Dorothy Bond, Tennessee Principal Who Told Gay Students They'll 'Go To Hell', Resigns

D_bond

Yesterday I posted about Dorothy Bond, the Haywood High School principal who told gay students they'll "go to hell", threatened them with expulsion for any displays of same-sex affection, and demanded students pray.

The story caused outrage. Bond has now resigned:

A statement released by the Haywood County School Board’s law firm, Purcell, Sellers & Craig Inc., said Principal Dorothy Bond tendered her resignation Thursday.

“The Haywood County Board of Education acknowledges its student body’s right to free speech,” the board said in the statement. “Further, the Haywood County Board of Education strives to provide an atmosphere of tolerance and diversity while maintaining high academic standards.”

  1. You can't force students to pray in a public school. What was she thinking? And you can't threaten students based on their perceived sexual orientation.

That woman is not qualified to be a public school principal. She's a disgrace to the profession.

  2. At the very least, the students there are beyond the reach of that Christian, and she cannot corrupt or torment them anymore.

  3. I feel sorry for her in that she has so much hatred and anger in her soul. I hope that some day she finds the love for all human beings within her and that love is a much stronger power than fear and hate.

  4. Just imagine a high school principal in 2012 in the USA who would attempt to destroy the souls of young gay people with the ancient primitive myth of a hell. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

  5. God bless the ACLU. We should each send them 20 bucks. They did the same thing for another principal in the South about 6 months ago.

Posted right with a gay kiss from two soccer players. The pace of change is dizzying.

  6. It's hard to believe that so much bigotry and hate exists in the name of religion...sad indeed

  7. When will these bigotry learn to keep their bigotery to themselves. She should have nothing to do with children the old witch

  8. She'll say she's backed by her God! Thank god they gave her the boot! What ever reason they did, but they did it.

  9. "Let them know the wicked witch is dead!"

Please cue the trumpet players, and the munchkins.

Can you say... PHENOMENAL! Hate, bigotry, and intolerance has no place in the public school system. Let's shoot for love, acceptance, tolerance, and diversity.

Good response by the law firm, way to cover your ass... better late then never.

I'm a lover, not a fighter (and a damn good lover at that. :P)

  10. her homophobia in no way excuses any racist comment posted here about her. i often complain that, given the historical record, black americans and particularly black churches should be be our allies not our adversaries because we've both been targets of bigotry, and criticize them harshly for opposing same-sex marriage. And i have little patience for the uber Politically Correct scolds who read racism into every post on this blog.

Well nice work Kyle et al in making their point for them, in the most dismal and disheartening way.

  12. This coming from a BLACK woman whose past generations where enslaved? And by the word of her bible...

It is disappointing when Jews, blacks and other groups who have been persecuted just don’t get it - once they get their freedom. It proves that humanity is a sad existence.
