    How hypocritical is it for major league sports teams to be making these videos when not one of them has an openly Gay member? The atmosphere in major league sports is still overwhelmingly homophobic. Just another reminder that the IGB Project is all about covering ass, not protecting kids.

    @Stuffed Animal, couldn’t disagree more.

    It is so important not only for GLBT but their families. Also for people who discriminate GLBT but watch baseball, might actually notice this.
    And this is one step away from homophobic atmosphere.

    I am happy they made these videos.

    Stuffed is entitled to by cynical, but I applaud the players who participated. Nothing of the sort would have been imaginable even 10 years ago.

    They made a conscience decision to release this for back to school and superstar players volunteered (nobody can make Roy Halladay do anything). Some people complain about everything.

    I have always had the hots for Chase Utley .. but of course he’s straight, married and has a wonderful wife.

    Thanks for the support, Phillies and Rays!!!!

    @Stuffed Animal Covering ass? Really? What do professional sports franchises have to be afraid of? They are raking in record revenues and profits and sports has never been more popular.

    As for there not being an openly gay professional athlete, whose fault is that? You might take note of the fact that, as recently as a couple years ago, there were only 2 openly gay members of Congress and the most visible of those, Barney Frank, was outed involuntarily. So do you blame the Democratic Party for its lack of openly gay politicians? Do you blame Hollywood studios for the fact that there is not a single out movie star in the year 2011? Not one. Do you blame Corporate America for the fact that there is not a single out gay CEO or senior-level executive of a Fortune 500 company?

    If anything, this effort on the part of major league baseball puts it way ahead of other segments of society in fighting homophobia….and it certainly will help the self-esteem of young gay male athletes far more than some little prissy missy like Lady Gaga singing some stupid song with lyrics like “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen.”….

    I don’t understand how anyone can be “against” the It Gets Better campaign.

    it’s entirely done by volunteers. if you don’t like the message, then record your own. duh. it’s that simple.

  8. jaragon says

    I don’t see how anyone can complain about these videos- anything that fights hate and encourages tolerance is good for all of us. (and what are the Mets waiting to do one?!)

  9. J H Robbins says

    Absolutely – this is a milestone in our progress. My husband said the same thing Call said – nothing like this would have been done 10 years ago. Good on them!
