Glenn Beck And Sarah Palin Hold Rally To 'Restore Honor'

Beck
What was the point of today's Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin rally in which tens of thousands of Tea Party supporters swarmed the Lincoln Memorial in DC? No one, including Palin or Beck, seemed to really know. There was lots of talk about “restoring honor” but what that means exactly is still unclear.

The New York Times reports on the event:

“For too long, this country has wandered in darkness,” Mr. Beck said Saturday. “This country has spent far too long worrying about scars and thinking about scars and concentrating on scars. Today, we are going to concentrate on the good things in America, the things that we have accomplished, and the things that we can do tomorrow.”

Mr. Beck was followed on stage by Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate and former Alaska governor, who said she was asked, in keeping with the theme of the day, not to focus on politics but to speak as the mother of a soldier.

CBS News has a rundown of Palin's speech at the rally.

Sp "You have the same steel spine and the moral courage of Washington and Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr.," Palin added. She said it was "humbling" to be with the "patriots" who had gathered for the rally, people who understand "to never retreat."

Palin said Americans will always be successful because they are guided by grace. "We will always come through, we will never give up and we shall endure," the former Alaska governor said as a "U-S-A" chant broke out.

There's been much commotion about Beck's decision to hold the rally on the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have a Dream" speech. Beck seemingly tried to deflect some of that backlash by inviting King's niece, Alveda King, to speak at the event. You may recall that she was also invited by NOM to speak at their Atlanta tour stop.

Al Sharpton led a counter protest event close nearby. Sharpton told the crowd: "Don't let anyone tell you that they have the right to take their country back. It's our country, too...They may have the mall, but we have the message. They may have the platform, but we have the dream."

  1. And what is that supposed to mean, bobby? The fact is that we don't have a reliable number of people who showed up because those numbers stopped being taken in '95. But the fact remains that this is a well established propagandist tool to sustain the illusion of broadbased mainstream support when it simply doesn't exist. And 300K people does not broadbased support equal in a country of three hundred million.

Also, the issue does matter (some issues are simply superior to others, and more important). So if 300K people showed up for a gay rights rally (civil equality rally), it would, in fact, be a great thing because all causes aren't equal. And there really isn't a cause here other than fomenting the groundless hostilities of extremely ignorant unhappy people whose lives just didn't work out as they wanted, and telling them that their fears are justified in some way, and all in the name of profit for beck, palin, and the rest of the professional right.

At least the most of the great propagandists of history weren't just in it for personal gain...which makes their efforts all the more pathetic, and their abilities all the more shabby. Hitler, for example, desired world domination...more than money. Stalin wanted to make himself god...more than money. You can be greatful that their "vision" doesn't exceed dollar signs, and that even if it were to (e.g., palin) that they're far too incompetent to execute its fulfillment.

  2. Ok, time to send some free-speech "liberals" into an apoplectic rage. I would gladly take Beck, Palin, and all their Christians over Obama and his Saudi-funded 9/11 victory mosque any day.

Hysterical cries of "racism!" in 3... 2... 1...

  3. Actually we 'do' need to watch this group and their ilk, very, very closely. Hitler did not 'start' out by announcing to the German people that he was going to bring a 'world' war upon their heads, or exterminate whole nationalities of people he believed were not of the 'master race'.... he started out slowly... just. like. this.

And as far as the Rabbi... well, after all, Israel is going to initiate the second coming... so they must be placated... for now.

  4. beck and the professional right aren't hitler. I mean I hate to say it, but Hitler would wipe the floor with these "pundits". We don't need to watch these extremist fringe morons closely. The mainstream should be as concerned with the teapartiers (a totally disorganized alagamation of disgruntled older racist whites spouting oft incoherent and otherwise absurd corporate interests)...they pose no threat, because they have no coherent ideology.

  5. Aleabeth, I find it laughable that you equate Beck to Hitler when anti-Semitism is arguably the most prominent feature of the left. All you have to do is say the word "Israel" and "liberals" start frothing and spewing their predictable filth and bile. Try it.

  6. Sadly....frighteningly...what he means by 'Restoring Honor' is RELIGION! He has said it on his show many times, that the 'only hope' now for fixing this country is 'god!'
    DE-LU-SION-AL!
Oh, a personal observation--I think someone misspelled that saying on our money....it should be 'In GOLD We Trust!'
    ^^X^^

  7. It wasn't tens of thousands, it was hundreds of thousands. Why does this post have to be a lie from the very first sentence?

  8. Whole lot of stupid going on in Washington. Just remember that this lunacy is what's going to be driving the country into the ground, given enough apathy from liberals, progressives, and sane people. Don't let them take the reins again; twenty-eight years was enough.

  9. The left doesn't know propaganda. I...was born with the ability to sell anything to anyone. They don't get the mindset. However, the teaparty (and that's what this is), is no threat...they are a disorganized mass of idiots.

  11. I very much agree with John as to there being something reminiscent of the 30s. I would reccomend (if it is still in print) that people read Sinclair Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here". It is a frightening novel that predicts such people as Beck and Palin and their ilk.

  12. Total retard live. This is about Glen Beck's bank account and nothing else.

Without Lazyboy recliners with drink holders they all probably got tired and cranky. Given there is no Cracker Barrel or Hardees on The Mall they all probably slipped into diabetic comas halfway through the speech.

Karen Finley's got nothing on this guy. All he needs to do now is smear chocolate all over his naked body and have his National Endowment for the Arts grant revoked.

    Next performance artist please!

  13. @MAX why do you suppose, then, that most jews are liberal democrats. if you are trying to pick a fight here, you are really, really not worth the effort. why don't you go suck beck's dick or plow palin's cunt?

  14. First of all... I don't remember mentioning Beck or Palin or any 'one' individual in my comment at all... I said their 'group' needs to be watched... and those 'like' them.

And as far as using Hitler as an example... it was an 'analogy' on how the 'masses' can be brainwashed, fooled, bamboozled... [enter what ever euphemism you want here]... into believing just about anything. And like lemmings, following straight off a cliff.

Hitler started with building up the German Worker's party and capitalizing on the growing sense of National Pride...

... what has been the Repubs byline in the past... what is the header for this rally... what did Palin keep saying over and over and over again in her speech [ad nauseum]?

Next step, what was plaguing Germany at the time? The economy... and where's ours?

Now, who does Hitler blame for this? Why none other than the "internationalist" Jew's and Slavs [read: Immigrants]

Then, start demonizing them. [um... excuse me, but what 'exactly' is the homosexual agenda???]

Does any of this sound familiar???

Maybe the individuals around NOW don't have the same charisma as Hitler [because that's the only thing that little fuck had going for him] but the foundation is there and it's growing.

  15. Bobby- I noticed the pastor saying "you, oh Gods" as well. You're the only post I can find on the internet who questioned this. Does anyone know who this pastor is? I found it very disturbing. There is only ONE GOD!!!

    Posted by: Angie | Aug 29, 2010 11:18:03 AM

  16. Angie - You forgot about Odin. And Zeus. and Amun. And Baal. And many, many others who were also worshipped at the same time as Yahweh -- and who likewise have never been proven not to exist. LOL! Of course, I'm not suggesting Beck (a man who believes the Garden of Eden was in the U.S.) or his lapdog preacher, knows this.

I find it amusing that Christians who cite the 10 Commandments (10 out of the 613 total) fail to notice that their god requires that they have "no other god before me." That acknowledges there ARE other gods -- and demands that their god comes first. This is historically accurate. Check it out before you start screaming.

    You were right on cue.

  19. The unfortunate thing about the Beck's and Palin's of the world is that the Democrats and Independent's who stay home and do not vote will put the next Republican Bush type in office again. What Bush spent on the Iraq and Afganastan(sp) wars has destroyed our economy more than the Real Estate fraud and Madofs (sp) of the world ever thought possible.

  21. Glenn Beck doing what he does best: promote Glenn Beck. Sarah doing what she does best: promote Sarah. If this movement was about restoring integrity, truth and honor, Glenn and Sarah should have stayed home.

  22. WOW why am not surprised by the ignorance and bias that radiates off of the viewers/creators of this site. I mean ALL of these people got together because they obviously hate blacks and gays and they love Hitler, that has got to be it. Right? I mean it couldn't be that the HALF WHITE HALF BLACK president is running things into ground or anything. Right? NO no no no no no, it is because the thousands and thousands and thousands of the multicultural people there hate blacks, gays, and love Hitler. Seriously? Right wing nuts right? GROW UP!!!!! Seriously, whoa is me! Are any of the people there any different form anyone who visits this site? They want there rights just like you want yours. There are no racial undertones. NO ONE IS PERFECT!! Not even the ever so innocent Democratic party. So quick to defend the party that does not do anything for the gay community and a leader who has ignored the very existence of our problems. The best thing about the rally is that it gives America a voice, a voice that we have wanted for so long and you chose to ignore your chances. So, you prey on those who want their voices heard, Are you any different from the hate mongers that have kept you quite? I don't believe you are. It is not a witch hunt, stop with this constant argument over the so called "true" meanings of their words and realize they are no different than us. Seriously..... grow up.

  23. Yeah, JD...a voice that says nothing but "guvment done took my fraydumbs!, MAH FRAYDUMBS!" bought and paid for by corporate interests like the koch brothers. These schmuckos didn't even know what cap and trade was until some corporate sponsor fed it to them and told them it was "da communisms comin' ta take ya away to commie land! Think of your fraydumbs!". This MERRIKAN history via squidbillies... A little more clarity around that reveals, "I don't like people that aren't like me, and it's obama's fault for everything...and bush was teh awesome, and had nothing to do with our current problems. And freedom and liberty for me and not for thee!" And to not overlook the racial composition of astro turfers is to bury your head in the sand. And this isn't america's voice. They don't speak on behalf of america, only a disenfranchised disgruntled, uneducated portion of it that are the useful idiots of truly evil people who hate average americans...despise them, in fact.

  24. "I would gladly take Beck, Palin, and all their Christians over Obama and his Saudi-funded 9/11 victory mosque any day."

Max, I assume you are aware that no one is more Saudi-funded than your friends at FOX news? Yep, it's true! Obama could only dream of being so cozy with the Saudis. And they at FOX all loved the mosque 6 months ago. It's only when they learned that they could score political points with it that they suddenly made it their issue du jour (shhhhhh, about their Saudi funders). But other than that, Beck and Palin are great, if condescending anti-gay sleazeball opportunists leading the sheep-like dimwitted masses are your cup of tea.

    Posted by: Ernie | Aug 30, 2010 2:23:54 AM

  25. Tank....Your whole speech there was in itself completely uneducated. You, your very self, are stereotyping. You find it ok to present bogus information but you yourself get angry when the other side does it? Me being the apparent uneducated part of the rally would like to say that you are hypocritical. You choose to believe one and only one opinion and try to fight for your so-called "cause" but in the end realizing you know absolutely nothing. I take extreme offense at being called uneducated and I will not go as far to say anything to disparage your name. I have my cause and I have my rights and I am entitled to my voice. We can go back and forth, you with your unchangeable argument and mine, so really what is the point. The point being I am entitled to my opinion and THEY ARE TOO!!!! So seriously...grow up. Educated enough for you? Now if you will excuse me I have to be "gettens to me traila" Huh, unbelievable.
