NY Race for Weiner's Seat Shows GOP's Turner with Edge
Good As You looks at the faith-attacking flyers NOM is employing in its campaign against pro-equality candidate David Weprin in the special election race for Anthony Weiner's seat which voters will see at the polls tomorrow. NOM is spending $75,000 to try and defeat Weprin.
Bill Clinton and Governor Andrew Cuomo appear in robo-calls targeting New York's 9th Congressional District as election day approaches, USA Today reports:
Turner, a businessman, leads Weprin, a state assemblyman, 58%-26% among voters unaffiliated with either major political party, according to the survey released Sunday by the left-leaning Public Policy Polling firm. The poll notes that Obama is highly unpopular in the heavily Democratic district that takes in Brooklyn and Queens.
"If Turner wins on Tuesday it will be largely due to the incredible unpopularity of Barack Obama dragging his party down in the district," says a PPP memo on its poll.
A Siena Research Institute poll last week on the race showed Turner with a six-point lead.
Meanwhile, anti-gay Senator Ruben Diaz says he's thrilled at the opportunity to campaign against Weprin:
"I praise the Lord that the National Organization for Marriage has given me opportunities to robo-call and send mailings to the voters in the 9th Congressional District about my support for Bob Turner's pro-family values. These efforts will empower Bob Turner with real support from New York's Hispanic community."

Note how they manipulated around the edges his mustache to turn it into a Hitler-stache

I wonder if Peolosi and Anthony Weiner's other colleague's regret throwing him overboard. It is so typical of the Obama administration and the Democratic party today - they are their own worst enemies. Their failure to rally around Weiner during his lowest moments may cost them a seat in the House when their sacrifice was supposed to increase their number. Weiner was still popular even after the scandalous revelations. His seat would have been safe for years. Plus, we lost a needed progressive voice in the party.
Meanwhile David Vitter, the Republican patronizer of prostitutes continues to sit in the Senate unmolested.
Dems - cowardice gains you nothing.

the irony - NOM of course being anti-Jewish. remember? they're all about Christ.
pandering to Jewish communities for votes? please, these bigots think Ann Frank is sitting with Gandhi in Hell.
lame.

Try running a candidate that can win too. And don't assume a seat is safe for one party or the other.

The NY Gay Community needs to get off their butts and make sure a GOP candidate fails. We will hold them responsible if a non-Democratic/Independent doesn't take the seat.

So he defied Jewish law by voting for marriage equality. First, it's not so clear that what they're saying is true about "Jewish law," assuming they're referring to religious and ethical precepts. Second, was he sent to Albany to help impose "Jewish law" on New York?
To me, this message triggers all kinds of alarms that go off when someone starts talking about enforcing religious ideas through government.

For this district, where I grew up, to even be close portends a disaster in 2012 for the Democrats. Thank you Mr. President.

Defied "Jewish law"? Like that should be relevant. It's like saying he defied "Sharia law" to support civil marriage equality. The sad thing is the application of personal religious belief (i.e. bigotry) to civil law only alarms anti-gay voters when it is make-believe Sharia law instead of the real theocratic threat in this country.
And, I agree, Vince. Weiner was tossed under the bus (granted, in no small part because of his stupidity, even if it should have been no one's business) and this is what the Democrats could get for abandoning him.

I thought this situation was due in large part to Obama's perceived anti-Israel actions ( whatever they may be )

All those dems here who have been railing against Obama.
Ye reap what ye sow.
You want obama to be more pro-gay? More liberal? The little he has done has cost him the middle in this district and likely the country.
I hope you realize your impatience has ushered in a new conservative culture unlike anything we've seen. Congrats.

@ANON You are absolutely correct. We tend to forget that here in NY the Democratic Party is as corrupt as they come. Welprin is an inferior candidate and was selected simply because he is a lackey for Brooklyn-Queens party bosses. This may be a minor race but it does have national repercussions.

So the right wing traitors are pandering to the Jewish and Latino communities with their standard fear and smear tactics? Let's hope Brooklynites will see through their manipulations and vote with their conscience not their irrational lizard brains.
