Elisabeth Hasselbeck Defends Anti-Gay NOM Spokesman and Former NY Giant David Tyree: VIDEO

Today on The View, Elisabeth Hasselbeck came to the defense of former NY Giant and NOM spokesbigot David Tyree who has been in Albany working against passage of marriage equality there. Tyree has said gays shouldn't be allowed to raise children.

Said Hasselbeck: "I know David Tyree. I know his heart. He said he has not hate. He loves everyone. He believes everyone is created by God and should be loved as such. He doesn't have bigotry. He truly is just a man who is not a part-time guy following God."

And then Hasselbeck brings up Obama's position opposing same-sex marriage to defend Tyree's views.

Said Tyree in a video put out by NOM earlier this week:

“Marriage is the only relationship that actually mirrors a relationship with God — it’s very unique in that way...If they pass this gay marriage bill...what I know will happen if this does comes forth is this will be the beginning of our country sliding toward...anarchy...That will be the moment our society loses its grip with what is right...I don't believe that truth is subjective...If you redefine [marriage...it changes the perception of what is good, what is right, and what is just..."

  1. How did this moron get a gig where she is allowed to sit at the same table as Barbara Walters, Whoopie Goldberg and Joy Behar?

  3. This whole meme about anti-mariage-equality people being the victims because they are challenged on what they say in public is really grinding my gears. Way to flip the script. Argh!!

  4. No, he isn't a bigot, he just wants to deny law-abiding citizens their equal rights to which everyone should be entitled to because of his particular religious beliefs.

  5. When Elisabeth first started working on the view she was extremely offensive, vile and evil. Just like now. I remember when President Bush at the time was trying to push a federal ammendment to ban gays from marrying and Elisabeth said and I quote "if a man and a man marrys than whats next, is a man going to marry a toaster." Yes elisabeth everyone will start marrying toater ovens idiot. When Rosie became apart of the view she told rosie "well i see the way you interact with your children so yes i think i would allow for same sex marriage". Wtf does the way rosie interact with her kids have to do with gay marriage? and than with melissa etheridge she said well i agree with same sex marriage but i just think the american people people should vote and decide what they want. And than the little sh*t for brains keep bringing up the word marriage saying well i think maybe gays shouldn't have that word "marriage". Like its the words thats keeping us from equality so if we just take out the word "marriage" we'll have everything we've ever wanted . ugh she's the reason republicans will always be viewed as simple narrow-minded bigoted idiots

  6. I love how Sherry Shepard's only point of contention with his statement is the part that she could somehow spin into commentary on her own life.

  7. Elisabeth acts like Tyree was just some passive bystander simply asked for his opinion. She forgot to mention he is actively campaigning to deny people their rights, and is therefore open to any criticism that comes his way!

  9. "Hasselbeck proves once again that she is an idiot"

    yay, news.

if he's not a bigot then he'll allow people with beliefs different than his to marry. but he won't. because he's a bigot.

  10. Including gay couples in civil marriage will, according to some washed-up, inarticulate football player, lead to anarchy and society losing a grip with what is right. Can't spin that as other than hate, sorry.

    Posted by: Ernie | Jun 21, 2011 7:54:08 PM

  11. And you know, Hasselbeck, President Obama does NOT support bans on gay marriage.

So it's not exactly the same thing, you idiot.

Posted by: Little Kiwi | Jun 21, 2011 8:01:21 PM

  12. First, what this idiotic, semi-articulate football player thinks about anything is a non-issue. Same can be said for this Survivor contestant. Who cares?

But if I went out publically and said that as a Christian, I believe women should be subserviant to men. They should not speak, they should cover their heads in church and be silent. And a man should beat his children and if they speak ill of him, he shoudld kill them. I would be Biblically correct. But guess what, we've grown up as a culture, as humans. We no longer believe that the sun revolves around the earth, and the earth is flat.

If you are a person of faith -- and I am --if you actually know your scripture, know the origins, the meaning of the original words, the audience for whom much of it was written and everything encompassing the historical context, you would find out it says somethings much different than the modern homophobic interpretations. And quite honestly anyone preaching against gay men and women could never, ever call themselves Christians.

But I do find it amazing whenever there is a bigot who says something hateful and ugly, Ms. Hasslebeck "knows them" and what is in their heart. Maybe she should keep company with people who actually share Jesus Christ's values instead of these hateful souls.

  13. People are entitled to their opinions. Plain and simple. Tyree doesn't have to like marriage between two people of the same sex. He is entitled to that opinion. At the same time, he has to understand that that opinion is a bigoted opinion. Period. He may have it but it is bigoted. If you feel that only certain people are entitled to certain rights, like white people should only be allowed to go to college or straight people marry, then you opinion is bigotted. You can't say i love everyone but only some people are entitled to rights and not others. That's what the civil rights movement was all about. Regardless of same sex or interracial, it is a civil rights matter and if you oppose it, then you are bigotted. accept that about yourself Tyree and move on!

  14. As a "christian" male are you considered gay for being "married to God"? ITASQ?

    Posted by: gb | Jun 21, 2011 8:18:09 PM

  15. I agree with everyone here that Elizabeth has a point. he is entitled to his opinion. Just the same as we are entitled to think that he is a moron.
He is not entitled to judge other people and actively campaign to take away other peoples rights.

    Posted by: Paul | Jun 21, 2011 8:33:21 PM

  16. And also how can she possibly say that he 'loves everyone' when clearly he doesn't ? He clearly thinks that Gay people are less than straight people because he is picking and choosing parts of the bible to deny us our rights. If he really where a man of god blah blah why hasnt he got long hair and a long beard ?

  17. Folks like Tyree and Hasselbeck are great examples of people who simply mouth words without trying to understand what they say. Supposedly, Tyree "has no hate in his heart" but still wants to deprive people of a civil right established and maintained by the government. Hasselblech seems to think that "hatred" is only open, naked, personal hostility; no other manifestations of hatred qualify. And Tyree's comments boil down only to the "unnatural" charge; he clearly has no idea what "natural" means. Such ignorant bimbos and bimbettes are paid to say stuff, and use their celebrity to influence the equally ignorant true believers.

  19. I am so sick of this religious values thing these people think they own. They are not religious no follow the teachings of Christ.

    The judging....
    The putting down and slander...
    The physical abuse...

These are not Christ like people. In other words, cut the crap and get out of my bedroom, you were not invited to begin with.

  20. A bigot defending a bigot. I wish Joy was on the show cause she would have cut through that crap. Sherry, as usual, was useless.

  21. Hey Christians,

If you want to live as Jesus did, convert to Judaism. But if you're not going to throw aside your bigotry, then we don't want you!

  22. More proof that football players should stick to what they know: playing football and shutting the $%@# up. What's the over/under on this guy getting caught in bed with another dude?

  23. Elizabeth Hasselbeck was hired because she is pretty, not because she was intelligent.

  24. Let's see, when were blacks allowed to become mormon? I think it was 1978. Before that point they were considered to have the "mark of cain", and therefore unable to be mormon. It wasn't a bigoted decision, it was merely religious belief. But under pressure from people and the government, the head mormon talked to God,(he can do that), and God said it was ok. Poor mormons, poor God, forced to accept blacks against their religious beliefs.

  25. I heard a joke today, "This rich, white lady says to the Scientologist, have you heard about the co-host so dumb she actually thought the world was FLAT?!"

To which, Whoopi says, I think I already heard this one.

Didn't these clowns just defend Tracy Morgan last week?
