Rush Limbaugh Mocks Japanese Tsunami Victims and Their Ridiculous Regard for the Environment

It was about time for Rush Limbaugh to chime in with something offensive about the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, and he didn't let anyone down:

Shelter A caller asked Limbaugh, "If these are the people that invented the Prius, have mastered public transportation, recycling, why did Mother Earth, Gaia if you will, hit them with this disaster?"

Limbaugh called this an "interesting question," and played a clip of ABC's Diane Sawyer reporting from a shelter in Japan. In the clip, Sawyer is surprised that the refugees in the shelter have maintained a recycling program. Limbaugh first mocked Sawyer, doing an impression of her and saying that "she sounds like she saw her husband for the first time in six months." He then turned to his caller's question.

"He's right," Limbaugh said. "They've given us the Prius. Even now, refugees are recycling their garbage." Here, he began to laugh, continuing, "and yet, Gaia levels them! Just wipes them out!"

Watch clips, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. This is so stupid I don't know how to best object to it. It's a FAULT LINE. Just wait long enough and it'll happen in gas-guzzling California too.

  2. The caller was a moron too - why should Rush have any insight into the actions of the Divine, such as why Japan was chosen as an earthquake site?

All sides of this equation are idiots.

  3. Sorry Rush, but unlike your "ditto-heads" not everyone is driven to action by religion. Sometimes reason enters the fold, and it is entirely reasonable to recycle.

  6. Guys cut Limbaugh a break. He is a major enviromentalist, his entire broadcast is recycled garbage.

Haven't you heard? These people think Rush is god.

  8. Earthquakes are messages from Mother Earth to the specific people who live nearest to the spot where the earth shook. Riiiiiiiight.

  9. The people who listen to Rush Libaugh are beyond contempt, and any attempts to reason with them are futile.

  10. No doubt Limbaugh's show gets it's fair share of trolls.

  11. The caller was most likely one of his paid actors

Rush, Beck, hannity etc were all recently busted for using

Premiere On Call to provide actors to pose as either cons or libs posing scripted questions to give an opening for each shows already scripted schtick for the day

Premiere On Call a subsidiary of Premiere Radio Network a subsidiary of Clear Channel which owns rush, beck, and hannity radio shows

  12. Of course it makes no sense - it is designed NOT to make sense.

It is designed to appeal to people who embrace their ignorance (holding base ideas) as a sign of superiority.

It is called pandering to "the street", the rabble, the mob.

The elite have always had propagandists play this game --- thus the embrace of the religion by Governments and Kings.

Just disgusting and far too common.
The mainstream media and education need to speak out against this. But they do not.

Not when Presidents praise scum like Rush and Bill O and appear on their shows - as GWB and BHO have done.

  13. The caller's question is so stupid and lacking in any understanding of science and reason that I can only say that Limbaugh's response is perfectly in line.

I guess it's easier to mock them than to admit that amidst the lack of rioting and looting among the Japanese and now their insistence on maintaining a noble recycling effort, they just may be a more disciplined and patriotic society than us Americans.

  14. Disgusting comments from a disgusting human.

As a footnote, I wonder how long it will take for someone to blame this on the gays.

  17. Gaia? I'm amazed to hear Rush acknowledging any power higher than himself!

  18. What did Beck say? I suspect that Rush was appealing to the lingering WWII era anti-Japan sentiment in the country that was exacerbated by the role Japan played in downgrading manufacturing here in the US (particularly cars). Hence the Prius mention. However, prior to the 1930's Japan and the US were on very good terms diplomatically, so the era of bad feelings from about 1935 to 1995 was something that could have been expected to end. After all, the DC tidal basin has a thousand cherry trees donated by Japan in 1911 or so. That's a large chunk of the US capital city.

  19. Reality 101 hit the nail on the head. This is how the right wing works. They don't make sense. They appeal to base stupidity and fear, which exists in all of us.

  23. RE: Sawyer's report, in America we have a phrase for the "ee tai" concept uniting Japan right now. It's called "E Pluribus Unum" and we write it on our cash and invoke it in times of crisis too. It's too bad Limbaugh and company have forgotten that.
