Watch: Michelangelo Signorile Speaks with Evangelical Who 'Loves' Him Despite His Homosexual 'Choice'

Last week I reported that Orange County megachurch Crystal Cathedral was having its choir members sign a "covenant" asking them to respect the Biblical view of sexual intimacy and marriage, between one man and one woman.

Crystalcathedral This week on his SiriusXM radio show, Michelangelo Signorile spoke with a member of that church.

Writes Signorile: "I was discussing the new policy of the famed evangelical church, the Crystal Cathedral, in Orange County, California, when John from Imperial Valley, CA, called in. He is a member of the church and saw no problem with the new policy that asks choir members to sign a covenant stating that sexual intimacy is only to be enjoyed between a man and a woman. I wondered why they focus only on that issue when there are many other sins that they don't ask members to sign off on. He then told me that homosexuality is a 'choice' and that even though he believes that he doesn't think he's 'better than' me and still 'loves' me. I told him that, actually, I do think I am better than him, for a variety of reasons, and that no, he does not love me, doesn't even know me -- that's creepy!"

  1. Someone should tell these Christian bigots that bigotry is a choice. You're not born with bigotry, you learn it.

As for homosexuality, exactly what does one mean by the word? If one means automatic feelings, it's obviously not a choice. If one means the basic behavior that results from those feelings, it's debatable as to whether it's a choice.

A choice, by definition, requires at least two viable options. It could be argued that an exclusively homosexually oriented person has a choice between celibacy and sexual behavior. However, why should the choice be thus? Exclusively heterosexually oriented people aren't required to make a choice between celibacy and basic sexual behavior unless they're monks or nuns.

However, I do agree with the notion that promiscuity is a choice. Gay people who indulge in promiscuous behavior are making poor choices in my view. I hold the same view for straight people who indulge in promiscuity.

  2. These people need to worry about whats in their own backyard. They are bankrupt by MILLIONS. They don't pay vendors- yet "family" members are well compensated. Those who live in GLASS CHURCHES should not throw stones. Great job MS.
Bankruptcy filings show generous pay for relatives of Crystal Cathedral founder
As revenue plummeted at the Garden Grove mega-church this year, and employees and vendors went without pay, the church paid more than $1.8 million to 23 insiders and Schuller relatives.

  5. ALL Religions are against Homosexuality for the same reason that they are against Adultery, Prostitution, and "Spilling ones seed on the ground". ---- NONE of these acts produce children to be raised by the Faithful to become dues paying members of the Religion as adults. Without such new members, the Priests, Ministers, and Rabies would have to go out and earn money for a living.
