Castor RoadOne of many disappointing elements of Tron: Legacy. "At a moment when people around the country are celebrating the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell, the film also serves as a poignant reminder that the gays who remain the most marginalized may not be the ones who are "butch" enough to serve but the ones who aren't."

RoadIn the wake of defeat of Pennsylvania anti-discrimination bill, towns are doing it on their own: "Allegheny County state Rep. Dan Frankel's bill attracted a record 71 co-sponsors, including two Republicans, and even passed narrowly out of the State Government Committee. RoadWill Catholics rejoice the repeal of 'DADT'? "The fact that the gay and lesbian soldiers who were willing to give their lives for their country were unable even to admit their presence within the military, seems about as far as you can get from any reasonable definition of 'respect,' to quote the Catechism.  How respectful is it to say to someone: 'You cannot say that you are here with us.') Much less it is treating them with 'sensitivity and compassion.'  How compassionate is it to tell a soldier: 'Feel free to sacrifice your life; just don't expect us to admit that you're here'?"

  1. Enrique Iglesias is very handsome, sexy, hot and I don't think he needs to make erotic videos for his songs. He is hot when he is on video. I have nothing against if he does those videos, but I just don't know why.

  2. Clicked on the Iglesias video and I was too late. I agree with matt26, Enrique would be sexy reading the phone book.

  3. OMG, they are creating a fuss when there is none with Tron. Reading the comments on the article, i have to agree with some of them. For one, the character isn't so much gay as he is flamboyant. Two, if he is gay, then so what? If we are to get equal treatment, we need to show the good and the bad of our characters. We gay people are human too, and as such, there are some really horrendous gays out there. That article is just bad.

  4. I did not see the point of that article, and how it has to do with DADT.

  5. tron just flat out sucked too much to be bothered with getting offended by the portrayal of a bad guy as a prancing queen

  6. @Robert, the point of the article is that Tron continues the tradition of having indviduals who don't conform to gender norms be evil.

Just like you know the hardened masculine guy is good, the guy who seems "queer" is evil and wrong. Depictions like the one in tron further reaffirm the notion that being queer or not conforming to gender roles is wrong, something that should tip you off that a person is dishonest, and evil.

  7. PS

    @ Robert

There is a ton of fuss about tron = it sucks and will be lucky if it makes 1/2 what it cost to make. It didn't even bring in the advertising budget of 50 mill over the weekend

  8. 'TRON' was fun and Sheen was a delight! I don't think he had any particular sexuality pinned to him. It was as if the 1976 Bowie wasn't available.
And yes... that article really had nothing to do with anything.

  9. Don't see what the fuss is about the "gay" character in Tron.

What I find outrages is all this fawning over such a non-talent as Enrique Iglesias.

  10. Sheen gave the best performance out of the whole movie. Who cares if he's gay (or, since his sexuality isn't specifically mentioned, merely flamboyant). I mean, he's A villain, but the film's big villain (Jeff Bridges' CLU) is far more evil. Is the movie heterophobic, too?
