Adam Carolla Issues Lame Apology For Anti-Gay Rant

CarollaFT Adam Carolla came under fire for a nauseating anti-gay rant yesterday.

Rather than using the occasion to learn a lesson and admit his mistake, however, the former Man Show host issued a flat, pat apology: "I'm sorry my comments were hurtful. I'm a comedian, not a politician."

If only Carolla were a politician. Then we could order a recall and send him into the streets.

In case you missed it: Carolla last week went on a rant in which he not only insulted gay people, but laid into transgender people, whom he derided as frivolous and confusing.

  1. well his career will take off again. this is what you have to do when you run out of talent but still have a mortgage to pay... can't just call it a day and get a real job. i'm sure he'll enjoy the revenues he brings in from all the anti gay crazies that will adore his every word.

  5. Headline: Gay blog uses ableist language to decry homophobia

  6. Never liked him. Only Leno would ask him to go on his show and do the stupid "jackass of the month" lame joke bit.
    Comedian? Puhhhleaseeee.

  7. Message for world's unfunniest comic: stick your apology up your ass.

  8. He's angry because his penis size is equal to his talent. Has this guy ever been funny? He always seems like he's one bender away from an obituary column.

  10. Who?

  11. He needs to go sit next to Michael Richards in the unemployment line...

  12. How do we find out which advertisers advertise on his shows or cast him in their spots? We can start a campaign to boycott these companies, letters to the companies - "you continue hiring Adam Corolla for your ad campaigns and expect a huge boycott from the lgbtq community and it's straight supporters."

  13. I guess we can only hope that he got the message, cuz he's playing too cool to acknowledge it.

But for the sake of this allegedly close-to-gay-people-in-real-life dude, I hope he figures out that it's possible to joke about gay issues honestly...if you show your own dang insecurities about it, be honest...and ideally show that you are not an anti-gay and anti-trans bast**d.

He messed up...and the fact that it wasn't funny also shows that.

I sure hope he reforms instead of deciding to instead cater to the haters, cuz that's not a good place to be in history, for his sake.

  14. This guy represents the 1/3 of males who --were there no police, courts, government-- would rape women, be drunk 50% of the time, and just "gain by mayhem". Some males, like Corrola, thrive when they can bully without restraint, impose their will on others under implicit/actual threat of violence; and thereby take from others what they cannot acquire by any other means. He's like the loutish bully family that EVERYONE on the block hates.

  15. While the rant might be offensive. Adam Carolla is supportive of the gay community. He is a comedian who rants about everything... all of them are offensive in some respect. If one this was shown by his many years hosting Loveline is he isn't anti-gay. He is just trying to make jokes this is just another rant he went on. As I said...he is known for his crazy rants, did nobody else ever listen to loveline? He is definitely an equal opportunity offender.

  16. @Erik, I completely agree.

As for this whole issue, I'd rather him make the comment and stick by it, rather than issue a lame apology because his co-stars on 30 Rock don't want to look bad by association. It's easier to confront ugly, upfront heterosexism and anti-LGBT bias than it is to have to tease it out of someone

  17. another lame as individual trying to save what is left of an already shrinking career. will be doing if you need a lawyer commercials nextor preparation h.

  18. Once again folks, replace "gay" with "black" or "Jewish" or "hispanic" and see how many folks laugh. Hell, he wouldn't even have dared to say them. The only thing that he's sorry about is that he got caught. A douchbag is still a douchbag no matter how sorry he says he is. Enough is enough with these Neanderthal assholes. And enough is enough with their apologists.

  19. He wishes he were a comedian. What a waste of space!

  20. When did he become a comedian? I guess theyre hiring for bigots

    Posted by: Jeff | Aug 16, 2011 3:00:55 PM

  21. Corolla is a bigot and doesn't understand that he is a bigot. He liked to repeat on his radio show that he doesn't want to explain gay couples or gay marriage to his kid. He doesn't get that this is horribly homophobic remarks.

    Posted by: JOhns | Aug 16, 2011 3:48:06 PM

  22. Why report non-apologies?

    Posted by: Randy | Aug 16, 2011 4:08:12 PM

  23. He doesn't want to explain gay marriage or gay couples to his kids!??

If true, he's an idiot and not a friend to gay people in anyway.

Cuz it's CRAZY simple. Duh: Two people love each other. That's it. Countless evidence shows that homophobia and gay-hatred is TAUGHT. I guess this retrograde person (?) is committed to teaching it?

    Posted by: just_a_guy | Aug 16, 2011 5:09:21 PM

  24. How he can equate the hurtful comments he uttered with comedy is beyond me. Comments he now attempts half-heartedly to apologize for. Either it's funny or it isn't.

If it's comedy, as he suggests, then why in the hell is he apologizing? My guess is he knows better, and knows that he crossed a line.

  25. Its called a podcast. Which means GLAAD cant threaten his sponsors into an apology tour like Tracey Morgan. My transexual sister in law thinks it was funny, she also thinks the only people who are insulted aren't even transexual....
