Santorum's Gay Former Aide Robert Traynham Reappears on 'Hardball', Explains Rick's 'Extremist' Positions: VIDEO

Traynham

Those of you who have been reading this site for almost seven years may remember that back in 2005, I posted about former Santorum aide Robert Traynham, who was then Santorum's Communications Director, and had just been outed as a gay man by blogger Mike Rogers.

Traynham's still-stunning statement at the time:

"When asked how a gay man could speak for one of the nation's most notorious homophobes, Traynham, left, protested that has 'been with the Senator for eight years.' Traynham went on to say 'Senator Santorum is a man of principle, he is a man who sticks up for what he believes in, I strongly do support Senator Santorum.'"

Traynham apparently still feels that way, because he went on Hardball last night to deflect questioning about some of his former boss' extremist positions on abortion, homosexuality, and 'DADT'. Traynham says that he doesn't agree with Santorum on same-sex marriage but appears to stand up for the candidate under Matthews' pointed questioning.

  2. Any gay person who works for a vile homophobe like Rick Fecal Santorum is clearly and actively doing damage to the LGBT community and richly deserves to be outed. It is astonishing to me that any adult could be so self-hating and self-delusional as to not see that damage Santorum has done and plans to do to gay people. Disgusting!

  3. This sounds like a case for Marcus Bachmann. Quick someone make an appointment for him.

  4. Hmm I wonder how supportive of Santorum he'd be IF you replaced all Ricky's ANTI-GAY BS, with ANTI-Black BS? what a self-loathing scumbag (who NEVER had to FIGHT for His RIGHTS as a Blackman)

  5. Wow this is the first case I've seen of a double Uncle Tom. A black man working for a racist and a gay man working for a homophobe. I wonder who hates this traitor more, me or himself.

  6. pathetic - I would feel sorry for this tortured and self-hating man if he wasn't actively causing harm through whatever desperate need for approval is motivating him.

  7. Well, we know someone's getting paid for this.

    What a pathetic loser.

  8. A severe case of Stockholm syndrome. Gay republicans are replete with it. Amazing how they vote for and support their oppressors.

  9. 'Senator Santorum is a man of principle, he is a man who sticks up for what he believes in, I strongly do support Senator Santorum.'"

By that criteria, he would support every whack job dictator and klan wizard that ever existed.

  10. I heard this interview on SiriusXM driving home yesterday. I was amazed that Traynham was in such denial about Santorum's positions BEFORE he revealed to Matthews that he is a gay man. Then I was double-amazed. Since I only heard the audio, I also didn't realize at the time that Traynham was African-American. Knowing now that he is and he STILL worked for racist Santorum, I don't know what to think! How can a gay black man stoop so low to work for and support a racist homophobic bigot like Santorum? It truly boggles the imagination. Perhaps he's a brother from another planet who doesn't understand human interactions here on Planet Earth!

  11. I see somebody with a mental illness, of the stripe we would normally lock away if they were standing on a street corner, throwing feces at people. In a sense, that's what he's doing, in a slightly nicer outfit.

  12. I couldn't bear to watch the video. The text was painful enough.

  13. Big Gay Girlfriend of Colour sure is in denial about his former boss-man Santorum. BGGOC seems o not be listening. Denial is a mental disorder of those who will not face the hard truths of about the object of their affection/obsession that said object loathes their very humanity and will support any effort-legal or otherwise-to eradicate them. BGGOC is a very, very, very sick man. I pity him. I also think he needs to have his @$$ kicked from one end of his refrigerator to the other.

  15. he worked for santorum for ten years and doesn't know where he stands on gay sex, DADT etc ? This guy is complete and utter liar...or he is quite simply the most brain dead stupid cretin i have ever had the misfortune to listen to.

  16. I'm beginning to think that Republicanism is a cult...they literally brain wash people into believing complete and utter untruths.

  17. Judas. Quisling. Kapo. History is filled with sad and despicable characters who for personal or financial gain are willing to betray their friends, nation or people. If there is a hell, the lowest parts are reserved for pathetic creatures like Traynham. A pox on him and his ilk.

  18. I have said this before "Once the Christian Right-White Wing-nuts have taken away our rights, who will be next... The Blacks?"

  19. A (double) self loathing gay black man.

No doubt he gets into really twisted sex. "Power Bottom" might even be to vanilla for his tastes.

  20. While I find Santorum's social views vile, a couple important points:

    1. Traynham is correct Sanotrum is generally highly-principled, and it's reasonable to respect someone like Santorum (and George W Bush) who are good, decent people who stick to their principles. We can and should RESPECT them and their views, even if we STRONGLY DISAGREE with some of their views.

The bigger problem I have with Santorum (and with most Christians and Muslims) is their compulsion/obsession to force others to live by their religious beliefs.

Santorum has every right to not use contraception, and to prevent his kids from using contraception. But he has no right to tell anyone else how to live their lives.

Chris Mathews got into that a bit, suggesting Santorum would turn the US into a "Theocracy"...but he unfortunately didn't explore this point further with Traynham.

    2. In defense of Traynham working for Santorum...I find quite often someone who is generally opposed to something they don't fully understand (like gays), or is prejudiced against a group of people (blacks, women, gays, jews) is often fine with an individual. So...while Santorum seems prejudiced against gays...he might seem very caring and accepting to a gay individual he knew.

So...Traynham might be too-close to Santorum to offer an objective view on how Santorum feels about gay people in general.

  21. @CHAZMADER Principles? Rick 'Fecal' Santorum has principles when it comes to telling others how to live their lives, but his "principles" fly out the window when he is defending a scumbag like John Ensign who is involved with a highly unethical extra-marital affair. Where are his principles when it comes to accepting high-paying jobs upon leaving the Senate from groups for whom he passed legislation -- some of it even "earmark" legislation. It's really "pay-for-play" and Santorum is hip-deep into it. If he is an example of someone living-up to principles, I want no part of that. The poor delusional black man defending him needs some intervention.

  24. Wow. Just... wow. I'm absolutely appalled. Et tu, Mr. Traynham?

  25. This guy is just awful, dumb as a box of rocks and fighting for those that would deny him basic rights.
