U.S. Could Get First Openly Gay Lieutenant Governor

Massachusetts State Senator Richard Tisei, the running mate for that state's Republican candidate Charlie Baker, could become the first openly gay lieutenant governor.

TiseiGOP Politics evaluates the Tisei and Baker: "The GOP ticket is led by Charlie Baker, a fiscal conservative who supports marriage equality, and State Senate Minority Leader Richard Tisei, an openly gay candidate for lieutenant governor.  Not only is the GOP ticket in Massachusetts the most LGBT-friendly the Republican Party has ever fielded, but in this liberal bastion they’ve provided the Republican Governor’s Association (RGA) with a real pick-up opportunity."

Also, the Victory Fund has stated their support for the state senator: "Tisei has earned the respect of his colleagues and stands an excellent chance of becoming the party’s nominee for Lieutenant Governor if he can beat back the forces of intolerance on the extreme right wing of his party.  A group has emerged that’s urging Republican voters to reject Tisei because of his strong support for marriage equality, his support of teachers and because of his pro-choice stand."

Tisei himself noted that he has the potential to make history when speaking to the Martha's Vineyard Times last month: "People judge you on your performance," and not completely hiding his pride, added, "To tell you the truth, if I'm elected, I'll be the first gay office holder statewide, and the highest ranking in the country —unusual for a Republican."

You may remember that while Baker supports gay marriage, he and Tisei disagree on a Massachusetts transgender anti-discrimination bill.

  1. @Ryan-- here's some math: the difference between 5 and 6.25 is 25% percent. That's how much Dems raised taxes in Mass. Plus Deval hired 8000 new state workers, which is the last thing we need. Beacon Hill is corrupt, the details are shocking, we need a change.

Finally Republicans support gay equality put up a gay candidate, and you still support Obama-style coward Democrats who spit on LGBT voters? Doe snot compute. Some queers (like me) know math.

  2. I'm in total agreement with ALEX on this one. Deval Patrick IS a staunch supporter for equality in our state, but the way our state is being run is AWFUL. We are losing jobs, we are in more debt than ever before and he IS a union puppet. No matter what anyone says my vote as a proud, married gay man is for Charlie Baker.

  3. Deval:

Deval thinks giving in-state tuition to ILLEGAL 'immigrants' is a swell idea.

Deval thinks giving the same social services, including free healthcare if you'r 'poor', and housing subsidies, food stamps, child care breaks, etc., transitional assistance (welfare) to ILLEGAL 'immigrants' is a swell idea.
[Think Aunt Zeituni everybody...only multiplied many times over]

Deval thinks allowing prospective employers (or prospective landlord / tenant) access to a prospective employees criminal past, including felony convictions, etc., is mean spirited.

Deval thinks it's just plain mean spirited to ask a criminal if they're an ILLEGAL 'immigrant' and will not allow police to check for 'immigrant' status.

Deval thinks it's a great idea to blow a lot of cash on wind mills as part of his energy plan, even though it's proven to be a very inefficient method of energy production. He of course opposes new refinery construction or God forbid, nuclear reactors.

Deval placed a second tax on alcohol purchases. Massachusetts now effectively has a double tax on alcohol purchases.

Deval dramatically raised taxes on tobacco products.

Deval opposed construction of a casino at a racetrack in Boston, or even slot machines, 200 people lost their jobs, the site is now abandoned.

Deval attempted by backdoor methods to prevent charter schools and dilute Massachusetts strict educational MCAS exams.
[The powerful teachers unions oppose charter schools and MCAS exams]

Deval wants to tighten the states gun control laws, which are already strict. In other words, criminals and thugs can still easily illegally obtain firearms, but law abiding citizens can't.

Deval of course has raised taxes and state fees.

One of the first things he did as governor was spent a small fortune on redecorating his state house office and buying himself new Cadillac SUV, at taxpayers expense of course. He started using a state helicopter to fly the 10 miles to his home from the state house but that caused an uproar and he was forced to put a stop to it.
[Hence his nickname: Cadillac Deval or Coup Deval]

The list is a lot longer....

  4. FYI: Because Massachusetts is so relatively geographically small, and is bordered by multiple states, millions of people can easily go to a nearby state and buy products, including stuff like alcohol, for much less. Making these things more expensive in the state simply hurts in-state retailers, ultimately costs jobs and tax revenues. N.H. is 40 miles north of me here in Boston. It has no sales tax (and no income tax) and operates huge state run liquor stores right on the border where it's much cheaper than a store right across the border in MA.

  5. I have met both Charlie Baker and Deval Patrick. They are both good, decent, accomplished men. Massachusetts is incredibly lucky to be choosing between two decent candidates, when so many other places are choosing between horrible and awful.

Voting for one or the other doesn't require demonizing people who support us and our issues.

  6. Miss RATBASTARD where the fuck do you live? You seem to get alot of info on many politicians from different states.

DAMN That google for dummies must be good!

  7. And isn't that Alex faggot the one that said on another post He doesn't like Black people???

Are we really surprised he's not voting for Deval?

  8. Baker is another political opportunist running on his looks, just like Mitt Romney -- who said he was for gay rights when he ran for office, then did a complete about-face once elected. As for "fiscal conservative," voters need to know that Baker was in charge of spending on the Big Dig (the $15 billion boondoggle). Baker is pointedly ignoring Tisei in the campaign, which tells me Tisei is there for show, not influence.

  9. I hope that towleroad will balance this puff piece on the Republican ticket in Massachusetts with a similar piece on the Democratic ticket. Governor Patrick has actually earned the votes of LGBT Massholes and others committed to progressive values, while Baker ally and LCR darling Scott Brown, who was tireless in his efforts to ban marriage equality in the Bay State just a few years ago and who once referred to a lesbian colleague's family as "not normal", continues to support DOMA and refuse to support DADT repeal. If Baker really wants our attention, he should persuade Brown in advance of the election to come out for repeal of DOMA and DADT.

  10. Ok lets get this out there. I am a lesbian that DOES NOT SUPPORT the current governor at all!!!!! Yea, he helped with gay marriage, but is that really all what it is about? The only thing he has managed to do is increase our taxes, fees, and probably soon to come freedoms...If you want to pay for illegals to live in hotel rooms and have state cars paid for by us?....YAY PATRICK!!! No governor in mass is going to take away our rights...So republican or not...Charlie has my vote, because I want lower taxes and someone to stop all these damn handouts to illegal immigrants.

  11. You guys are all blind seriously...In Massachusetts it's clear the Patrick stands behind nobody but his friends. This state has SOOO much waste it is incredible. Our money does go to the right places but an large amount also goes to his friends in "no-show" jobs, and it's a slap in the face to any citizen gay or not.
