  2. It was great to be there last night and listen to her acceptance speech. The crowd was diverse and it was a good reflection of everyone who helped to get her elected. It was very moving.

  3. For those on this blog who have constantly bashed Texas politics wait ... here it comes ... Houston is the largest city to elect an openly gay candidate as mayor. Yes, we do some things right in Texas. Congrats to Parker for her victory.

  4. This is tuly a milestone. In Houston of all places, the virulently homophobic rhetoric failed, and a gay candidate was elected on merit. Congratulations Annise!

  5. YeeHaw! See folks, my homestate ain't all that bad. Ya'll c'mon down and we'll have a good ole fajita cookout to celebrate the occasion.

Seriously, CONGRATULATIONS Annise! We need more visible leaders just like you. One step backwards for racist fucks like Gov. Rick Perry and one giant leap for the GLBT community!

  9. She's amazing... and everyone knows that a lesbian is gonna do a hell of a job... I know in a life-threatening situation, I'd want a lesbian to have my back. And not only that, but girl's got some style... check out that glittering gold metallic jacket, and the use of the Neutraface font on her campaign signs... she's got some cool gay men in her team, that's for sure! Go Houston!

  10. Keith : That's why gays in Manhattan, San Francisco, Vermont, and a few other places HATE news like this. It goes against everything they've already decided to pretend amongst themselves about the way things are.

  11. Speak for yourself, JT. This gay guy in VT LOVES news like this. So much for that presumption.

  12. b4 every1 gets all cheery about taxas, they should be reminded that the metropolitan areas have been fairly liberal for a while. dallas has elected a black male dem and a white female dem as mayor, san antonio has a 36 y.o. latino dem mayor whose twin brother is in the texas lege, austin has been lib for quite some time. however, texas helped "dubya" defeat ann richards and foisted him onto the u.s. and the world. most of texas is very red-neck conservative. just like georgia and louisiana belie the liberal nature of their large cities, so does texas.
