As HRC's Guest Star, Kathy Griffin to Lobby 'Big Queen' Majority Whip Jim Clyburn on 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'

Kathy Griffin, who is appearing for the Human Rights Campaign tomorrow at a "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" rally on Capitol Hill, called House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) a "big queen" in remarks to Roll Call:

Clyburn

“I’m meeting with this big queen named Jim Clyburn,” Griffin, who is in Washington this week to lobby for an end to the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, told HOH. “I’m going to be the first person to ever walk into his office and go, ‘Hey, girl!’”

...

“Congress is homophobic, but I don’t think the American people are,” she says. She plans to ask attendees of the rally to send a three-sentence e-mail to their Members of Congress urging them to act quickly, or face some ticked-off voters in November.

Hopefully HRC is instructing Griffin to urge President Obama to pressure Congress to act on 'Don't As, Don't Tell' instead of just urging folks to email Congress. As we know, Congress is "muddled" on the issue and needs leadership to force them to act.

Via Joe Sudbay at Americablog, who writes: "Yes, it's funny to you and me when Kathy Griffin insults members of Congress by calling them 'big queens.' It's a dumb way to lobby on DADT."

  1. Actually, calling congress a bunch of "big queens" isn't a dumb way to lobby against DADT, it's the most appropriate method I can think of. Kudos, Kathy!

  3. @Andy no shit.

Joe Sudbay being a boring, humorless stick in the mud is why I'm growing so weary of Americablog.

Congress has enough ass kissing and placating by the useless HRC and GLADD. They need someone to call them out on how foolish they are being. Ending DADT is a no fucking brainer behind the humanitarian reasons for doing it. Huge majorities of the population are for it and even huger majorities of Democrats.

  4. You may or may not agree with her methods, but she is definitely a lightning rod and gets attention. And that's what this issue needs for America to wake the hell up and get over the whole GAY issue.

    Homophobia is so early 90s.

  5. What an idiot. She really has gone too far...I just don't get the "big queen" reference?? Sarcasm? Bad Joke?

Jim Clyburn is our ALLY and he's the third ranking democrat in the House. He's a good man.

  6. Never send a child....

There are many options between Griffin's verbal diarhea and ass kissing.

Now the issue becomes not DADT but whether Clyburne is gay or not, whether she should have said it regardless, celebrities playing politics blah blah blah....

Let's send that killer whale from Florida to DC next...

  8. This is a HRC media event more than a Rally/Lobby. Let's get real here. i want to say I love Kathy but I can't fault her for being her. HRC on the other hand unless they have been living in a trailer park knows EXACTLY what her schtict is. kathy will have her D-List camera's in tow and it will get HRC attention in the gay community outside the cities since Kathy's show has a mostly gay audience an they probably hope it will lead to extra donations. And I'll bet anything that media whore Solmonsleaze will have a cameo.

  10. Andy, do you feel OK? Maybe you'd better sit down and have an aspirin or something, because you simply cannot be fucking serious! Kathy Griffin as a Gay Rights lobbyist? It's a Republican reactionary's wet dream.
