Hacker Group Anonymous Announces Plans to Take Down Facebook: VIDEO

An account claiming to be the hacker group 'Anonymous' posted a video yesterday announcing its plans to take down Facebook and enlisting those who want to help, as a protest against SOPA and PIPA.

CNET reports: "A tweet from the AnonOps Twitter account denies that this video has anything to do with Anonymous: 'Again we must say that we will not attack #Facebook! Again the mass media lie.'"

They add:

Facebook, for its part, told me through a representative that it's ready for attacks from Anonymous or anyone else.

The representative said: "We expect Anonymous just like we expect any other attack on any other day. Due to our size, we face the same threats as seen everywhere else on the Web, but we have developed partnerships, backend systems, and protocols to confront the full range of security challenges we face. Facebook has always been committed to protecting our users' information, and we will continue to innovate and work tirelessly to defend this data."

  1. This does not make sense. Why would Anonymous turn their sights on Facebook? It seems like an illogical target, so I would agree with those who say it's not Anonymous sending the message.

  2. Facebook is a disgusting corporate entity that sells information, takes your personal data and treats its 'customers' with contempt yet people just lap it up. Its NOT on your side. I wanted no part of it when it started and want no part of it now. I gave my reasons at the time and as proved right.

  3. Anon also said yesterday that those reports were false because they rely so heavily on social networking to get support for their cause. I am going to go ahead and believe them not to be searching for FB attack.

  4. Wish somebody would take down Facebook--if only for a day, just to see the dazed look on peoples' faces when they realize that they can alert the world to their current status!
