George Clooney Says Mitt Romney 'On The Wrong Side of History' on Gay Rights: VIDEO

George Clooney was asked backstage at the Golden Globes what he thought of GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney's stance on gay rights:

"I'm not much concerned until there's an actual nominee...but I think it's the wrong side of history. I think everyone understands it might be the last leg of the civil rights movement. I do believe that. It's certainly not the wedge issue it was in 2004, so that's a good sign."

  1. Er, MItt Romney is actually the most gay-friendly of all the Republican nominees except for Ron Paul, perhaps. Therefore, George Clooney is either being ignorant or he's shilling for the Democrats.

Either way, it's slightly ironic that a purported closet case like Clooney is criticizing Romney for his stance on gay rights. What's Clooney's stance? Hiding it?

  2. Thanks George! If you were here in front of me right now I'd kiss ya!

  3. I don't think it's slightly ironic Jason. The alleged hiding of his personal life and sexuality got nothing to do with someone actively trying to remove rights of a minority.

  4. Romney does not intend to remove any gay rights. He's already said that. He won't go back on any of the advances that have been made recently, such as DADT repeal. You really ought to read the facts.

I'll be voting for Romney if he is the Republican candidate. Obama has told too many lies to us. It's been one lie after another in the search for our votes and money. Obama is simply a fake advocate, not a fierce one.

  5. "Mott Romney is actually the most gay-friendly of all the Republican nominees"

Friendly? You call signing a pledge vowing to amend the federal Constitution so that gay and lesbian couples can NEVER get married ANYWAY in the US friendly? You call that friendly?

At least Obama opposes amending the Constitution while he "evolves." But with friends like Mitt Romney, who need Rick Santorum?

That marriage-amendment support is a kiss of death to me. There is curse on all candidates who who sign it.

  6. Jason, you need to educate yourself. Romney says he is for equality, except that he obviously don't think equal marriage rights are important. He has pledged to support a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. He has pledged to appoint judges who are opposed to gay rights. Etc., etc. Whatever moderation he may possess, he long ago sold out in order to win some Evangelical votes in order to get the Republican nomination.

  7. The "irony" is in the phrase "gay-friendly Republican."

When push comes to shove, the Republican Party is not, has never been and will very likely never be a Friend of the Gay. Those LGBT who continue to support this party, a party with NO place at the table for Gays and Lesbians, are somewhere on the spectrum of simply delusional to profoundly self-interested and not entirely Friends of their own "community," altogether...

  8. George is a Total Doll who alas doesn't play for our team. ("I've studied the question at close range for several years now and believe me he's straight.) He does, however, make a great cheerleader for us and our causes -- whcih is of course why he annoys the lieks of "Jason" -- who would rather donate his very last pint of blood to Roger Ailes than do anything to help the LGBT comminties.

  11. Anyone who says Obama is a liar and hasn't advanced gay rights and then in the same breath says they're going to vote for Mitt Romney... well... I don't think I need to say anything else.

Gay Republicans... constantly cutting off their noses to spite their face. Absolute ridiculousness.

  12. I really cannot understand how any of you who wrote positive comments about Romney or any other Republican can really be serious about voting for the people who held up signs that read "Thank God For Aids"? I lost many brothers to this horrible epidemic and I DON'T FORGET! Neither should you all.

  13. Clooney is your basic Hollywood liberal.

  14. BEAHBEAH you said it best. I mean, "It's been one lie after another in the search for our votes and money." is Romney's M.O. to a T.

  15. Jason,
Words cannot express how off the mark you are? Obama has been the most gay-friendly president EVER. Romney? Seriously? How self-hating can you be? Get a clue. Seriously!

    Posted by: Lu | Jan 16, 2012 9:56:03 PM

  16. @Lu: Jason isn't self-hating, he's attention-loving. He'll say literally anything to get someone to respond. He makes a calculation about what response would be most annoying and then posts it. He's essentially the Ann Coulter of Towleroad except that she gets paid to say obnoxious things. Jason's only reward is the warm glow of flames from the people who respond to him. I suspect it makes his parents' basement seem more cozy to him.

Don't worry about who he says he's planning to vote for. Chances are he isn't even registered to vote.

  17. Only a crazy gay or lesbian would vote for Romney, or any Republican.

You have to be filled with such self-hate or be a born bigot, to vote against President Obama.

But, I guess fools always vote against their own self interest!
