Seven Arrested for 'Homosexual Activity' in the Maldives

The Maldives Police Service has reported the arrests of seven men for engaging in homosexual activity, Haveeru reports:

Maldives "Police said that they had been arrested based on information the Police had received. Each person was arrested separately and all are between the ages of 20 and 50, Police said. A resident of the island said on Monday that the seven people belonged to the 'same network' and that the two oldest among them were Imams of the two district mosques in the island. He further said that one of them was no longer a practicing Imam and that they were conducting their activities inside a house belonging to one of those who had been arrested. 'There have been rumours about their activities for a long, long time now,' the resident of the island, who wished to remain anonymous, said. 'However, it finally came out into the open when a video of their activities was leaked.'"

Authorities are on the look-out for others in the "network", the website reports...

  1. Can't wait for this place to get swallowed up by the ocean.

  2. This is the island chain that has been complaining so loudly about how global warming was going to put them under water soon. I used to be sympathetic. Now I am beginning to think, the sooner the better.

  3. Ya maybe mother nature needs to do us all a favor and wipe those ignorant bastards out into the sea.

  4. I was going to mention how they now need our help, but others have beat me to it. As devout Muslims they must accept the will of Allah in wiping them off the map.

  5. Keep in mind that they are not all bad people.

  6. I saw a story on the Maldives last night, and was saddened that the island nation would soon be underwater thanks to global warming. But, now
I feel like going out and starting up my Ford Expedition and just letting it idle all day.

  7. While the Maldives government has engaged in reprehensible behavior and is certainly wrong...

If this were, say, Venice, I doubt people here would have the same "let them die" reaction.

And yes, the Italian government of Silvio Berlusconi is extremely anti-gay. As some of you might recall, his culture minister - Rocco Buttiglione- was the fellow who declared that "the faggots are destroying Europe" in front of Parliament after his appointment to the European Commission was vetoed by other EU countries. Buttiglione wasn't the only homophobe in Il Duce's cabinet either. But since we're talking about a Western nation from which many Americans claim full or partial ancestry, I guess that means all is instantly forgiven.

  8. So sad about the rise in ocean levels that will sink the Maldives. Not wait - not so sad after all.

  10. The reference that they were in the same "network" is reminiscent of here in the US when news accounts once referred to the existence of homosexual "rings" being "uncovered". The idea was that gays were not even supposed to have friends, and if they did, it was an illegal "ring". THis was all in the news when I was in high school and college in the late '60s and early '70s on the East Coast. Now we are getting marriage in some places. In some ways, this has been painfully slow, but in other ways, it has moved faster than I ever dreamed that it would. I hope that the international community pressures the Maldives.

  11. The Maldives is an island nation completely depedent rich westerners (mainly Europeans) who go there to do very little for a week or three. The only thing to do is scuba diving or entertain yourself under the hot sun on their gorgeous empty beaches.

The Islands are so small you can walk around them in about 10 or 15 minutes. One resort to an island and all staffed by locals.

The vast majority of the 1190 islands are uninhabited and those that are (200) are devoted to tourism. Most of the 300,000 native Madivians live on the "big" island in the capital Mahe and are peaceful and fiendly people. But hey, cunts exist everywhere, right?

And, and shocking as this may be, some of the resorts go out of their way to welcome us mo's.

Why give people of the world even more of a reason to hate Americans by say thing like you can't wait for the final tide to wash over the people of the Maldives - now that is cunty.

Let's face it, very few of YOU have passports because you ain't exactly big travellers are you - bar cruising.

  12. Well, I've been to the Maldives 5 times on vacation. Last time I met two gay couples on the island I stayed on (which makes it 20% gay given the miniscule size of that island). Stupid move on part of the Maldivian government - this country is totally dependent on well-off western tourists and anything they do to get bad publicity is dumb.

  13. Having been to the Maldives, I can tell you that it is the most beautiful place I have ever been, and that the people are the nicest people I have experienced traveling. They're generally uneducated and have little interaction with gay people, so cut them a little slack; They just don't know better and they don't deserve the hatred being spewed by very educated people on this blog.

  14. BTW, the reason gays can enjoy themselves on the tourist islands and drink alcohol and break every Islamic law is because that Islamic law is suspended on those islands. So a small percentage of the population is exposed to this kind of thing, but very few Western gays ever step foot on the island of Male, where 90% of the population lives.

  15. Well, it is certainly disappointing to see that homosexuals are so uninformed and lacking in curiosity as to have not bothered to have waded through the 10 years worth of data leaked from East Anglia which draws considerable doubt on the issue of whether the seas are rising at any significant pace at all. Alas, the bigots on the Maldives may not receive their just deserts for several thousand years.

  16. Let me guess: There officially are no gays in The Maldives; that's just a foreign infidel perversion.

  17. Right, Brandon - I think some of the earlier posters will need another map to be able to locate East Anglia - mo's live there too by the way and it another very flat low lying area.

Actually they probably don't even know where Copenhagen is. Unless that is, they saw the CO2 cube on Towelroad recently - NO, they will probably need another map, with a very big arrow pointing at it.

  20. And as for you John In Boston-- it takes one to know one?

  21. "...Well, it is certainly disappointing to see that homosexuals are so uninformed and lacking in curiosity as to have not bothered to have waded through the 10 years worth of data leaked from East Anglia..."

Yes of course: More jack-assery from a stupid republican Limbutt listener who didn't understand the science BEFORE the "email leaks", and still doesn't understand the NONSTORY those emails actually are.

You do realize that the other 99.9999997 percent of research on Global warming has not changed because of this? Right?

Yes Virginia, there is a place for Morons on earth, I just wish they'd keep their ignorant mouths shut.

  22. Did I not read the same news piece? Two of the people arrested were Imams, hardly "foreign infidel"s. This is probably something much more politics related than appears on the surface and highlights how homosexuality is used as a scapegoat for modern day witch hunts in places where it is still so intensely taboo- look at the US military for example.

  23. Well Hello John in Boston.

    Yes, is sounds completely familiar.

Particularly after reading the first 4 comments on this page, which I must admit, made it very easy for me to feel grandiose, and make sweeping generalisations like Gods tend to do.

At least up here on Pompous Mountain I'm a long way from the fragile coast. The view from here is Fanfuckintastic.

  24. As a Maldivian, im ashamed to see such backward thinking still being carried out by the more "democratic" government that is apparently running my country now.

Also, i would like to point out that not all Maldivians are as backward thinking as this article has led the majority of the people commenting on this into thinking.

as in were all not dickheads! to the less articulate of you :)
