Mickey Rourke to Play Gay Rugby Legend Gareth Thomas?

Rourke_thomas

Mickey Rourke has met with openly gay rugby star Gareth Thomas in hopes of portraying him in a biopic, Wales on Sunday reports:

Thomas  "The actor got in touch with the Crusaders star after reading about his life story and deciding he was 'the perfect model' for a film, the player’s management have revealed. The managers of both The Wrestler star and the Bridgend-born 35-year-old are now trying to thrash out a deal to get a movie of the life of Wales’ most-capped international onto the big screen. The pair met for the first time last week at the filming of Jonathan Ross’ last BBC chat show, where Rourke was a guest. A spokesman for Thomas’ management company told Wales on Sunday: 'Mickey Rourke is a big rugby fan and was flying to New York from London recently when he read an article about Gareth and thought he would be the perfect model for a film.  Mickey contacted Gareth directly via a mutual friend in rugby league to express his interest and invited Gareth to watch the Jonathan Ross show and to meet him for dinner afterwards.' Oscar-nominated actor Rourke, 57 – who is a trained boxer – is believed to have been keen to do a film about rugby for some time. But before discovering Thomas’ story he was not sure about how to find an angle for the project."

  3. Not unless this movie takes place 20 years in the future after Gareth has had multiple botched plastic surgery procedures. Ewww. No.

  4. Is he really serious? No way! Mickey Rourke can be his father in the movie...

    Maybe Jason Statham?

  5. I think it's very flattering, but Mickey is too old now for the role. Yeah, maybe the father role, or coach or something else.

  7. How about Vin Diesel? Of course playing the gay role would not be that much of a stretch for him~

  8. I agree NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Mickey is an old mess, Gareth is a vital young athlete. How about getting someone who can do Gareth has done, which is present a great role model for younger athletes and gay men in general.

I with the Jason Statham crowd.

  9. Good grief! This reminds of of Joan taking over for Christina.

"paging Joan Borman Kane, paging Joan Borman Kane" "Please come back to reality".

  11. Perfect. And after that perhaps Mo'Nique can star in the Venus Williams biopic.

  12. Jason is hot and does share some resemblance, But he is an aweful actor. Brit, Tom Hardy (33) is better suited for the role. He has already shown with roles in Bronson, Layer Cake and most resently Inception that he is one of the very few action stars that can act.

  13. Not a fan, but Mickey could probably pull it off. He was amazing in the wrestler.

  14. i'll go w/ tom hardy. just saw him in "inception" and he's a major hotty. good actor too.

  15. What the hell. Sure, they're both as ugly as sin (I'd still bend over for Gareth Thomas) but I don't see how this could possibly work.

  16. TROUT POUT

  17. Allowing Rourke to have anything to do with a Gareth Thomas movie would be a mistake of Deepwater Horizon proportions.

  18. Next up, "The Life of Brad Pitt" starring the Elephant Man's bones!

I can't imagine why Alfie and his team are even considering this. Didn't Rourke recently make headlines for letting loose a disgustingly homophobic screed against some random pap, or something like that?

  19. Was GT's life all that interesting? Is there a book out about him?

  20. Aaaaghhh nooooo! How on earth would Rourke deal with Gareth's lyrical Welsh accent? How would he look young, vital, athletic and untouched by the hands of a marauding plastic surgeon?? Or, is this an idea for a horror movie in which Gareth's body is taken over by an alien zombie with bad skin and made to speak in a strange, garbled foreign tongue, while his fans turn away from him until the alien invader is excorcised from poor Gareth's body and the beast is once again replaced by the beauty??? Less Welsh epic "How Green Was My Valley?" and more shocker "Nightmare on Rugbyville Street"....

Gareth needs US to campaign for this Not To Happen!!!

I swear it on my mother's grave! And, he ain't a day older than Bawbwa Stweisand. I swear it!

  24. will a story based of this dude's life be really that interesting to tell though?

  25. I'd much rather see Gareth in a movie about himself, personally.
