Serbian Extremist Who Warned 'Blood Will Flow' at Gay Pride Sentenced to 10 Months in Prison

Obradovic

Back in 2009, before a Gay Pride parade in Belgrade that was eventually canceled, I reported on threatening graffiti that was posted around the city threatening violence if it was held.

BelgradeMladen Obradović, the leader of the group Obraz, which was behind the graffiti, was sentenced to 10 months in jail for those threats today:

The Court found Obradović guilty of committing the criminal act of inciting hatred by issuing statements in the media, and writing slogans and graffiti containing threatening messages against homosexuals.

They included, "We're waiting for you", "Death to fagots", "Blood will flow, there will be no gay parade in Belgrade".

Obradović is entitled to lodge an appeal to the Court of Appeals in Belgrade within 15 days from receiving the verdict.  In 2011, Obradović was sentenced by the Higher Court in Belgrade to two years of prison for organizing riots during the 2010 Pride parade, to which he has a right to enter a plea.

Obradović remained defiant after the sentencing, saying the group would continue to use the threat "we're waiting for you" (see inset image) as warning regarding future gay events .

  1. "Death to faggots"? Sounds familiar. Oh yeah, it's taken from the Bible. So, is citing from the Bible a crime?

  2. It's certainly no crime to cite from an old work of fiction about invisible friends, Borut. it is a crime to threaten the lives of actual living human beings.

Could be that your pal Mladen will make some new friends in jail though - they're waiting for him there.

  3. That little skinny runt is the leader of an extremist Eastern-European hate group? Hahahaha! I was expecting somebody, I don't know, more menacing.

You could knock that guy over with a fly swatter.

  4. as the bible in no way says "death to faggots" it's not citing the bible.

    duh.

  7. Isn't Serbia sort of the toilet off to the left of the Russian vestibule? At least they're trying to flush their t*rds.

  8. There is something particularly brutal and primitive about slavs. And none are worse than the insular, self-centered Serbs. Ugh!

  9. Borut, reciting from Mein Kampf isn't very different. So if you must recite from your book of fiction, your bible, be my guest. But I think a very good argument can be made that it could be a crime.

  10. Note that this creep and his minions are wearing the symbols of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Hate breeds hate.

  12. @DANCOBBB
Re your first comment - did you read that in Mein Kampf?

    @LITTLEKIWI
"It's disgusting for men to have sex with one another, and those who do will be put to death, just as they deserve." (Leviticus 20:13)

Now spin that any way you want to!

    Posted by: borut | Mar 27, 2012 4:35:18 PM

  13. no spin needed - Levitical laws are ignored by all Christians as, theologically speaking, Christ's sacrifice saved us all from Levitical law.

that's why you're allowed to eat shellfish, mix meats and dairy, wear mixed fabrics, cut your hair at the temples and we no longer stone women to death for disobeying their manly masters.

    duh.

for you to cite levitical law while ignoring all other levitical laws negates any power you think that passage holds. sorry, sugar.

not to mention that the quote you pasted was, obviously, taken from some "translated for simple-minded bigots" bible.

"have sex" is a 20th century term.

your kind always proves the rest of us right, you don't know what you're talking about.

  14. @Borut,
“It does not do to dwell on dreams, Harry, and forget to live.” — Prof. Dumbledore in 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'

See! We can quote from works of fiction too.

  15. @LITTLEKIWI
It's always fun watching someone bending over backward trying to bring Christian religion in sync with modern secular thought.

Well, it's a funny God if he lets so many of his people think that sex between two men is an abomination even two thousand years after that supposedly changed. And he even let the Apostle Paul believe that.

I'm sure you read the Old Testament in Ancient Hebrew. 'Cause you're not simple-minded.

    @URMENSCH
You should probably dedicate that quote to LITTLEKIWI, since he keeps fantasizing that the God described in the Bible loves homosexuals.

And by the way, I'm an atheist and in my first post I simply asked a question. But so many people here just had their usual overheated knee-jerk reaction to it.

  16. @Borut,
Then I apologise for my misunderstanding.

However I think you'll have to recognise that your comments were somewhat ambiguous and seemed like the tack someone who supports the Biblical idea on homosexuals being abominations would take.

It wasn't citing the Bible that was his crime but threatening violence and inciting hatred.

    Posted by: Urmensch | Mar 27, 2012 7:57:19 PM

  17. BORUT - citing from the Bible is not a crime, it's merely irrelevant to the modern secular world which is where the concious and conscientious people live, us for instance, plus a whole lot more, mostly liberal Western people. To my mind even the remotest credance given to a Serbian hate monger is crossing the line. Go home. If it's dark you can follow the slime.

  18. Boy to the right of pic, with the trendy hair and artfully shaped goatee... and the clutch of "Gay softball team" (lovely Anastasia!)over his right shoulder.... they all should be working for BelAmi - or are they already?

  19. These Serbian extremists are out of step with the new Serbia. They were convicted of inciting hatred by making threats in the media and writing hateful graffiti. The image of the new Serbia is Novak Djokovic, presently the world's greatest tennis player and 2011 Wimbledon champion. He is a very charismatic young man who is adored by most Serbians. The old image of Serbia was Slobodan Milosevic who died in prison in 2006 while on trial at the Hague for war crimes. Lets give three cheers for the new Serbia and welcome them into the progressive western fold.

  20. @Urmensch
I think homosexual sex is ok and I'm also convinced that the Bible strongly condemns it. There's no contradiction in this, but it is confusing especially to those who keep spinning the Bible in order to reconcile its teachings with their sexual orientation.

    Posted by: borut | Mar 28, 2012 4:04:23 AM

  21. Littlekiwi,I know that like Benedict you believe that you are infallible. However, the bible is the enemy of human progress. In Leviticus Chapter 20 verse 13 in the New American Bible for Catholics (the largest Christian denomination in the USA and in the world)it clearly says: " If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives".It couldn't be clearer and even though Jesus is never quoted as saying anything about this specific law; he clearly said that not oe jot or part of a law would be changed. He was a first century observant Jew who accepted the whole Law and the Prophets.

  22. Hey ENDO: are you the TAOISEACH posting on this site? That will only mean something to ENDO, if he is an IRISHMAN.

  23. Perkin: are you anti gay? Your comment certainly sounds like you are. When you want to criticize these extremists, you suggest that they may be working for Belami, a gay website. Whats with you???????????

  24. @jamal49 - The gang is NOT wearing the symbol of the Serbian Orthodox Church. That can be seen at this location:

  25. Jack is right about Obradović being out of step with the new Serbia.

Most of the comments on B92 are against him (admittedly it's a liberal site, but there are often anti-gay comments).

Yesterday the President of Serbia got a North South prize from the Council of Europe for his work towards integration in the Balkans and Europe. Serbia is changing.

And the chi rho X P plus alpha and omega is an old Christian symbol, not specifically Orthodox or Serbian.
