Joe Wilson Speaks About 'Liar' Outburst; Obama Accepts Apology

Joe_wilson

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) talked to the press about his outburst at Obama during last night's joint session of Congress.

Watch, AFTER THE JUMP...

Since the outburst, angered Americans have raised nearly $150,000 $450,000 for his opponent Rob Miller. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she considered gaveling the congressman out of order "but decided against calling out the South Carolina Republican in front of a national audience," according to Politico. Some wingnuts are trying to argue that Wilson's outburst was provoked by the stress of having four kids in the military.

Senator Arlen Specter has called for the censure of Wilson.

Obama said he has accepted Wilson's apology: "I'm a big believer that we all make mistakes."

  3. It is actually over $425,000 raised since the outburst. Rob Miller had around $2,500 on Act Blue at the time of the speech. He has over $430,000 now. http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/19079

  4. This is not an apology and the obfuscation of the issue of the application of healthcare reform to illegal aliens by making reference to rightly rejected amendments requiring "citizenship verification" before healthcare could be provided is a canard. Does he really want someone to bleed to death in the waiting room of a hospital if their visa has expired or their parents brought them across the border as children? Ludicrous!

    He should be censured.

  5. The Dems should have as much mercy toward him as the Republicans would if the situation was reversed: bupkis.

  6. Of course he should be censured.

  7. And so soon after Van Jones...! If us Dems were a little less wimpy, and a bit more mobilized, this goon would be on a fast plane back to the woods he came from... and be made an example of the dangers of the right wing on democratic America. Instead, its 'turn the other cheek/bend over' and accept that he 'made a mistake'. He didn't make a mistake - he got carried away in his insanity - and he is supposed to be one of the people making decisions for all Americans! Phooey.

  8. For all of you who are thinking of donating to Rob Miller, you might want to be a little wary--Miller apparently describes himself as a "social conservative". I would love to know his positions on DOMA, DADT and marriage equality, but unfortunately his website does not play well with my Mac.

  9. Wilson's a racist.

A major Jesse Helms supporter he had a shit fit, when after Helms' death Essie Mae Washington, the issue of Helms' rape of his black maid, stepped forward and told her story.

He also wanted the Confederate Flag to fly over the state capitol in South Carolina.

  10. Well, Democrats, it is a little too late for censure now isn't it?

I mean, really, Pelosi just doesn't have the gravitas for political theatre. She's always nervous and timid. How hard would it have been to stand up, and say something to the follow effect?

    "Order, Order.

The gentleman from South Carolina will suspend immediately or remove himself from the House. The president is here to give an important policy address. The country wants to hear it. And so do I.

    (nod to Obama) Mr. President..."

  11. Joe Wilson can't help what he says: His opinions are not a choice, he was just born that way!

Posted by: James in Charlotte | Sep 10, 2009 5:15:30 PM

  12. not to be nitpicky,David, but...Essie Mae Washington is the daughter of Strom Thurmond Not Jesse Helms. But yes, Wilson is pretty much a jerk.

  13. And to David and Vinny, Joe Wilson used to be an aide to Strom Thurmond. Of course he's a racist.

He's also scared out of his frigging mind, because with two words he has royally screwed himself and even his crazy party realizes the magnitude of what he's done.

By the way, Wilson and his entire family all have government-run health care provided by both Congress and the military.

  14. Look how nervous he is. A lot of scrutiny is coming his way. Sure hope there's nothing to hide. Wonder if the Daily Show had dug up any video of A*hole Joe from a few years ago admonishing Democrats for not giving W the respect and honor an American President deserves? Surely not. South Carolina, aye? Could he be a fan of the Appalachian Trail?

  15. His comments were inappropriate in that forum. However, is what he blurted out correct? Was Obama lying in his statement that those unlawfully residing in the US would not be able to participate in the proposed health care plan???

    Posted by: Luke | Sep 10, 2009 6:18:53 PM

  16. Luke:
just read section 246 of of HR3200. it EXPLICITLY states "NO FEDERAL PAYMENTS FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENTS."

i don't know how much more clear it can be than that.

    Posted by: alguien | Sep 10, 2009 6:34:28 PM

  17. Luke, what he blurted out was a lie. The Federal government will not open coverage to illegal aliens and will not pay for costs incurred by treating same.

  18. Is it true that Joe Wilson already had a copy of the health care speech behind it was formally delivered by Obama? If so, this "outburst" would not seem to have been so spontaneous anymore.

  19. correction... "...a copy of the health care speech BEFORE it was formally...

  20. I guess in his Jerry Springer world, he confused Congress with the Springer studio audience. These Reps have more crackers in them than a Keebler factory.

  21. Joe Wilson

    - member of sons of confederate veterans a hot bed group of secessionists who defend slavery as a benign institution

    - 1 of only 7 repub state legislators to vote to keep the confederate flag flying over the SC capitol

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/9/10/780069/-The-newest-Republican-hero

Turns out his disrespect of the validly elected President of the USA was not due to party affiliation, his corporate masters hating HCR, or anything other than simple racism

Joe Willson hates the USA having a non white President

His DEM challenger has now raised $300,000+ in a little less than 24 hours

    Posted by: jimmyboyo | Sep 10, 2009 7:04:11 PM

  22. PS

with it looking pretty obvious that Joe Willson is a racist who reacted the way he did due to racism.............You know he hates Jews "jeeeeebusssss kialllars!" and probably dreams of lynching our "fairy" asses

Come on LCR crowd, defend him

    Posted by: jimmyboyo | Sep 10, 2009 7:14:01 PM

  23. For any foreign or uninformed readers, please note that US policy currently requires public hospitals to treat emergency room victims regardless of national heritage or ability to pay.

And Jimmyboyo, the total is closer to $500K!
