Under the Ice in Antarctica: VIDEO

Near McMurdo Station in Antarctica there is an observation tube installed below the ice. This video was shot last month by research diver, musician, and filmmaker Henry Kaiser.

According to Kaiser, "Anyone can climb down the ladder and watch us divers at work under the ice. The snow was bulldozed off of the sea ice around the observation tube, creating a very light environment; which seems to have attracted an enormous population of larval and juvenile ice fish that form great clouds around the tube."

  1. Beautiful Video, but the music to it induces migraines.

  2. A fascinating look at what some people do, all in a day's work.

  3. Great video but HORRENDOUS music. Dear God! That was like listening to nails scratch down a chalkboard!

  4. See Herzog's Encounters at the End of the World for far more intensely rewarding images of Antarctica.

  5. Sorry, with that music I couldn't get beyond a minute. If this is the sort of thing you like, may I recommend the current BBC offering which is brilliant with the added bonus of Attenborough doing the voice-over?
