Ann Coulter: Marriage "Is Not A Civil Right – You’re Not Black"

Politico reports on Ann Coulter's appearance at Homocon in New York City last night. The event was put on by the conservative gay group GOProud, whom writer Ben Smith apty describes as "the tea party of the gay rights movement."

Ann-Coulter So what did Coulter have to say? Well, this:

Marriage “is not a civil right – you’re not black,” Coulter said to nervous laughter. She went on to note that gays are among the wealthiest demographic groups in the country.

“Blacks must be looking at the gays saying, ‘Why can’t we be oppressed like that?’”

Adds Politico: "Coulter’s talk drew a mixed response, but her presence marked the increasingly mainstream Republican embrace of gay rights. Coulter had a falling out with a conservative website that has published her, WorldNetDaily, over her attendance. 'She’s doing something important – she’s showing her base that it’s OK,' said one attendee, Michael Lucas. (Lucas also confided to a reporter, 'I wonder what Ann will think about the fact that I am the biggest producer of gay porn on the east coast and probably in the whole US.')"

Never one to turn down an offer to speak, Coulter also spoke to CBS News last week about Sarah Palin's influence: "(For Palin) to give up what she has now and run for president would be like Rush [Limbaugh] giving it up and running for president. She has more influence than a president does."

  1. "...her presence marked the increasingly mainstream Republican embrace of gay rights."

Homo says what? How does denying rights equate to embracing them? Good god, every party mentioned in this story is a giant tool.

  2. This isn't really telling us anything we didn't already know: Gay conservatives are gays with money who want to stay that way, and who don't give a shit about how anyone else is doing.

  6. cmon, it would never happen. symbiosis shows us the road to equality is disproportionate. goproud has remarkably eased the efforts for a unilateral expulsion of right wing hatred. Exposing the harm does not cause it. boy, am I happy.

  7. Oh, here we go... I've heard the argument before that marriage is not a civil right. Let's say she's correct - marriage itself is not a civil right for LGBTs. That means marriage itself is not a civil right for ANYONE. But guess what, bitch - if ANYONE has the ACCESS to marriage, then EVERYONE does. That's called equality, and equality for all Americans under the law IS a civil right. In that aspect, our struggle is EXACTLY the same as the civil rights struggles of African Americans; EXACTLY the same as the civil rights struggles for equality for women.

  8. It's nice to know that she at least will consider civil rights for blacks. Apparently Jim Crow would be hard for her to stomach.

  9. She is scum.
And so is anyone still supporting the Republican Party in 2010 - gay or straight.

  11. What about Gays "of color? Gays who are Black, Latino, Asian, etc?

Civil Rights are due humans, not particular races. To argue otherwise is racist. But Anne already knows that.

What's not clear is whether GOProud realizes this or not. I don't know which would be worse.

This GOProud crap reminds me of Joaquin Phoenix and christwire.org. Just more performance art.

  13. Michael Lucas was in attendance? WTF??!!!

It truly is about THEIR money, and who gives a f*** if it is hurting gays.

It's time to BOYCOTT MICHAEL LUCAS!

In this day, there is so much FREE porn, who needs to pay for that douche bag's company products!

  14. What's with all the, "you're not black," comments? Tell that to my boyfriend, bitch! I guess the only fags who would join the GOProuders are a bunch of rich, white, self-absorbed, "Fuck you, I got mine" types. Oh, Michael Lucas was there? Well there ya go!

  16. Let's vote. Who is the bigger scumbag: Michael Lucas or Ann Coulter?

Both are embarrassments to our society!

(Let's identify Lucas' crappy work so that we can avoid it.... what a sad person...)

  17. So does anyone know if this crowd of self-hating bastards actually applauded after her marriage comment. Why don't these idiots just take the next step and join the "ex-gay" movement? They are as about as useful.

  18. Ummm, uhhh....well if "marriage isn't a civil right" as per take-the-money-and-run Coulter

Are Oblivia du Hasbeen Coulter's protesting rants archived somewhere against the Christian right wing?

You know, those elusive long forgotten Oblivia Coulter's rants against the Christian evangenitals demanding their intellectually and spiritually based marriages be "protected"

    - protected from what, some faded flannel attired wife watching her hubby fantasize about the hot boy-boys' action down the street?

    . . . since "marriage isn't a civil right"?

  19. I can not understand why the Advocate keeps printing Lucas' (self) hating bile. They actually have him as a guest commentator quite a bit.

GOProud aren't self hating. They are actually quite pathetic. They're like the pudgy kid who lets the jocks treat him like shit just so he can hang around with him.

  20. I'm very Jeffersonian in my belief that there are certain rights that we are born with and that the government has no right to take away, so in that sense "marriage" is beyond being a "civil right", it's one of this "inalienable" rights that Jefferson spoke of.

The fact is that people have bought into this belief in mass that the government gives you rights. It does not. You are born with them. The government attempts to limit them and take them away.

No one can prevent you from marrying, the government can only attempt to limit some fucked up recognition of it. Believing that the right is yours, that they are only attempting to remove it (as opposed to granting it to you) is the best way to think about it.

No one, not a goddamn person can take away your right to marry. Go get married to who you want. THEN fight the people who try to limit a public recognition of it.

    It's a perspective thing.

We are born into a slave system. When you believe the government gives you something you buy into it. Fight them for taking it away.

  21. Gays being wealthier on average then the rest of society is a myth, it's actually the opposite, but hey, don't bother old Anne with facts. Facts gets in the way of her talking out of her ass about shit she knows nothing about.

  22. OH Please, you are all really tough behind your keyboard. Like all gays you will roll over and take what ever crumbs they give you... so stop your bitching and go make me a sandwich.

  23. All I can say is WTF were those gay conservatives thinking? Yes, you'd probably have your foot on the back of my neck IF you were straight. And yeah, that kind of makes you an "enemy," but I'm still not crazy enough not to give you props for advancing the ball if and/or when you do. But you don't do that . . . . No, you create a joke of an event which only reaffirms my worst suspicions. ROTFL. Thanks guys!

  24. Ann Coulter and lucas too! Was it a whore convention? Who gives a flying fuck about either of them? One is a famewhore and the other insignificant piece of human waste is an actual whore! Why are we wasting our time discussing either of them? The only time we need to even acknowledge a whore like lucas as anything remotely human is when we want to stick our dick into his mouth or into his ass. Actually, not even then! He is not worthy enough to even eat my shit!

  25. It's not just that Lucas attended, or debated, or tried to make a statement... it's that HE DONATED $2500 to GOProud! Well, $2500 of his "husband's" money, that is.
