Cindy McCain Repeals Her View ON DADT

Cindy McCain has issued a clarification, this a day after she appeared in a viral ad for the NoH8 campaign which included her strong words of support for the LGBT community and her objection to the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, a view that is at odds with that of her husband's. In the video she is heard saying "our government treats the LGBT community like second class citizens, why shouldn't they?" and "They can't serve our country openly."

Now it apears as if she's taking back that last bit. Late yesterday, McCain sent out this message on Twitter:

Americablog is fuming:

"Did she lie today or lie yesterday?  Either way, she's a liar, and she should be removed from the NOH8 video because, as of right now, Cindy McCain is a hater.  Not to mention, great message she just sent to gay youth.  If someone pressures you, cave and support hate."

Sounds like she's backpedaling simply because, as Dan Choi pointed out to Keith Olbermann last night, her "very significant" public objection to DADT "underscores the values behind the repeal effort," something her husband opposes.

Watch that interview, which apparently aired before McCain's tweet, AFTER THE JUMP.

  1. I think its a pathetic position for her to 'have' to take -- her husband/family obviously bitch slapped her behind the scenes and got her pwned ass in line. How sad to be her age and still have to cowtow to anyone about her views. No sympathy from me, mind you, but its still pathetic.

  3. @Tank

To an extent, I think you're right.

  4. I would like to point out the hypocrisy and danger of stereotyping people, something we gays are always harping about. Stop saying Republicans are not our allies. Say instead that the the Republican party is not your ally or that 99% of Republicans are not your ally. Off the top of my head, I would like to point out that Ted Olson is a conservative Republican and he may be our best hope for overturning Prop.8 and spreading marriage equality throughout the country. There are also Democrats who do not publicly support marriage equality: our president is one of those people. And I say this as a progressive Democrat. Just sayin.

  5. "I would like to point out the hypocrisy and danger of stereotyping people, something we gays are always harping about. Stop saying Christians and Muslims are not our allies. Say instead that the the Christians and Muslims are not your allies or that 99% of Muslims are not your ally."

You and yours are fuckin' useless. But thanks for that, hippie liberal douche. Now how about directing some of your criticism at those 99% of republicans and homophobic democrats who aren't our allies instead of blaming the victim for not being charitable. Oh...that's right...that'd require a spine.

  6. Some of you queens owe me and others a fucking apology for ripping into us for even THINKING this bitch wasn't sincere. There goes your sole pro-gay Republican diva! And her daughter doesn't count.

  7. Typical of the lot. They just read the words, they don't write them. It didn't come from the heart. They probably just put the script in front of her and she read it having no idea what it said. Even someone with half a brain would have understood the words. Remember, John McCain committed adultery to be with this woman. Probably a true blond! (sarcasm intended)

  8. I have to agree with TANK as well.

  9. You can't have it both ways. You can't have a spokesperson so important to our cause, someone whose voice is heard and actually listened to by people on the right, without letting her have her own personal feelings on an issue or without making conflict between herself and her husband, who is a major political figure. It's not fair to her as an ally or us as a community who so desperately need allies with serious influence in the Republican party!

  10. Typical Republican. Even Log Cabin Repugs say gay equality is secondary for them to ideology. Screwed up people...

  11. If the tweet is real, Cindy should be removed from NOH8 statements and videos immediately, because she's clearly a hater and a liar.

  12. Fuck you, Cindy.

  13. I feel really sorry for her. I don't know what else to say.

Don't judge her too harshly. None of us know what goes on behind closed doors.

  14. Justin, that's a very charitable thought, but the woman just delivered a PSA talking about equality for all, and then backed up over her husband's victims and declared he's right to insist that gay people need to be squashed. How much harm does it do to the spirit of those struggling with this issue when such willful delusion goes unchecked? I say judge her by her own derision.

  15. Guess who I think should wear the pants in the McCain household? I am disappointed that Obama is not moving fast enough on gay issues, let alone all the others. I am thankful that McCain is not sitting in the White House. John McCain is just another Gop-Head Putz, and that goes for Sister Sarah, too!

  16. I think Cindy just got her ads mixed up...she was probably disappointed when they told her she wouldn't be getting a milk moustache.

  17. who know what let her go over the side that is a losing side. It is quite obvious by the new reports coming out of the Pentagon, the survey that have been done, the polls that have taken place...America is ready to accept gays in military...and if this old fart keeps pushing his just shows how out of touch he is with the rest of the country!!

  18. Tank is right

    stop making excuses for her

She has been a douche on many other issues in the past so no surprise here

anyway; the whole diva thing....I've never understood it. Why uplift females as role models/divas when one is attracted to maleness. Hell, i don't even understand the whole obsession many of my fellow gays have with female singers. I prefer listening to the male voice thus prefer male singers

it isn't just the cock that holds my attention....its everything male = attitude, voice, smell, apperance, way males percieve and interact with the world around them, etc

  19. I have to agree with Tank. He's truly the voice of wisdom at this forum. Cindy McCain is an absolute disgrace. Not only does she have a really awful Sharon Stone wannabe hairdo, but her makeup looks like it was slapped on by a bunch of monkeys on crack. She also looks and acts like she has been heavily medicated. Oh, and the vile wretch is a two-faced, bigoted liar, too. Any of you shortsighted, politically-naive, self-hating queens who are gullible enough to support any Republican candidate need to take a good long look at Cindy McCain and then look in the mirror.

  20. Guess Cindy's a whackjob, just like the dinosaur husband. Good thing they've got all that beer loot 'cause neither one of them could hold a real job.

  21. Hey Cindy! You can try to sit on two chairs at once but it does not usually work.

    Posted by: Igor | Nov 14, 2010 11:17:12 AM

  22. The whole "but GOP spouses support gay rights!!!!!" crap has been nothing but a carefully crafted campaign to put compassionate lipstick on the hateful pig that is the GOP.

It has served only to diminish gay anger at the GOP and provide cover for their obscene policies.

    Posted by: BobN | Nov 14, 2010 4:56:25 PM

  23. You have got to be kidding me. Governor Jan Brewer. Vice President Sarah Palin. Now this. The Arizona GOP is a total, utter gong show.

  24. Cindy, the way you flipped so easily on this topic, truth from you will never be expected to pass your lips again. I don't want to be associated with the NOH8 campaign if she is allowed to continue when she really thinks that gay people should be treated like trash. I wasted my time and money supporting a cause that allows hypocrites like you to be involved I feel so ashamed. Who would have thought that the McCain family would be so full of gay haters.
