News: Gay Farmers, Buffy, Target, Lady Gaga, Sarah Palin

road I hope the new Buffy the Vampire line of Jones soda doesn't taste like blood.

road Au coeur des familles agricoles is a small non-profit that includes a club for gay farmers. Says one: "'We share personal stories, but mostly we discuss farming and agriculture,' Lampron said about the club, which will be represented in Montreal's gay pride parade next month for the first time by a few members who will be riding a tractor. 'It's great because we face similar challenges as both farmers and gay people living in rural regions -and we don't need to explain ourselves.'"

road 17 killed at so-called "love parade."

road Target helps fund anti-gay Republican pol Tom Emmer in Minnesota? "Follow the money: Target gave $150,000 to Minnesota Forward, which bought TV ads for Tom Emmer, who says "I believe marriage is the union between one man and one woman," and who hangs out with a guy who thinks killing gays is moral."

 road Seagull hate = homophobia.

road Gay discrimination suit where an elderly man was not allowed to se his dying partner is settled. He was awarded $600,000.

road Names of some of the sessions offered by the Truth About Homosexuality event next month: “From gay pride to gay tyranny," “The ‘born gay hoax," “The battle over blood: ‘gay’ health risks and public policy," “Corrupting children, politicizing schools: the homosexual youth agenda," “Combating pro-homosexual media bias, confronting pro-gay ‘conservatives’," “From destroying DOMA to homosexualizing the military: Obama’s radical homosexual/transsexual agenda for America.”

The really hasn't been much of a summer in LA this year.

road Nico Tortorella does MF magazine.

road Somehow Sarah Palin rendered in over the top tabloid, Tawainese CGI is much less ridiculous than the real thing.

road Russell Brand makes an ugly Katy Perry.

road Some interesting stats on Apps.

road Remember this kid? Well, he finally got to meet Lady Gaga in person.

road Hate: Openly gay candidate's posters spray-painted with gay slur in Florida.

road Best complaint I've heard so far about not being invited to a wedding. Said one person of Chelsea Clinton's nuptials: “I’m good enough to borrow a plane from, but not good enough to be invited to the wedding?”

road Wow. Pilot ejects seconds before his jet crashes at an air show in Canada.

  2. The wedding invite complaint makes me laugh. Yes, the Bill or Hillary Clinton borrowed a plane from you and if THEY were getting married, they'd probably owe you a ticket, but for God's sake, it's CHELSEA's WEDDING and she is under no obligation to invite everyone of her parents' political allies or even close friends. Good for the Clintons for allowing Chelsea to control the guest list (though, no doubt, plenty of political considerations have been made even still) of her OWN wedding. I've been to too many DC weddings in the last 10 years where the guest list reads like a dinner party for the parents and has little to do with the child. I even went to one where the bride barely knew her maid of honor. I know a lot of people love or hate the Clinton (parents) for probably very good reasons, but, at the end of the day, this ain't about them (any more than reality will demand it be).

  3. NOOOOO, don't tell me that Minnesota story is true about Tar-jay. As a Canadian I just shopped there for the first time in my life last week, and will be kicking myself. Goddammit I knew those deals were too good to be true and I was right.

  4. Ya know (and ya probly don't), we do have enough information on crowd psychology (e.g., if one person in a densely populated crowd falls, it creates chain reaction of dominos), to avoid 17 deaths like germany's so-called "love" whatever. The organizers are responsible for this. cut their dicks and make their family's watch (because we have enough information to know that that works, too!)! LOL!

  6. Wow, looks like I've spent my last dollar at Target. That is truly disgusting news.

  7. Target, as an employer, is scummy in many ways. They mark you down on a yearly review for things you NEVER heard were a problem prior to the review; then when you make that point, and the mgr agrees with you, NOTHING is done to correct it. So, as a company, to their employees, they could be better. In three years, I've gotten a collective 25 cent raise and that's with decent (3 out of a scale of 5) reviews. So belive me, they piss me off on MANY levels. Plus, they keep the AC way to high in the summer so it is not very comfortable to work there temp-wise.

HOWEVER, Target is a gay-friendly company for the most part. They do give to GLBT causes and no one has to worry about their job if they Come Out or already start "out." Where I work, there are MANY gay people, the ex-HR person was lesbian and we once had a transgendered lady working right up front for many years. No one is ever told to not be themselves. AND they do offer same-sex couple benefits.

You can write to them and complain; but realize that there are just as many people [on the opposite end] who will applaud this action. If you do write they can most likely give you a list of GLBT cause they have donated to. I would definitely write, if that is your way of speaking up and out, but, at least, be aware of other facts. It's a double edged sword because they have very loyal guests [their word for customers] on both sides of the political coin.

Think of your alternatives for shopping: Wal-mart which single-handedly has negatively affected capitalism with their "Do it our way or we don't buy from you" business practices and is BY NO MEANS an even gay-tolerant establishment. Or you can shop in K-mart (gag, puke, meh) with it's...well it's K-mart for fuck's sake.

Of all these retailers, Target has always been my main establishment for shopping, well before I ever worked for them; I literally cringe when I walk into the others. Hopefully this little bit of info gives you additional facts that may be helpful.
