Scott Lively Says Gay Rainbow Flag a Sign of the End Times: VIDEO

Pastor Scott Lively delivered a sermon called "The Global Threat of Homosexuality" at Resurrection Life of Jesus church in Sacramento recently that warned that the Gay Pride flag is a sign that society is on the verge of collapse, Right Wing Watch reports.

Said Lively:

When you see the gay pride parade going down the street in the major cities, what banner are they flying over them? They're flying the banner of the rainbow. What is the rainbow? The rainbow is God's covenant with man never to destoroy the Earth by water again ...

...In fifty years we have seen this tiny group of people - they really only represent about two percent of the population - that has grown from being a reviled subculture to now having more power in the legislatures and courtrooms of the world than the Christian church does. In fifty years! Nothing has ever grown that fast globally, nothing. Not Islam, not Darwinism, not Marxism, nothing has ever grown that fast. Which shows you that this is a spiritual phenomenon that is unparallelled and that's why God has selected it, singled out this particular behavior to be the indicator of extreme apostasy, the furthest edge of deviance and the warning sign that things are in really, really bad shape.

  1. It's crap like this that confirms that Christianity is an abomination.

  2. Perhaps gay influence has increased so much in the past 50 years because God is pissed that a segment of his designed creation is so marginalized. Either God made us this way or he made us with the ability to chose, so either way we must be part of God's design. Why are we to be condemned for being what God made us?

People like this a-hole make me glad I'm an atheist.

  3. and Mauve? Really? The color of the wall and the badly upholstered cross behind him are a clear indication that the man has never actually met a homosexual. He certainly seems to know what we are all about despite never speaking with any of us.

  4. Wait... if the Rainbow flag is a sign of the end times, and the end times are exactly what these fundamentalist christians are praying for...

Then why isn't Scott Lively thanking gay people for the good new?

  5. This is the sort of clutching at straws that's been the hallmark of American style evangelical thinking for decades.

  6. There's that "2%" thing again. Sorry, that's right-wing revisionism. Kinsey was correct. Proportionally, we are about 8-10% of the population, and I suspect it's even more if one were to remove the stigma that the dominant culture places upon same-sex love. However, Mr. Lively(?) does misinterpret the actual "sin" of Sodom. It was the rudeness the inhospitable behavior of the people towards the Messengers (a major cultural faux pas in desert cultures) that garnered Sodom the so-called wrath of the Hebrew god. Mr. Lively never seems to mention the horrible sins christianity has committed over the millennium, but I digress.

  7. I'm trying to follow the logic...
the rainbow is a symbol of god's covenant with man to never destroy the earth by water again... ok that is the myth.
So when Noah and his boatload saw the rainbow they probably rejoiced at the end their tribulations.
Today, when myth believers see a rainbow shouldn't they rejoice that their tribulations are over?

ummm.... I don't remember a rainbow in the Sodom story...
and isn't Isaiah about the Jews in Babylon... looking for the rainbow passage there...

then there is that Jesus guy, "he who is without blemish cast the first stone"....

  8. Rainbows are a sign of the apocalypse?!- I thought the Rapture would have taken these lovely people to another world by now.

  9. I feel like sending him a series of rainbow flags in an envelope with scary, end times-y warnings. Jesus was about love, not fear.

  10. Lil Kiwi be careful what you wish for. Pastors may deliver the truth in an unloving way but it is still the truth. I'm content with the idea that according to your definitions of bigot or heterosexualist i am one. With that in mind, when you know absolute Truth you will develop a fear of God.
