Gay Republican Presidential Candidate Fred Karger Shut Out of GOP Convention

Gay Republican candidate Fred Karger has been refused a seat at the GOP Convention, the SF Chronicle reports:

Karger Even as Republican leaders say they're eagerly wooing all candidates to the state GOP convention Sept. 16-18 in Los Angeles, Karger says his request to attend and address the party activists has apparently been refused.

"I have been waiting for my invitation, and it never came," Karger, 61, a 38-year resident of Laguna Beach (Orange County), told The Chronicle last week. "And I called up a couple of weeks ago and explained my position."

That's when a party official, Karger said, left a "terse" message: "The schedule is completely filled."

The paper notes that Karger was shut out of CPAC earlier this year as well:

Karger was all set to attend the national Conservative Political Action Conference, where he had arranged for a booth and even provided his credit card to pay for it. He was surprised to get a call saying "Fred was no longer invited ... because there were no booths available," Miniter said.

Miniter called to check - inquiring about booth rental for another group - and suddenly, "they were more than happy to rent to us," he said.

Jimmy LaSalvia of GOProud, a the gay conservative group that has been shut out of CPAC as well, trashed Karger in the Chronicle piece:

"Unfortunately, Fred Karger is playing a stunt, and his stunt has run its course. His whole schtick is ... running around the country with a rainbow flag, saying 'I'm the gay guy,' " he said. "But he hasn't made a case about why he should be president of the United States."

  1. Gay Republican=Delusional

  2. The insulting treatment is not meant solely as a slight to the candidate. It is meant to reflect the lack of any regard the Thugs have for gay Americans, period. Thugs are such despicable, petty, inferior people.

  3. And this is surprising because...
We all know the Republican party is homophobic, racist, and kleptocratic. And many other adjectives as well. I guess it was a good try on Karger's part, but he should've realised that just because he's on their side doesn't mean he isn't going to have to fight like hell to get even the slightest amount of respect.

  4. I am sure that there NO WAY somebody can be more self loathing than a member of GOProud. They are the type of people who get beat up at home and put into the hospital, the tackle the police that is trying to arrest their abusing partner.
Perhaps somebody should bring to their attention that NONE of the GOP candidates have an answer to why do you want to be president

  5. I have zero sympathy for Fred Karger. You align yourself with a group that despises you, then you act shocked when you're ostracized? Maybe he'll get it through his thick skull, Republicans aren't the party of Lincoln anymore and they never will be.

  6. Jimmy LaSaliva is describing someone else as running around the country with rainbow flag? How does he describe his own schtick?

  7. And yet he'll continue to be a Republican. It's like battered wife syndrome.

  8. It's like a chicken running for leader of a pack of wild dogs. Maybe he should run as, oh I don't know, a Democrat?

  9. And still, they will lap at the feet of the GOP, happy for whatever scraps they'll be thrown. The depths of humiliation they'll bend to just to protect their money from liberals.

  10. While I personally find it absolutely impossible to reconcile "gay" = "Republican", I do think this GOPer position toward Karger factually solidifies the rampant homophobia throughout the Rethuggie party. And, as to GOProud's statement that "...(Karger) hasn't made a case about why he should be president of the United States", I must point out the idiocy of LaSalvia's position: when GOP officialdom and its PR arm - Faux Noise - won't give you a platform on which to address your constituents, how in the Hell do you make your case? This GOProud crowd borders on the delusional when they think they can be gay AND accepted by the GOP. To this is say "NUTS"!

  11. Yes indeed: "battered wife syndrome." Thanks for that NODNARB.

  12. Mr. Saliva says Karger is pulling a stunt. What has GOProud done but pull a series of stunts? They have accomplished NOTHING (except have a cocktail party and whine about liberals on FOX). At least the Log Cabin Republicans have won their DADT lawsuit.

  13. So I suppose, Jimmy, that you believe that Michele Bachmann has made a case to be president by claiming that gays are of Satan?

  14. @NODNARB I was about to say the same thing! Its total battered wife syndrome. Except its battered GayRepub syndrome. Anyway, this is not a group I pity either. If someone slaps you in the face, dont put on dark glasses and say "Johnny cant help it, he's outta work and I shouldnt have mouthed off to him that way". NO, you punch the f*cker in the balls and pack your bags.

  15. Wow. Goproud fag bashed Karger. On a larger note, it goes to show how repubs really want only those that tout and spout the party line. independent thought of any kind is anathema to the party. they are kind like the borgs from star trek. what if a repub was socially progressive but fiscally conservative? sorry, not allowed.

  16. Ah, I was beginning to wonder when Baby Jane Salvia, winner of the Little Miss GOP pageant, would take time out of his busy schedule of performing "I've A Letter To Ronald Reagan (His address is Heaven above)" to serve up a dead rat to Fred Karger.

I shouldn't have doubted him. As usual he's come through with a message of such stunning brilliance, that the man who is never allowed to speak hasn't spoken about about why he should be President, that it was well worth the wait.

Not that I'd ever vote for Karger or any other member of the GOP of course, but it's kind of suspenseful wondering when, if ever, Salvia, GOPround, Karger, or the LCR will use some of their Bush tax cut savings to buy a clue. "But you are, Jimmy et al, you ARE in a political party that hates you and wants to strip you of all rights!"

  17. He is the best, not for his views (God no), but because he is making every GOP event commit to discrimination. I love seeing the show.

  18. goproud no matter how many times you lick the repuks feet they will still hate you. please stop trying to impress them they wouldn't even let you go to their convention. please stop begging for love. it actually makes you look very pathetic.

    Posted by: walter | Aug 24, 2011 11:05:44 AM

  19. I'm with Fenrox.

And Karger beats out Saliva (ha) group "GOProud" any day.

  20. There were Jewish Nazis so I guess there can be gay Republicans. Go figure.

    Posted by: Charley | Aug 24, 2011 11:38:20 AM

  21. for what it's worth, GOProud doesn't back him because Karger actually wants to promote LGBT Equality, and GOProud members can't promote LGBT Equality because it'll remind their white, moneyed, bigoted parents that their sons are gay and GOProud members work each day to not remind their parents that they're gay.

Because, make no mistake, every single member of GOProud is an embarrassment to their families.

  22. And they tear the flesh from each other like the rats they are.

  23. Too bad about Karger. Very sad about the GOProud Girls criticizing him. But then, they had to; otherwise, they would never be able to brunch with Ann Coulter again!

  24. B-b-b-but the GOP says *it's* the big-tent party! How could it have run out of room at the CPAC event AND the convention???

    Posted by: AnotherG | Aug 24, 2011 4:01:57 PM

  25. He's a well-intentioned fool. Can't gay Americans understand that the republican party hates you and wants you dead? It's really very simple.
