  1. Great.. an apple Youtube. Postings by hipsters showing you videos of cats, but not cats you have ever seen.

  2. I know this marks me as a shallow little snit, but the head of the A&M gays is "Camden Breeding"? Really?

  3. @Dave-at least we can be shallow together. Of COURSE the anti-gay bigot's name is "Christian".

  4. Whoa, sounds like Beyonce is channeling MIA there. Reminds me of "Boyz" off Kala

  5. Texas A&M has a long history of being racist, homophobic and generally a horrible place to get an education. They had made some modest strides in years past, but now it and Texas have decided to go down the path of total hatred and ignorance.

  6. Maksim would be even hotter if he didn't shave that chest. And can Lindsay Lohan please just go away forever?

  7. Texas A&M = Mega $$$. U of T and A&M have the largest university endowments in America after Harvard.

I've always thought Jesus was a hottie.

  8. Christina Aguilera gets the 1st Star on the GAY WALK OF FAME at the Abbey? What the hell was Elizabeth Taylor...chopped liver? Or Judy Garland...or Bette Midler...or Donna Summer...or Madonna...or...(fill in the blank).

    Posted by: Taylor | Apr 21, 2011 3:21:26 PM

  9. Heterosexual, she declared herself bi but she'll never have anything serious with a woman, gets the first star on supposed gay walk of fame. Typical. Expected and pathetic. A lot of gay people are afraid to be gay. If a hetero isn't on that walk of fame then it wouldn't be worth anything according to these people.

  12. Can anyone here tell me about the 'party scene of Rome', or point me in the right direction? I was there and couldn't find a place at all?

  13. @Ratbastard Is this an example, at Texas A&M, of that inclusive welcoming South that you were talking about a few posts back? You know, when you went on that rant where you railed went on about how the progressives in the north where assholes, then proceeded to talk about how great and accepting the south and rural America was?

    Posted by: Frank | Apr 21, 2011 3:59:43 PM

  14. @Frank,

I DID NOT 'Rant'. What I said was a lot of northern [and for that matter southern, midwestern, western, Canadian, European, British] 'Progressives' were/are 3 dollar bills. I stand by that statement,Frank.

A&M is a HUGE university, and highly respected. In fact, the U of T system is probably the best state university system in America. And it's the equal of many well known private universities. I give credit where credit is due, Frank.

I also said, Frank, that MANY 'Progressives' get-off and go over-board criticizing and mocking southerners and the south in general. I personally have never understood this and what good purpose it serves aside from making people on all sides more pissed off and entrenched.

    Posted by: ratbastard | Apr 21, 2011 4:13:50 PM

  15. And Frank,

The 4th largest city in America, Houston, has a lesbian mayor. Houston, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin are all actually quite 'Progressive'.

That's a better record than some 'Progressive' cities, states, even countries.

  16. Apparently the summer heat makes people's brains in Texas boil and they are prone to exaggeration. The Texas A&M "system" of several universities does not have the largest endowment after Hahvard.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colleges_and_universities_in_the_United_States_by_endowment

As for this latest bit of demagoguery...not surprising at all for Texas. I was surprised when I spent a few days in Austin & San Antonio last year that there was more GLBT (particularly L) visibility than I thought there would be.

  17. U of T + A&M combined [they're both state university systems; they're both handled by UTIMCO] have the second largest endowments after Harvard.

U of T alone would be the 3rd largest after Harvard and Yale.

  18. @ST. THERESA OF AVILA,

And I'm not in Texas, boss. 55 degrees where I am.

  19. Why are we celebrating women like Beyonce and Christina Aguilera? Have we lost our minds? Or is it a case of Gay Inc foisting these women onto us? Is someone being paid?

I mean, you have Christina who faked her bisexuality in order to appeal to sleazy straight guys. And then you have Beyonce, a woman who took money from the tyrant Gaddafi's family as part of a performance fee some two years ago. Gaddafi has killed gays and blown up children in airplanes.

Please, towleroad, don't support either of these women. You risk losing credibility.

  20. As a former student of Texas A&M (Class of 2009) and former student employee of the GLBT Resource Center at A&M, I can honestly say that the Center has saved numerous lives of GLBT Aggies. It is literally the only safe space on campus, and students will stay as long as they can so they don't have to return to their residence hall room and abusive roommates. It's par for the course for A&M, but the GLBT Resource Center at A&M has made amazing strides since it's inception in 06/07, and has a great staff. This Student Senate vote is an outrage, and thanks Towleroad for getting the news out there further because their actions and the associated TX State Senate bill need to be exposed.

  21. Yes, I'll agree with you that progressives do sometimes go overboard in bashing the south. But I feel that is just as bad if not worse than you and other people like you who defend the south and conservatives, even in the face of blatant bigotry. My family is from the south, Mississippi and Tennesse respectively. I spent a great deal of time down there as a kid and an adult so I know a little about the culture. Is the south made up of one monolithic people who all think and do everything exactly the same? No. There are individuals in every bunch, and I've been suprised by the pockets of tolerance I found in places I never though I find it. But looking at overall picture, epecially in terms of gay rights, rural and southern areas lag far behind the "progressive" areas of America. It took a supreme court case to strike down sodomy laws in all of the southern states except for three. There are several states in the north that allow sex-sex marriage and civil unions, while there is no state in the south that allows it. In fact with the exception of New Mexico, every single southern or rural state has a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. Gay couples don't get the cops called on them while sitting on a park bench in San Francisco or Seattle while hugging and kissing, but in Birmingham, Alabama apparently they do. You have southern sentors, congressmen, and governors who oppose every single piece of legislation that seeks to make life better for gay people, and you can tell me with a straight face that all this is trumped by one gay mayor? Queen please. I'll give you this. People in the south do get along a lot better than in the north. There's are reason for that, and it's not because they are more accepting. It's because it's understood in the south where you do and don't go, and people are pretty good at respecting that boundary.
