Colorado State Football Players Used Homophobic Slurs Before Brutal Assault on Freshman Students: VIDEO

Assault

Although it only mentions "obscenities" in its broadcast report, anti-gay slurs were used by a group of Colorado State University football players on Friday before they brutally beat a group of freshman students following a late night party, according to 9News:

PlayersHaley and Gocha, 20, spoke to the Coloradoan and 9NEWS on Sunday at Corbett Hall.

They say they were leaving a party at LaPorte and Shields about midnight on Friday when an SUV loaded with fellow students drove past, its occupants yelling homophobic insults. When Gocha responded with the same insult, the SUV screeched to a halt and several men piled out, Haley said.

"You could just tell they were looking for a fight," Haley said. "They just started beating the back of Donny's head in."

  1. Nice way to lose your scholarships, morons.

  2. 3 scholarships thrown away. Couldn't happen to nicer assholes.

  3. They better kick those pr*cks out.

You're here on a football scholarship? Tough sh*t.

And WTF? Capi and Orakpo were involved in a STABBING incident before this? If they were the assailants in that incident and they're still in school there's something seriously wrong at CSU.

  4. Unfortunately it depends on how badly they want the players. Colleges don't automatically kick football players out for beating the crap out a freshman.

  5. They will be prosecuted for assault by the DA? Always the same thing with these stories; the school will take care of the 'problem', maybe they'll be suspended, etc. Where and when did the idea that schools are sovereign entities unto themselves regarding criminal behavior? They should be prosecuted in a court of law for assault at the very least. Maybe throw in a civil suit[s] for good measure.

And yeah, if you're convicted of such a crime, especially if you have multiple offenses, of course you should be kicked off the team, have any scholarship the school and authorities have control over revoked, and ideally kicked out of school.

  6. Why doesn't anyone ever talk about steriods in football? So much of the media's and Congress' time has been spent investigating steriods in baseball, but in that same time, I've never once heard about the evils of steriods in football. Look at these guys and tell me they're all clean. I know I'm assuming. Sue me. What is the deal with our society's messed up love affair with football and football players? Seems like a pretty violent sport to begin with, then you get kids juiced up on 'roids and stuff like this is bound to happen. And why are so many jocks and sports fans so homophobic?

  7. I don't think they'll be let off so easily this time. These are the post-Sandusky days and when an incident like this reaches national status, heads will roll.

  8. Andy, please keep us updated on this story. I would hate for these punks to get off scott free. Love Love Love your blog, and hope you had a GREAT holiday weekend. Stephen

  9. HOW many similar incidents are there in this area in Colorado? Like, WTH? Just a month ago, if you all remember, a lesbian female was bashed by collegiate athletes in this very area, and then a few months ago several people, gay and straight, were bashed by Colorado State athletes, I believe also football players. Such an anti-gay area, not surprising since it's right around where FOF operates.

Anyway, this type of stuff, it's easy to say this is an athlete thing, but it's not. These men are animals, and this is savage behavior. These three guys have some severe problems. Obviously, Orakpo and Capi especially, having been involved in a stabbing incident literally a few days prior, have some serious anger issues that need to be checked. The fact they weren't suspended on the basis of the stabbing incident is ridiculous in itself and shows there is a serious cultural problem in CSU.

  11. there is a world of parents who are failing their sons by raising them to be unthinking, unfeeling, compassionless neanderthals.

    Posted by: LittleKiwi | Apr 9, 2012 1:36:09 PM

  12. The parents must be so so proud! They need to be kicked out of school. Most universities tolerate these kind of animals on the campus, I hope the students of CSU protest against the school, Universities HATE bad publicity.

  13. @Littlekiwi
I have been wishing to say this sometime: I couldn't agree with you more. You are right on the mark.

  14. Did anyone notice the fight started when they returned the gay slur? These 'victims' deserved to be beaten. All parties in this story are scum.

    Posted by: H8Str8s | Apr 9, 2012 2:11:36 PM

  15. It's already been said.

Mike makes an interesting point about steroids. Nothing like good old alcohol with a testosterone boost mixer.

I mostly logged on the comments to ask Andy to keep his readers up-to-date on the follow-up, but several of you have already requested this.

I'm afraid the University athletic department will issue a politically- correct statement and that no significant example will be made of the perpetrators.

  16. The quote that makes me do a Scooby Doo double take is from the individual representing the college:

"...very serious consequences IF it turns out that this did in fact happen..."

What at all has pointed to this incident "not happening"?!? There's photographic proof that the students were injured. Members of the school's football team have confirmed that it was three of their teammates who committed the assault. The school's suspension of the three players clearly indicates that they know the men carried out the assault.

    Anyone?

  17. Everyone ignore the obvious troll H8STR8S, and keep this thread on topic.

  18. @Jonathan, some people never take off their Denial Glasses. look at all the people insisting that Zimmerman murdering Trayvon wasn't in any way racially motivated, despite the FACT that Zimmerman refers to Martin as an "F-ing c**n" on the audiotape.

    Posted by: LittleKiwi | Apr 9, 2012 2:32:27 PM

  19. H8strs: You are a bomb thrower ("these victims deserved to be beaten") who adds little to a reasoned discussion of the important issues of the day. But I suspect that you already know that.

    Posted by: jack | Apr 9, 2012 2:33:51 PM

  20. Homophobes are homophobes. You use a slur, you are a homophobe. I like to see homophobes beaten.

    Posted by: H8Str8s | Apr 9, 2012 2:47:41 PM

  21. @jack
If you were not so insecure in your position you would not consider me a bomb throwing troll. Why is anyone who disagrees with you a troll? Don't you believe there can be sincere opposition to your position? Obviously I do add a lot to the discussion or people would not agree with me and there are always a few who do. I am a member of this community and whether you like it or not, the community is not monolithic in its thinking. It would be nice if it were, perhaps to some, but it isn't. Trying to silence the opposition is always a bad idea.

  22. I'm afraid I simply don't understand what any Athletics Dept has to do with the criminal offence of Common Assault or Aggravated Assault or Assault Causing Actual or Grievous bodily harm.

I understood that all of these were crimes under the Criminal Law.
Since when did an Athletics Dept become an investigating or prosecuting authority ?

    Posted by: JackFknTwist | Apr 9, 2012 3:19:18 PM

  23. @ MIKE :
    You make the best point.
It is beyond any shadow of a doubt that ALL these Neanderthals are juiced up roid queens.
And their anti-gay rage is part of their macho ethos.......and encouraged by their masters.

And still there is no mandatory continual testing programme with expulsion as the only option for users.

  24. "nordly"???

    Posted by: gomez | Apr 9, 2012 3:33:27 PM

  25. @Jack: The athletics department of any big sports school IS the authority. You saw how well it worked at Penn State.

Sports = Alumni = Money = More Sports. Academics and honor don't fit anywhere in that model.

I predict these three will have to sit-out spring scrimmages, but will be back on the team for summer practice.
