumping in for those of us who took offense, Andy!

  14. Just a minor note, "lame" can be offensive in the same way "retarded" and "gay" is, it's making fun of the disabled.

  15. May I suggest the ladies use "That's so Italian!" when describing something stupid and unwanted?

    (Thanks, Danielle)

  16. The New jersey gals on show are ignorant to their "innocent" slurs -- they would most likely still say "jew 'em down" at a garage sale.

  17. What kills me is that if you watch the show, both Dina and Caroline have a gay brother. And Dina's assistant is gay. So why wouldn't they understand how annoying and offensive that is? They are simply not wanting to give Danielle credit for anything because she is a PROSTITUTION WHORE! :)

I went back and forth with Danielle - I think she's as fake as her Lee Press-Ons, but I do remember thinking it was awesome she went after Teresa's gorilla husband for his stupid comments.

Does anyone know if they discussed why Teresa's hairline is always trying to eat her face?

    Posted by: Alex | Jun 19, 2009 6:28:18 PM

  18. Did anyone mention Caroline's son Albie? SO CUTE & NOT GAY? Hmmm?

  19. you know it's a fucked up Real Housewives season when someone like Danielle seems to be the only decent one in the lot?

and yah Andy Cohen is adorable :D

  20. Joe, Teresa's husband, said that the dance instructor was "so gay." He did look gay (and handsome). I didn't think it was offensive in that context. In the 1-hour special "the Last Supper," Teresa confronts Danielle about it. She was offended that Danielle had accused her husband of being homophobic. She also implied that she had gay friends, and told Danielle that her husband was very comfortable around gay men. Danielle is a nut. She was starting shit…again. PAY ATTENTION PUHHHLEASE.

  21. Joe also said "gaylord" as a slur at the dance studio. He is one no-necked babboon looking bastard. I love that Teresa pays for big ticket items in hundred dollar bills like Carmella Soprano. genius

  22. Frankie - give me a break. I've seen the episode three times. Whether the guy was gay or handsome is irrelevant. Anyone with a baboon's brain could tell he was being insulting when he referred to it as "gay."

    Trash.

  23. "Everyone in Jersey says it."

This is the reason why I was dreading this show. Please know that all of New Jersey does not suck this hard. Most people in that TOWN don't suck that hard. Kudos to Danielle for sticking up for something she believes in when she could have just let it go.

  24. Danielle all the way. That Teresa pig is as ignorant as they come...I also think she looks and sounds like a pre teen mentally disabled prostitute. I'm SICK of hearing about people justifying their homophobia by saying "well, I HAVE A GAY FRIEND" BULL! Just because you have a gay friend doesn't make you immune to being a low life ignorant trashy low classy pig (Teresa!)

  25. the problem is most people are prejudiced and use derogatory slurs toward 'others' and many don't even think about it

    I like what RJP3 said

Some people only get upset when its something concerning them.
