Rick Santorum Lies, Says Obama Ordering Military to Marry Gays: VIDEO

Rick Santorum lied today at the Values Voter Summit about the Pentagon's recent directive allowing military chaplains to marry same-sex partners, Think Progress reports.

Said Santorum: "...he has instructed his military chaplains to marry people in direct contravention — marry gays and lesbians — in direct contravention to the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage in federal law as between a man and a woman. So not only did the President not defend the law, he has now instructed people in the military to break the law."

In fact, the Pentagon's directive clearly states that "a chaplain is not required to participate in or officiate a private ceremony if doing so would be in variance with the tenets of his or her religion or personal beliefs."

Santorum also vowed to protect opposite sex marriage in every state.

  1. He's grasping at straws to try and stay relevant. Doesn't he know every time he appears in public thousands of people google his name and +1 the frothy mix definition?

  2. Never mind that a wedding is not a marriage. People can have any kind of ceremony they want. Legal recognition is something else entirely. DOMA doesn't prevent weddings, not even on government property

  3. Is this really shocking? Can you imagine what lies Santorum and the other Republican candidates would tell on Obama if he were foolish enough, politically speaking, to come out in favor of marriage equality before next November.

  4. Its truly amazing to see someone who professes to adhere to strict christian values stand in front of an audience full of video cameras tell lies and half-truths. The hate that fills his heart and mind is very obvious.

  5. Are we supposed to expect somebody at this hatefest to correct him?

  6. One thing the Republicans have learned very well is that if you repeat a lie over and over, people believe it, even when presented with facts that say otherwise. Democrats think that if they can only get the real facts out there, people will change there minds, but it doesn't work that way. This technique was, of course, also used by the Nazis.

  7. Hey I give him some credit for calling us gays and lesbians as opposed to *gasp* HOMOSEXUALS.

  8. He only has a few more months to rake in some PAC money so he has to throw some red meat to the donors. Then he can spend it once it is clear he has no chance of getting the nomination. Sarah and Newt are playing the same game. Hey, it's a living

  9. Actually, federal election law forbids spending campaign donations on personal expenses. His campaign is all but over, so I imagine he's trying to position himself for whatever he's going to do next.

  10. hasn't he folded his campaign yet? his numbers keep going down and down. what is he hoping for all the others to get hit by lighting? he isn't going to be a candidate and probably never again hold an elected office. thank god.

  11. The irony here is insane—this holy roller with a law degree, who's so afraid of protecting religious freedom, doesn't grasp the fact that DOMA has never had any bearing on religious practice. The first amendment protects denominations that perform SSMs just as it protects those who oppose SSM.

  12. he, like all right-wing Christian conservatives, has no problem whatsoever with breaking God's Ninth Commandment in order to serve his own purpose.

    pious hypocritical liar.

  14. Rick Santorum is a snore-um. Okay everyone, is he a bore or what. You can either laugh at his dumb-dumbness or fall asleep. I suggest the latter. Oh, I'm falling asleeeeeee. snore.

  15. Dear Gays,

I just can't seem to combat you gays fairly, so I am going to just make sh*t up from now on because that's the only way I can get attention and get anyone to listen. M'kay?

  18. He seems obsessed with gay marriage to the exclusion of any other topic. Are we sure he's not running for chief of the marriage police?

  19. I'm with Stick, he is a raving closet case! Thank goodness the cameras are running to capture his rants.

  20. Anything associated with Liberty University and the Liberty Counsel should be considered an extreme fringe group like the Westboro Baptist Church and not be taken seriously.

  21. Yeah, count me in ......he is the biggest closet case of all......

Anyone so obsessed with "the gay" has some serious unresolved conflicts.

Come out, Rick, face your demons, you will be much happier and if you are humble enough you might even gain a new constituency.
And remember what Henry of Navarre said :
    "Paris is worth a Mass".......
which is a nice Catholic bon mot the significance of which you will understand, you being a scholar and all that.
