Three Lesbians Beat A Gay Man: Hate Crime?

4383208111_cd3362c1c4Here's what happened. A Caucasian gay dude in Boston was either entering or departing the Forest Hills T station. In the stairwell he bumped into, or was bumped into by, three African American lesbians. The ladies allege he said something racist to them; he alleges they used homophobic slurs against him. In any event, a scuffle ensued, and the man was severely beaten and left with a broken nose. He called the police. The ladies were arrested. The man claims he's the victim of a hate crime.

From The Boston Herald:

“My guess is that no sane jury would convict them under those circumstances, but what this really demonstrates is the idiocy of the hate-crime legislation,” said civil liberties lawyer Harvey Silverglate. “If you beat someone up, you’re guilty of assault and battery of a human being. Period. The idea of trying to break down human beings into categories is doomed to failure.”

The ACLU disagrees:

“Someone who is Jewish can be anti-Semitic,” said ACLU staff attorney Sarah Wunsch. “The mere fact that someone is a member of the same class doesn’t mean they could not be motivated by hatred for their very own group.”

After their arrest, the three women, all of whom are in their late teens or early 20's, were released on bails ranging from $100 - $500 -- low sums which, according to defense attorney C. Harold Krasnow, indicates the that the prosecution's case is "weak."

  2. I don't care whether it's a hate crime or not. The women attacked him. The women should be punished. I don't care whether they are lesbians or leeches.

  3. In MA it doesn't matter if you're white, black, blue, red or green. Assaulting and robbing someone regardless if they called you a name or not, is a CRIME.

  4. Boston's subway is generally very busy, heavily used. I know this station quite well. In all likelihood the 3 young women were moving slowly [passive-aggressively] on the stairs, he brushed by them, they took offense, and a fight occurred.

BTW the pic is VERY dated. That old EL station was torn down in I think 1986-87! It's underground today.

  6. A straight person says "fag" or any other offensive term and it's called a hate crime. But a gay or lesbian says the same thing it isn't. Someone please explain!

  7. A college professor friend of mine shared when she was in the military and closeted--she would periodically get drunk and "fag bash" gay men. When I met her, this was part of her past, but she then realized she was doing this because of not being able to accept her own sexuality at that time.

  8. In my opinion the whole concept of a "hate" crime is rubbish. If someone assaults me because i'm gay, Irish, white, old or whatever, I have been assaulted and they should be prosecuted. Who cares why these three lesbian thugs beat the man. They beat him and should be punished.

  9. I too used to think that the idea of hate crimes was stupid. But if you're the victim of violent, egregious crime and are hatefully insulted while being assaulted, your attitude changes. Vengeance can be a strong remedy when you suffer, say, blunt force head trauma and nearly a destroyed windpipe.

    But we will endure.

  10. Good god men, please learn to defend yourselves and quit being perpetual victims. He should have just gone home to hide in humiliation instead of drawing attention to his short comings. Guarantee even against 3, I could do some damage...

  11. Do people not understand that the reason hate crimes laws exist is because people who are subject to being a victim of a hate crime (victimized solely because they belong to a minority group) have not received fair treatment due by the police, the justice system, etc

Yes, anyone who assaults anyone SHOULD be tried and convicted to the fullest extent of the law.

But we KNOW that frequently gay people who are victimized DON'T get equal treatment in a court of law and gay-bashers frequently go free or have a lesser sentence.

If a man randomly beats an old woman, no jury is going to say she deserved it because she was old or that she shouldn't have been out at night because she's old, etc.

But PLENTY of courts/juries have allowed gay-bashers to get off because the victim was gay and thereby "provoked" their own attack by flaunting their open homosexuality.

All things are not equal, there is no level playing field when it comes to the law and how gays and lesbians are treated.

It's a fantasy to think otherwise.

These seems like an isolated incident to me. Unless there is proof that gangs of lesbians are running about attacking lone gay men, I don't see why this can't be treated as what it is.

An assault on a gay man but a group of lesbians that may or may not have other overtones but isn't part of some pattern of gay bashing.

This case has nothing to do with hate crimes laws.

  12. Lets face it: Just as many gay men posses all of the worst stereotypical qualities of women (cattiness, vanity, etc.) many lesbians posses all the worst qualities of straight men (hyper-aggressive, insensitive, etc.) These dykes are hyper aggressive skanks and enemy number one for femm. gay guys. I hope these bitches go down - HARD - and for a hate crime
