  2. The interesting bit is that the cranes on the roof have to lift each other up after every story gets built.

  3. These super tall skyscrapers s*ck to work in. And they're generally white elephants. Even the old WTC was a white elephant. Aside from politics and the bling factor, I'm not sure why they're still being built. They could have built high density lower rise skyscrapers on the WTC location and topped it off with a super tall communications tower like the CN in Toronto for a lot less $.

  7. Poor RAT - I love tall and spectacular buildings, architecture is the summit of human achievement (one of them) and the men who work on them love them too, and get paid well, unless they work in Dubai.

  8. its a pretty boring building if you ask me. NY is just full of dull buildings now IMO. But then again I thought the original towers were an eyesore.

  10. Because, Ratbastard, in America we need big, penis-shaped buildings to prove we're manly and strong, regardless of whether or not it makes sense economically.

  12. I saw the building last December and it was beautiful. I originally did not like the twin towers, but as I began to better appreciate modernist architecture, I grew to love them.

    If you really want penis-shaped, check out Seattle's Municipal Tower (formerly the AT&T building), glans and all. http://www.seattlemunicipaltower.com/home.axis

    ============

    @Jim,

    I hear you, but this is a plague that's spread all over the world. Up until the late 90s the U.S. had most of the world's tallest skyscrapers, now the U.S. isn't even on the top 10 list.
