The New Yorker embraces hatemonger and birther nut radio host Michael Savage. Media Matters: "Savage doesn't preach hate. (That's so cliché, people.) Instead, the host merely engages in some old-fashioned 'rabble rousing.' Sure, he broadcasts an 'antipathy for liberals.' And yes, he does show flashes of an 'immoderate' and 'incendiary style.' But deep down, Savage is really just a throwback to 'garrulous old-school New York radio personalities.' In fact, Savage isn't all that much different than famed shock jock Howard Stern. Besides, The New Yorker loves the 'counter-culture feel' of Savage's program."

  1. Re: New Yorker article on M.Savage -- the author is obviously a shill for the wingnuts on the right. He didn't report what Savage spews nightly on his show. (He did quote the MSNBC vitriol when Savage told a caller to "get AIDS and die!", right before he was fired from the TV network.) But the article was so overwhelmingly positive to the hatemonger radio host that it made me sick.

I've been a New Yorker reader for over 40 years (okay, I'm a troll!) and this was one of the worse pieces of writing I have ever read in the magazine. I would not call it journalism but "promotion".

  2. "A musical circus film" profiling P.T. Barnum? Wow, that is really far down on any potential list of films I might ever wish to see.

  3. The original Colombian telenovela for Ugly Betty wasn't designed just to put an "ugly duckling" woman among models, but to have her become a swan and end the series romantically with her boss. The makeover for Betty on ABC's version suggests to me this show is heading for its end.

  4. Well Paul, if Hugh Jackman takes off his shirt, I'll watch it.

  5. Mike, I was going to mention something along those lines, but the secret sex life of PT Barnum just made me laugh. But I do wonder if they'll manage a shirtless scene.
