FOX News Parent, News Corp, Gives $1 Million to Republican Governors Association

Rupert-MurdochBen Smith at Politico reports:

"The company's media outlets play politics more openly than most, but the huge contribution to a party committee is a new step toward an open identification between Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. and the GOP. The company's highest-ranking Democratic executive, Peter Chernin, recently departed. The $1 million contribution this June 24 was first reported by Bloomberg and appears on the RGA's July 15 filing with the Internal Revenue Service...News Corp. Spokesman Jack Horner emails, 'News Corporation believes in the power of free markets, and the RGA’s pro-business agenda supports our priorities at this most critical time for our economy.' The giant check to the RGA dwarfs low four-figure checks from Fox's PAC to Democrats including Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer."

Does Horner's position sound familiar?

  1. So much for the lie that Rupert is ideologically to the left of his network.

  4. What's sad about this story is that it doesn't have anything to do with politics. Horner's statement makes it clear that all Fox Corporation cares about is the bottom line ("free markets," "pro-business," "our economy"). Basically, they're paying to keep GOPers in office because it generates news, which generates revenue.

  7. Can we know say that Fox News is really not a news organization but is now officially a propaganda arm of the Republican Party ?

  8. Catlin, stop. Reverse that. The Republican Party is now the official political arm of Fox News.

  9. One wonders if we have it wrong in perceiving NewsCorp (Faux News, etc.) as the Republican Mouthpiece... seems instead to me that the Republicans are merely the political foot soldiers for NewsCorp! $1 Million donated to the Republican Governors Association? Talk about 'Buy, Buy Love'!
